Ben Affleck Discusses ‘The Batman’ & ‘Justice League’

Ben Affleck recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to promote his new movie Live By Night. While there the actor discussed his role as Batman in the DC Extended Universe, specifically reacting to the new image released this weekend. Affleck also offered an update on the upcoming solo Batman movie, confirming once again that he will direct, and he continues to work on the script.

“I’m going to direct the Next Batman. We’re working on it. It’s one of those things that’s really frustrating because like Live by Night took me a year-and-a-half to write it and get it ready. I work really hard. It’s just nobody gave a sh-t! Nobody was like, ‘Where’s Live by Night?!’ But with Batman, I keep on getting, ‘Where’s the f–cking Batman?!” And I”m like, ‘Whoa, I’m working! Give me a second.’”

Ben Affleck will next appear as Bruce Wayne in Justice League where he will star alongside Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ray Fisher as Cyborg. This is the first time the Justice League will be assembled on the big screen.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s (Henry Cavill) selfless act, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller)—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will land in theaters on November 16, 2017.

Gal Gadot Talks Ben Affleck’s Performance As Batman

If one thing’s for sure about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s that we got a great Batman performance from Ben Affleck.

Adding to the praise he’s gotten, co-star Gal Gadot praised Affleck’s portrayal of the Caped Crusader in a recent interview.

“I think that Ben is such a good actor. Very, very talented. I think the interpretation that they gave Batman in this movie they wanted him to be more weary, more tired of life, more cynical, more dark. I think that Ben captured it in such a sophisticated way. He’s one of my favorite Batmans, for sure – if not the best one.”

Ice Cube On Academy Voters, Show Business, And his new film ‘Fist Fight’

With Tampa being the center of the College Football World this week, actor/rapper Ice Cube took the opportunity to come into town and promote his new comedy, Fist Fight.

One of my favorite comments was when he touched on Academy voters, and whether or not they are going to be more open minded this year.

“You never know with these things. I know the Academy is trying to, diversify is the word and we will see. Whether a film gets awards or not doesn’t take away from the fact that they are great films by great directors and actors and people enjoy them. You know awards .. after that night.. you put it on the shelf and everyone forgets about it. But it’s really about the people.. if you give me an award in your heart.. then I earned it”

We also discussed his feelings on helping out others who are new in the “business”.

Ya .. You know I think talent needs a boost and always needs somebody that’s already in position to recognize that talent to bring them along. I think anybody who is in the entertainment business should be looking for young talent to bring along in some way.

Illuminated ‘Logan’ Photo Unveiled

The Logan director has released a brand new photo from the movie, via Twitter.

With only one trailer released, the marketing for this film has been absolutely stellar. We’re going to see the second and final trailer at some point in January.

“In the near future, an aging Wolverine and Professor X must protect a young female clone of Wolverine from an evil organization led by Nathanial Essex.”

Logan features Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, Donald Pierce, and Richard E. Grant. The film hits theaters on March 3.

Oscars 2017: Predicting Best Actor

The eventual Best Actor Oscar winner typically feels like a done deal months, sometimes weeks, before the ceremony. This year is no different, with a clear-cut favorite atop the heap of hopeful nominees. The rest of the field, however, feels more wide open than it has been in a few years.

Casey Affleck is the leader in the clubhouse for Best Actor. His understated performance in Manchester By the Sea is an absolute lock to get the nomination and the win. Done and dusted. Beyond Affleck, the closest thing to a lock is Denzel Washington, who’s mountainous turn in Fences deserves recognition. But, as far as acting awards for Fences, there is one woman who will take that home.

After getting close on a few roles in the last couple of years, Joel Edgerton will finally break through with his turn in Loving. That leaves two spots, and the hopefuls list decidedly less expansive than Best Actress. Tom Hanks is always in play when he delivers a performance like the one in Sully, but that movie is pretty well off the radar at this point. Andrew Garfield could easily grab one of the last two slots here, but would it be for Hacksaw Ridge or Silence? Most prognostications lean towards Hacksaw Ridge, and he is terrific in it, but I have a sneaking suspicion that his two great roles could split a vote or two.

That leaves the door open for Viggo Mortensen, and his dominating performance as the progressive patriarch in Captain Fantastic. He deserves recognition for a tough, unique role. Filling out the fifth slot, based mostly on the film’s momentum, is Ryan Gosling for La La Land. He probably doesn’t have much of a shot at winning, but given the dominance of the film he’s in, don’t entirely rule out an upset.

Cool Beer Brewing Co: Millennium Buzz Beer – A Millennial Review

The Cool Beer Brewing Company started in Brampton in 1997 but moved to Etobicoke in 2005. I won’t list all of the awards that Cool’s Millennium Buzz Beer, the beer I’m reviewing here, has won at both the provincial and national levels, I’ll just say that it has won in the North American Lager category fourteen times.

Millennium Buzz Beer is brewed with hemp as well as organic malted barley and German hops. Based on their video, the folks at Cool Beer seem to know their stuff. So, no matter what Hearst and DuPont say, I’m going to have a Millennium Buzz!

Cool Beer Brewing Company: Millennium Buzz Beer – First Sip

Millennium Buzz Beer pours a transparent amber colour with barely any foam. I get a faint whiff of caramel as I take my first sip. Millennium Buzz Beer has a sharp taste, herb-y rather than smooth. But, full-bodied as it is, this brew retains the thirst-quenching quality that some amber lagers lose. Millennium Buzz has relatively lazy bubbles that give it a velvety mouthfeel. This brew avoids falling flat because of its bittersweet flavour.

