What Is Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald?
At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
Warner Brothers has released its final trailer for the highly anticipated Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. We can thank Ezra Miller for this pleasant surprise as he made it clear he was the one who wanted to release the video. If you don’t understand what I mean, watch the trailer for yourself.
The trailer kicks off with information we’ve known from the get-go. Jude Law’s Dumbledore is recruiting Newt Scamander to take down Grindelwald. As the trailer goes on a surprising reveal for Potterheads happens. We get a look at a woman in a circus who then turns into a snake, and not just any snake, it’s Nagini.
The sequel to Fantastic Beasts will feature Voldemort’s final Horcrux, portrayed by actress Claudia Kim. It’s unclear how the snake will factor into the film, but she seems to be involved in the circus that Ezra Miller’s appears in.
We also get a good look at Newt’s brother Theseus Scamander, as played by Callum Turner. He’s set to play a crucial role in the film alongside co-star Eddie Redmayne. Their relationship is a contentious one, as the tag of the trailer involved Newt capturing his brother much to his chagrin.
Are you excited to see Nagini in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald? Let us know in the comments below!

The Goosebumps franchise returns with one last trailer for its second movie Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween. Jack Black returns to reprise his role as quirky children’s author R.L. Stine in a film chockfull of things that go bump in the night, including a creepy ventriloquist dummy. Goosebumps 2 is set to premiere in theaters on October 12, 2018.
About Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween
Official Description: Halloween comes to life in a brand-new comedy adventure based on R.L. Stine’s 400-million-selling series of books.
The film is directed by Ari Sandel, written by Rob Lieber, and produced by Deborah Forte and Neal H. Moritz. Jeremy Ray Taylor is one of the kid stars here and if he looks familiar it’s because he’s also the star of another horror film, It (2017) and he also played a bully in the first Ant-Man from Marvel. Wendi McLendon-Covey might look familiar to fans of The Goldbergs, she’s the mom and uses her extensive comedic talents to play Taylor’s mom. Madison Iseman plays Taylor’s sister after coming off of the hit Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Wendi McLendon-Covey as Kathy Quinn
Madison Iseman as Sarah Quinn
Jeremy Ray Taylor as Sonny Quinn
Caleel Harris as Sam Carter
Chris Parnell as Walter
Ken Jeong as Mr. Chu
Jack Black as R. L. Stine
Avery Lee Jones as the voice of Slappy the Dummy (previously voiced by Jack Black)
Up until now the Goosebumps 2 trailers kept Jack Black’s involvement out. It was highly unlikely that Black wouldn’t appear, but it was still fun for there to be a bit of mystery around it. However, this is the business of selling tickets, and Sony knows they’ll sell a few more if people are assured Black will appear. This short but sweet trailer confirms that Black’s R.L. Stine is back in the film version of R.L. Stine’s books about one of R.L. Stine’s books running amok.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee the Autobot seeks refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. Charlie, on the brink of turning 18 years old and trying to find her place in the world, soon discovers the battle-scarred and broken Bumblebee. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns that this is no ordinary yellow Volkswagen.
Directed by Travis Knight (Kubo And The Two Strings), Bumblebee stars Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena. The film will land in cinemas on December 26, 2018!
Warner Brothers has just confirmed their first DC release of 2020. The Wrap has confirmed that Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey film is set to hit theaters February 7, 2020.
The film will see Robbie’s Harley Quinn team up with Black Canary, Huntress, and Renne Montoya. The plot will center around the group attempting to rescue Cassandra Cain from the main antagonist of the film, Black Mask.
Auditions for Birds of Prey are still underway, although, this past week The Hollywood Reporter released a list of names that were testing for parts in the film. Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane) and Cristin Milioti (Black Mirror) are all up for the role of Huntress. Justina Machado (Jane the Virgin) and Roberta Colindrez (Vida) tested for Renne Montoya.
For the role of Black Canary, the studio is attempting to diverge from the comic iteration. WB is looking for diverse talent for the character, bringing in Gugu Mbatha-Raw (A Wrinkle in Time) and Jurnee Smolett-Bell (Underground) to read for the part.
Cathy Yan, best known for her film Dead Pigs, is set to direct the female-centric film. Robbie is also attached as a producer and has been heavily involved in the development of the film.
Robbie had this to say about the project:
“Actually, the ones that excite me most don’t have superpowers at all but they have, you know, pretty great backstories and all could kind of live in the world with Harley and create this cool dynamic. Because I don’t think girl groups… I mean all my girlfriends, we’re a huge girl gang and we’re not all the same person, everyone’s very different. I guess I was really trying to put that on screen — the way we exist in everyday life as a big girl gang. Why can’t we watch that in films more?”

