LAST DAYS

Marvel presents the First of Three New Series Banners For SECRET WARS!

New York, NY—January 21, 2015— The skies go dark and the world begins to fracture. Secret Wars is coming, and with it the destruction of the Marvel Universe as we know it. Today, Marvel is proud to announce LAST DAYS, the first of three different types of series taking place during the upcoming, highly anticipated Secret Wars!

“What would you do if you learned today was your last day on Earth?” says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. “That’s the question your favorite Marvel heroes are going to ask themselves in their LAST DAYS story lines as they brace for Secret Wars and the end of the Marvel Universe.”

Battleworld is set to transform the Marvel Universe as you know it. But before Secret Wars can begin, this chapter must come to a close. What will our heroes do with their final hours? What secrets will be unearthed? Who will they want to spend their LAST DAYS with?

“LAST DAYS is the first of three new brandings for series unique to Secret Wars,” says Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel. “Each branding will bear its own unique trade dress and logo treatment, clearly defining its relationship to the main Secret Wars story. This will make it easier for fans to experience the full scope of Secret Wars. Don’t dare miss these epic tales as our heroes face their impending obliteration!”

Before Secret Wars can begin, the Marvel Universe must end. And it all starts this May as the entire planet faces their LAST DAYS!

How we review comic books:

5.0 = A near-perfect comic; one of the year’s best. You’ll remember this issue for a long time.

4.0-4.9 = An excellent book that’s well worth your money. Has memorable moments, stunning art, and shows a real understanding of how comics work.

3.0-3.9 = A pretty good, middle-of-the-road comic. Maybe not worth your money unless you’re a big fan of the series/character.

2.0-2.9 = Meh, it’s fine. Below average. Not terrible, but ultimately forgettable.

1.0-1.9 = It’s bad. Maybe it has one or two redeeming qualities, but the bad very much outweighs the good. It’s not worth your time, let alone your money.

0.0-0.9 = A terrible, horrible, no good, very bad comic. Not worth your time, let alone your money. You probably shouldn’t bother reviewing the book if this is your score.

Michael E. Fromm is an all-around scrivener, writing screenplays (short and feature), short stories, novels, poetry, blogs, articles, and press releases. Since first learning to hold a pen, he has done little but read, watch, and write about characters and worlds of fantasy. It would be very difficult to find him without a pen in hand and an idea in mind, which is problematic for anyone wanting to have a conversation with him. Michael graduated from Rowan University, primarily focusing on improving his skills as a filmmaker and screenwriter. After said schooling, he joined an elite force of Rowan grads who also had the notion of becoming filmmakers. This group, known as Justice Productions, call on him every so often to write short films. And, until this whole writing thing pays off, Michael currently does development & marketing communication (writing, graphic & publication design, social media and website upkeep, etc.) for a web development company in Central New Jersey, where he currently resides.

Return of Darth Maul

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Darth Maul was resurected by the Clone Wars animated series in 2012.

Reunited, Darth Maul and Savage Opress travel back to Dathomir, where they are led by Mother Talzin to her village, where she removes Maul’s spider-like cybernetics and uses magicks to create new cybernetics, as well as restore Maul’s sanity. Once back to full health, Maul decides to wreak his revenge on the man who reduced him to his state: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

To bring him to them, Maul and Opress travel to a village on the planet Raydonia, slaughter the inhabitants and send a hologram message to the Jedi Temple, challenging Obi-Wan to come to them. Despite Mace Windu’s suggestion to send in a Jedi task force, Obi-Wan decides that he must go alone to rectify his mistake. But as Windu expresses his concerns about this undertaking, Yoda cryptically states that Obi-Wan will not be alone in this endeavor – and as he speaks, in a certain place on Tatooine, Asajj Ventress learns of a reward placed on the head of Savage Opress and goes off after him.

