The Snowman is a new thriller starring Michael Fassbender as a dogged detective hunting a serial killer. Based on the bestselling novel from Jo Nesbø, the film takes place in the snowbound Norwegian countryside.
This first trailer looks oddly like a 90s thriller, one of the cavalcade of Se7en imitators that filled up multiplexes late in the decade. See for yourself:

Joining Fassbender is Rebecca Ferguson, a British version of J.K. Simmons apparently, Chloë Sevigny, Charlotte Gainsbourg, James D’Arcy, Toby Jones, and… Val Kilmer. Always nice to see Killer Kilmer in a role.
The Snowman oozes generic genre thriller, all the way dow to the serial killer who is enamored with some random gimmick. Maybe director Tomas Alfredson can bring something new and fresh to the table here, and maybe The Snowman is not your run-of-the-mill serial killer picture. This trailer definitely doesn’t give off that vibe.
The Snowman will hit theaters October 20.