Signature Tracks creates the sounds behind reality TV likeKeeping up with the Kardashians, The Bachelor, and The Price Is Right but they’ve also helped make Unfriended sound creepy and usher in the era of “screenlife” movies.
Monkeys Fighting Robots sat down with composers Russell Howard, David Lasman, and Adam Malka to discuss making music for both fiction and non-fiction, including the new Mario Van Peebles movie Armed starring William Fichtner, Ryan Guzman, and Columbus Short.
Talking Armed
Armed is about a former U.S. Marshall struggling to put his life together after a case gone wrong. A former colleague reappears in his life and explains all of the survivors of the man’s unit are suffering the same symptoms and that there may be a larger conspiracy at hand. The music is made up of an interesting blend of things:
What’s the music like for the action film? “It’s some hip-hop mixed in with real ethereal stuff like Lana Del Rey meets James Bond.”
In a sort of throwback to many 90s movie soundtracks “The film has about 10 songs we created for it plus we wrote the underscore.”
Included in the tracklist “Mario’s son is a rapper, and we did some songs with him. Those songs will be coming out on Spotify.”
Every film and director is different “We were able to get really creative with the songs we presented him [Mario Van Peebles]. We were able to think outside of the box. For instance, we were able to do a remake of House of the Rising Song which is just, like a thrasher version of it. It’s really bonkers. But it’s really amazing.”
More about Peebles process “Mario has a really great ear and really knows what he wants. We’d sit down with Mario, and he’d explain what he’d want, and we’d make it happen.”
About Signature Tracks
Signature Tracks is a collective of music-makers “We have about 30 composers. Russell oversees them. We all kind of work on projects together, pulling ideas from all over.”
Attention to detail “The music we create is the kind of stuff that can be on the radio. That’s the kind of quality we like to bring to projects like this.”
Fiction vs. Reality
What is the challenge to creating reality TV music? “It’s interesting because reality and unscripted is extremely demanding. Our skillset has to be so incredibly tight. Russell sometimes composes hundreds of different cues for a particular series in ten different genres. Everything from comedy to tension to writing full songs. We’re really well versed in translating our skills into various mediums.”
Superheroes
Signature Tracks is currently busy making the music for a series of hour-long docs that comic book fans will be interested in hearing about “We’re working on a really cool project right now with DC comics. It’s a documentary about Aquaman and one other character. We did some really cool stuff with the music.”
What’s the music for these docs going to sound like? “We’ve been heavily influenced by the music from the Dark Knight but also bringing in a lot of 2018 sounds, really cool electronica used with orchestral sounds.” The musical collective was free to do their separate, seperate from the upcoming Aquaman movie.
Spreading the love across their industry “There are so many great composers and musicians making music for film and TV today. Atticus Ross, No ID … there’s so much diversity with non-traditional sort of musicians coming into the mix of composing. We love it. We strive to have that same kind of rich diversity.”
Thanks to Signature Tracks and Impact24 PR for making this interview possible.
Gary Kurtz made history with George Lucas, producing hit films like American Graffiti, Star Wars: A New Hope, and Empire Strikes Back. Kurtz sadly passed away at the age of 78 on Sunday from cancer.

Playing a major role in the success of the Star Wars franchise, helping bring the first two films of the original trilogy to life on the big screen. Replaced as the producer for Return of the Jedi, Lucas and Kurtz parted ways due to creative differences.
“The toy business began to drive the [Lucasfilm] empire,” Gary Kurtz stated in a 2010 interview with the Los Angeles Times. “It’s a shame. They make three times as much on toys as they do on films. It’s natural to make decisions that protect the toy business, but that’s not the best thing for making quality films.”
After leaving Lucasfilm, Kurtz went on to produce iconic films like The Dark Crystal (1982) and Return to Oz (1985). In 1989 he even got to work with Mark Hamill again, co-producing the sci-fi movie Slipstream.
His first gig in the film industry was a big one, showing off his talents and skills at a young age. Working as an assistant director for Ride in the Whirlwind (starring Jack Nicholson), Kurtz quickly made a name for himself. Not only was he a director and producer, but a camera operator too. Movies more than a job for Gary Kurtz, they were his passion. He’ll truly be missed.

The Kurtz family released a statement saying, “Gary was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, colleague, and mentor, whose work and talent spanned filmmaking, photography, music, and cinema history. He was a Marine, a world traveler, an outdoorsman, and a kind, compassionate human being. Gary was a magnificent man, who will be hugely missed. His whole family thanks you for your loving thoughts.”
Rest in peace Gary Kurtz and “May the Force be with you, always.”

Amazon’s upcoming film Beautiful Boy is based on the novel Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction by David Sheff, features a stellar cast and a first-time director. It all comes together for a well-received film that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and is set to premiere on October 12th, 2018.
About Beautiful Boy
Official Description: Based on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff, Beautiful Boy chronicles the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years.
Beautiful Boy sinks its teeth deep into the relationship between a father and son facing the monster that is addiction. Director Felix Van Groeningen is making his English-language debut here, and he’s got a lot of great stuff to work with. The novel hit the best-seller list, and the script adaptation comes from Groeningen and Luke Davies who himself wrote a novel on addiction.
Beautiful Boy features a cast that includes …
Steve Carell as David Sheff
Timothée Chalamet as Nic Sheff
Jack Dylan Grazer as 12-year-old Nic
Zachary Rifkin as eight-year-old Nic
Kue Lawrence as four and six-year-old Nic
Maura Tierney as Karen Barbour
Amy Ryan as Vicki Sheff
Kaitlyn Dever as Lauren
Andre Royo as Spencer
Timothy Hutton as Dr. Brown
LisaGay Hamilton as Rose
Amy Forsyth as Diane
Christian Convery as Jasper Sheff
Oakley Bull as Daisy Sheff
Stefanie Scott as Julia
Ricky Low as Destiny
Steve Carell is a phenomenal actor. His ability to go from comedy to drama and back again is not something most actors can do. This trailer, plus the reviews, seem to point to another stellar performance from Carell who I predict will eventually get an Oscar for a role sooner or later (he was nominated in 2014 for Foxcatcher). Timothée Chalamet continues the impressive career start that’s taken him from the TV show Homeland to Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.
