Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman Will Appear In The ‘Flashpoint’ Movie

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Warner Bros. and DC Films shocked San Diego Comic-Con and the world when they announced that The Flash movie is officially titled Flashpoint. Fans of the comic-book storyline will be well aware that Flashpoint has a significant influence on the DC Universe, and features an extensive collection of DC characters, including Wonder Woman.

According to Forbes, Gal Gadot will reprise her role as Diana Prince aka. Wonder Woman in the Flashpoint movie, which won’t come as a massive surprise to most fans. The original storyline heavily features the larger DC Universe, with the majority of DC’s most successful characters popping up. In fact, it wouldn’t be a surprise to learn that Aquaman, Cyborg and more Justice League heroes were set to appear in the Flashpoint movie.

The article also states that Warner Bros. has scheduled Flashpoint for a 2020 release, which gives many fans hope that the project has found its feet. In many ways, it looks like The Flash movie is finally moving forward and in a good direction. It’s no secret that the film had a difficult time in development hell, but with a new script and Wonder Woman’s inclusion, things are starting to look up.

It’s worth noting that this report hasn’t been confirmed by Warner Bros. and should currently be regarded as a rumour. Hopefully, as The Flash movie develops, we’ll hear about more additions to the cast.

‘Avengers’ #10 A Dull Distraction From An Otherwise Great Run

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Mark Waid and Mike Del Mundo take a break from their stellar Avengers run to tell a story about Secret Empire‘s Hydra Avengers.

Avengers 10 cvr

***SPOILERS LIE AHEAD***

Taking a break from your regularly scheduled Avengers fun, issue #10 focuses solely on Captain Hydra’s goon squad. While investigating a disturbance with the planetary shield around Earth, the team finds a giant squid monster and destroys it.

This is an instance where halting the ongoing series for a tie-in was intrusive. Secret Empire has been mostly great, and so has Waid’s run on Avengers. What this ends up being is a forced distraction from something that was really clicking.

Del Mundo has been doing wonderful work on the title, this issue was a step back. His art style didn’t take to certain characters as well as the regular cast. Odinson and Octavius were particularly jarring. The whole issue just seems rushed for Del Mundo’s standards.

Avengers 10 vision

Vision is unaffected, he still sings in Del Mundo’s art and is the most compelling of the team from a narrative standpoint. That comes as no surprise to those who have been reading the series already.

Deadpool also looks great despite every bit of dialogue being overly irritating. It’s satisfying how unbearable Ock finds Wade, but not worth the eye-roll inducing dialogue.

I’m no Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice apologist, but how many unfunny jokes can Marvel writers make about “Martha”?

Avengers 10 Martha

It’s worth noting that through all the appearances this team of Hydra Avengers has made throughout the event, nobody has found anything for Black Ant to do. It makes me wonder why he’s even on the team. Even when he utilizes his one skill, shrinking inside the enemy, he proves to be utterly useless.

For the most part, Secret Empire tie-ins have been surprisingly enjoyable and relevant. The biggest problem with this one is the same issue plaguing the other lackluster issues. Tie-in issues need to progress the story in the background, not continuously go to the beginning and show more about a planetary shield.

Avengers 10 mess

At least this is a quick read. I imagine the creative team wanted to get through it as fast as readers will. It’s a shame sometimes when creators are forced to shove an event into their book that was otherwise great. Hopefully this issue doesn’t defer people from reading the rest of Avengers.

‘All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy’ #7, Drax Addresses His Pacifism

Monkeys Fighting Robots

The hits keep on coming with Gerry Duggan and his rotating team of artists. All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy #7 came out this week and reveals why Drax has become a pacifist.

GOTG 7 cvr

***SPOILERS LIE AHEAD***

All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy has easily been of the best Marvel titles since the recent relaunch. Following Brian Michael Bendis’ underwhelming run with the team, Duggan came in and knocked it out of the park immediately.

One of the things that was different from the start was Drax and his new life as a pacifist. “The Destroyer” has sheathed his famous death blades. All-New GOTG #7 sees Drax bear his soul and reveal to Gamora the reason behind this decision.

Greg Smallwood, from the recent Moon Knight masterpiece with Jeff Lemire, provides the art this time. His efforts here need to earn him more cosmic Marvel work. Not only his pencils, but his coloring as well is astronomically pleasing.

Drax aliensGuardians has been one of the only current titles to rotate artists without severely hurting itself. Every artist seems to be handed the appropriate script that matches their style. It’s impressive and appreciated.

This is a very different, but still effective, characterization of Drax. Seeing him open up to his teammate, and what the story entails, adds more depth to him than ever before. Duggan’a run is still not on the level of Abnett/Lanning, but he’s also trying and succeeding in doing something different. This is damn good Guardians.

Drax Gamora meditate

Even though this iteration of the team is still emulating the vibe of the movies, Duggan refused to let Drax become a one-note character. He’s been taking his time and getting intimate with the members of the team one at a time, deepening the reader’s connection with each of them.

Having this delicate story unfold and tying it into Gamora’s similar issue and arc by the end was a nice touch. The trajectory this plot is on promises to be classic cosmic goodness!