Obi-Wan travels to the Raydonian village and is quickly taken down by Maul and Opress, who take him aboard their hijacked freighter to be tortured to death. However, just before they take off, Ventress has landed on the planet, found their ship and hitched a ride. Appearing before the two brothers, she taunts them, making them abandon an unconscious Obi-Wan to search for her. Ventress returns to Obi-Wan, wakes him up and lends him one of her lightsabers for his defense when Maul and Opress return. The two team up in order to fight the brothers, but find themselves outmatched and just barely escape by jettisoning the ship’s cockpit, leaving Maul and Opress adrift. Despite this setback, however, Maul is content that the Jedi will yet come after him once more and that he will get his revenge after all.

This Privacy Policy does not cover any use of Personal Information or Sensitive Personal Information that a third party, an Advertiser or non-affiliated ad server may collect from you. We encourage you to investigate and ask questions directly of them in this regard.

Review: ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Andrew Garfield Owns The Character

Amazing Spider-Man 2 makes grown men remember why they love the character.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 is in theaters now and could be the best big budget comic book film to date. Yes, The Dark Knight is The Godfather of comic book films, but unlike Batman, Spider-Man inspires people and that’s exactly what Amazing Spider-Man 2 does. Director Marc Webb takes some core source material from the comics and does his best to make the film flow smoothly and respect the material at the same time.

The special and visual effects crew list below deserves 90% of the credit for why this Amazing Spider-Man 2 works. They recreated so many iconic scenes from the illustrated version of Spider-Man that to an ordinary person, seems impossible to turn into a live action film. Not to mention, the perfected visual form of Spider-Man is balanced out by the witty delivery of Andrew Garfield.

The scene from Amazing Spider-Man 2 that encompasses everything that Spider-Man is, happens in the first encounter with Electro, played by Jamie Foxx. Your friendly neighborhood web-slinger dons a firefighter helmet and hoses down Electro. The interaction with the firefighters is priceless. The film’s attention to detail on all the little things that make Peter Parker and Spider-Man are what makes Amazing Spider-Man 2 the best Spider-Man film ever.

Emma Stone is solid as Gwen Stacey and for most comic book fans, this is the first time we get to see the emotional bond between Peter and Gwen. Jamie Foxx has a difficult time playing the nerdy Max Dillon, but he owns Electro in the final battle. Dane DeHaan lucks out with a pleasant, non-forced reunion of Peter and Harry Osborn, but Harry’s transformation from good to evil does feel rushed. With all the characters running in and out of the film there was disappointment that Flash Thompson did not make a brief cameo.

News Talk Florida Questions Amazing Spider-Man #1

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Peter Parker is Peter Parker again, and Amazing Spider-Man #1 hits your local comic book store one-day before Amazing Spider-Man 2 launches in theaters. Everyone should rejoice because everything is back to normal…. right? That’s a big huge wrong! On page two Dan Slott embarks down another giant wormhole by re-writing the origin of Spider-Man. Allegedly another person was bitten by the radioactive spider as well! And guess what? It’s a female character, how conventionally original. Welcome back to the 90’s the land of frighteningly bad written comics and 101 symbiotes.

This review is from the Pop Culture section of News Talk Florida.

As far as judgement by a single issue, Slott does a good job recapping the Doc Ock chaos that is now Parker’s life. The jokes and free spirit are back, which are core character traits of Spider-Man and anyone that has read Amazing Spider-Man knows it’s just a matter of time before it all comes crashing down. There was a nod to Amazing Spider-Man 2 with a quick reference to Electro, he was without his traditional mask and blue.

Humberto Ramos is where he should be drawing Spider-Man even if Parker destroys his red and blue costume and ends up running around in web underwear for most of the issue. Ramos’s style works well conveying Slott’s jokes and action. The detail and emotions in a character’s face is what puts Ramos in the upper echelon of artists.

It’s mind-boggling the need to rewrite the past in comic books. Superior Spider-Man for all its faults was an attempt to create a new future. Marvel and DC need to do more of this and less of rebooting the past.

Story: 7.5/10 • Artwork: 8.5/10 • Overall 8/10
