Hilary Swank Will Headline Sci-Fi Thriller ‘I Am Mother’

Hilary Swank’s career is one of the more curious cases in Hollywood. On all sides of two deserving Oscar wins for Boys Don’t Cry and Million Dollar Baby, Swank has made some truly awful movies in all genres. Perhaps I Am Mother, the new sci-fi thriller she’s signed on to headline for first-time director Grant Sputore.

Here is a breakdown of the story from the Variety report:

[Clara] Rugaard portrays the first of a new generation of humans raised by “Mother” – a kindly robot designed to repopulate the earth following the extinction of mankind. But their unique bond is threatened when a blood-drenched woman (played by Swank) inexplicably arrives, calling into question everything she’s been told about the outside world.

The premise is interesting enough, but it all comes down to execution. Hilary Swank has starred in some sci-fi before and things didn’t turn out all that well. Remember The Core? Yeah, me neither. Swank has tried her hand at romantic comedy, sci-fi, horror, action, biopics, and none of them have managed to even come close to the work she did in her two Oscar-Winning roles.
