It’s official, Christopher Nolan is going through with this whole Dunkirk thing. We have set photos and now an official synopsis to prove it! And while we are extremely early in the process, pretty much as early as we could possibly be, these first set photos look pretty cool.
Here are the set photos, courtesy of Pierre Volot:

As for the synopsis, it’s about as you’d expect:
“Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.”
Dunkirk stars Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, and Harry Styles. Yes, Harry Styles, and he probably doesn’t “star” per se, but it’s worth noting he’s in the mix.
It’s nice to see Nolan moving away from superheroes and sci-fi for his next massive epic. Not that there’s anything wrong with any of those, but seeing a shift into some new territory is always a god thing for any filmmaker of his ilk.
Dunkirk will hit theaters July 21, 2017.