Cool Beer Brewing Company: Millennium Buzz Beer – Last Sip

Dark though it is, since it’s a good thirst-quencher Millennium Buzz is a great brew to enjoy in place of your usual beer. Switch out your regular suds for this tasty brew and enjoy it alongside whatever pub fare you enjoy most. This is also a great beer to enjoy with some chips and dip. Its easy-drinking quality and complex taste demand snacks.

At 5% ABV in 341-mL bottles, you should be able to have a few of these beers and still recall the last millennium, unless you were born in 1999. And, since Millennium Buzz Beer doesn’t have a strong aroma, you’re not committing any crimes by drinking this brew straight from the bottle.

New ‘Beauty And The Beast’ Poster Highlights Characters

Walt Disney Studios released a poster for its upcoming Beauty and the Beast.

The poster features the main cast, including Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as Beast.

At the top of the poster, Belle is holding the iconic rose. At the bottom, other characters from the film, such as Gaston and Lumière, appear.

Beauty and the Beast is a live-action retelling of the 1991 Disney-animated film.

During tonight’s Golden Globe Awards, Disney will release a special look at the movie.

In addition to Watson and Stevens, the movie stars Luke Evans, Kevin Kline, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Audra McDonald, Emma Thompson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Ian McKellen.

Bill Condon directs. Alan Menken composes.

Beauty and the Beast hits theaters March 17.

Black Oak Brewing Co: Nut Brown Ale – A Nutty Review

In the brewing game since 1999, Black Oak Brewing Company started out in Oakville but moved to Etobicoke nine years later. The Black Oak Brewing Company has an award-winning history. Among other honoured brews, Black Oak’s Nut Brown Ale, the beer I’m reviewing here, won Gold in the Brown Ale category at the 2013 Ontario Brewing Awards, Silver in the Dark Ale category at both the 2009 and 2012 Ontario Brewing Awards, People’s Choice at the 2011 Ontario Brewing Awards, and was named the Speaker’s Selection at the 2009 Ontario Legislature Awards. With a list of commendations this long, I feel honoured to be in its presence.

Now, if it please the brown ale, may I approach the pint glass?

Black Oak Brewing Company: Nut Brown Ale – First Sip

Nut Brown Ale pours a semi-transparent brown colour with about a 1/2 inch of tan foam at the top of my chilled pint glass. No surprise, I smell roasted nuts as I take my first sip. Nut Brown Ale’s smell goes well with its malty hazelnut flavour. Better than any roast you’re likely to have at Starbucks, this brew has a coffee porter-like quality. But, rather than the smooth and thick mouthfeel of a porter, this brown ale has a fizzy and watery mouthfeel.

Black Oak Brewing Company: Nut Brown Ale – Last Sip

Nut Brown Ale only achieves bitterness during the aftertaste. Not that this brew is sweet, but its nutty flavour highlights the malt rather than the hops. This is a great winter brew to have a few of. Nut Brown Ale is dark and nutty enough to provide that stick-to-your-ribs quality all good winter beers should have. But, it’s not so thick that it becomes undrinkable after having a couple. And, at 5% ABV in 473-mL cans, this brew doesn’t demand much of you alcoholically, so don’t feel restricted because of Nut Brown Ale’s complex taste.

Black Flash Will Appear On Multiple DC Television Shows

It’s been revealed via showrunner Andrew Kresiberg that Black Flash, who transformed from Zoom at the end of The Flash season 2, will appear in multiple DC television shows. Read his quote on the matter below, via Entertainment Weekly.

“You might be seeing him on multiple shows. He will [be] the classic comic book Grim Reaper aspect. It’s just going to be on multiple shows. He’s a classic character and we have storylines on multiple shows that fit having him return. There’s something so scary about him, even scarier than when he was just a man because now he is the Grim Reaper, he is like the Devil. How do you stop the Devil? It presents an interesting challenge for the heroes of the respective shows in which he appears.”

The outlet then asked Kreisberg if Teddy Sears will be back to reprise the role, with him responding:

“I’m not sure, Teddy is pretty busy with [24: Legacy].”

The League Assembles In Awesome New ‘Justice League’ Image

USA Today has revealed an awesome new look at the Justice League assembled in Zack Snyder’s follow-up to Batman v Superman. The high-quality image shows Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) standing side by side with the fastest man alive The Flash (Ezra Miller), the King of the Ocean Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and the Half man Half machine Cyborg (Ray Fisher).

This is possibly our best look yet at the Justice League assembled on the big screen. Of course, Henry Cavill’s Superman is still missing from any marketing but worry not, the character will return to fight alongside these legendary heroes. One thing to note is The Flash’s head armor. Clearly, the hero has faced a tough adversary as made clar by the crack on the hero’s headpiece, proving once and for all that even the fastest man alive needs protection.

With Superman (Henry Cavill) having laid down his life for Earth, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) recruit a superteam to take on a new threat to civilization in Justice League. “It was all about the filling-out of this massive comic-book pantheon with the biggest and coolest heroes we could,” director Zack Snyder says of his group, which includes seafaring warrior Aquaman (Jason Momoa), speedy Flash (Ezra Miller) and high-tech Cyborg (Ray Fisher). Fans are getting a big character arc for Wonder Woman in 2017, beginning with her solo movie set during World War I. In it, she finds “humanity isn’t always the most kind and awesome thing,” says Snyder, also a producer on Wonder Woman. “It has its moments, but it can be brutal, and her coming to terms with that dichotomy is what we come to learn about her. And in Justice League, she’s fully evolved into someone who’s embraced mankind, partly through Superman’s sacrifice. She’s like, ‘All right, I’ve got to pick it up.’”

Justice League will land in theatres on November 16, 2017.
