George Miller: “Furiosa Not in the ‘Mad Max’ Sequel Story”

George Miller recently confirmed what everyone was hoping, that he would return to the Mad Max universe for at least two more sequels (we don’t need any more than that). That led to speculation about the story, the cast (Tom Hardy is confirmed for at least two films) and, most importantly, whether or not Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa would be returning.

Miller spoke to Digital Spy about the sequels and Theron’s involvement, or lack thereof. “I’m not sure, is the answer,” Miller said when asked about Furiosa’s return. “She’s not in the Mad Max [sequel] story, but in one of the stories there’s an interaction between [Max and Furiosa]. I can’t really say more than that because it’s still in progress.”

It seems unlikely Theron would sign on and return to the franchise for a quick cameo or brief scene. Undertaking the Furiosa character has to be time consuming and taxing, and for just one scene it seems Theron would be better served moving on to something else. Not having Furiosa back in the fold would also continue the Mad Max tradition of Max being the only recurring character. It’s perhaps the right move, keeping the nomadic tradition of the character alive, despite the fact Furiosa was one of the brightest spots of Fury Road.

What do you think? Would you like to see Charlize Theron reprise her role?