Drax punchDuggan has the ability with GOTG to deliver an emotionally fulfilling experience. He exposes the heart of these heroes that’s hiding underneath the rough exterior, sprinkling in well executed and perfectly timed jokes. The humor hits hard in this issue because it’s tasteful and strikes when you least expect it.

Marvel has something special with these characters again, they need to make sure they don’t lose it again. Where else could you get what is probably the greatest panel in Guardians Of The Galaxy comic book history?

‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’ Season Three Opens A New Path

Monkeys Fighting Robots

MINOR SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2

The time has come for more Voltron: Legendary Defender. The adventure continues for the Voltron Paladins with their never ending quest to take down the Galra empire. Fans have been waiting with baited breath after the second season finale and the wait is finally over. How does this season compare with others?

Picking up some time after the battle with Zarkon, the Paladins are working towards helping take back the Universe from the Galran empire, one planet at at time. Unfortunately the are opposed by Zarkon’s son, Prince Lotor, who seems to be much more cunning and devious with his plans than his father. Throughout the season, Lotor finds ways to lure the team into traps which they barely escape and finding ways to use them for his own advantage. Will the team succeed and what of their missing leader, Shiro?

Voltron

If the second season of the show made everyone think the series was on the precipice of ending, the goal of season three was to show how much more story there is to tell. The concept of their being alternative realities is introduced in a successful manner. It isn’t too outside of the ballpark of what has been shown so far, as the series has utilized the idea of space travel through wormholes and finds a way to tie it all back into the mystery and mythology surrounding Voltron. The season also features return of a character from the original show who many probably thought would never appear.

The shorter length of the season is noticeable. Yes, it was creator’s intent to have shorter seasons so content can come with a diminished wait but it does feel like half a season. To this end a lot of plot elements are introduced but not fully flushed out. The residents of the Galaxy being unable to accept the Blade of Mamora because they are Galra. The backstories behind Lotor’s Generals, other than the fact they are all female and seem formidable in battle. The development of Keith and his role as a leader is introduced but shows he has long way to go to match his original counterpart. He is still quick to anger and constantly comparing himself to Shiro. All of these elements help to showcase just how much more story is left to tell in the series.

Voltron

The production behind the show hasn’t decreased a bit. The art is on point and offering some great visual moments through the season. The episode The Legend Begins is of particular note by showing the origin of Voltron and the history behind the original Paladins. The music is uplifting as always as well. A piece which really stuck out was the background sound of The Journey as it helped to convey a sense of isolation and loneliness.

Overall this is a good season with plethora of great moments and revelations are explored. It doesn’t end on a massive cliffhanger like the previous seasons have which is would have been better as the wait for new content is shorter. Still, it does show there is a lot to look forward to and isn’t without a perfect episode (The Journey). It is an entertaining season of Voltron: Legendary Defender but not the best presented so far.

First Reviews For ‘Inhumans’ Not Looking Good

Monkeys Fighting Robots

UPDATE: ABC Is Still Working On Special Effects For ‘Marvel’s Inhumans’ Pilot

‘Marvel’s Inhumans’ ended up looking more like ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ than an IMAX worthy film or at the very least a Marvel Netflix series, and the first reviews of the pilot are not holding back.

THE REVIEW QUOTES WERE TAKEN DOWN AT THE REQUEST OF ABC AND MARVEL STUDIOS.

.

The ‘Inhumans’ will get a two-week engagement with IMAX on September 1 to screen the first two episodes. Then the first two episodes will air Friday, September 29 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC to launch the series.

‘Marvel’s Inhumans’ explores the never-before-told epic adventure of the royal family including Black Bolt, the enigmatic, commanding King of the Inhumans, with a voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy a city. After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where they are greeted with surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them. Now they must find a way to reunite with each other and return to their home before their way of life is destroyed forever.

‘Marvel’s Inhumans’ stars Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Iwan Rheon as Maximus, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Ken Leung as Karnak, Ellen Woglom as an undisclosed character, Sonya Balmores as Auran and Mike Moh as Triton.

If this is an epic disaster by Marvel Studios, Disney, and ABC – maybe the silver lining will be renewed talks with FOX to bring the X-Men to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

‘The Mist’ Episode 7 “Over the River and Through the Woods” Showed Me Frances Conroy’s Bum

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Previously on ‘The Mist’, Eve didn’t trust Jay. Kevin shouldn’t have trusted a doctor and Mia dealt with the ghosts in the mist.

Who do you trust?

This episode played out a lot of the new character dynamics brilliantly. Finally, after seven episodes, there was real tension. Starting with Nathalie and her defying the faith of Father Romanov. Everything that happened in the church portion of the show was fantastic. Connor finally managing to exert some form of power brought the character back to life! His faith in Nathalie and her message turned him into the very thing he was against from the priest. The final battle of faith was creepy and prophetic, Nathalie’s decision to face the mist naked vs Father Romanov full church attire spoke volumes. The show has worked hard to show the mist as an almost psychic entity, by using the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse they cemented the argument of Mist vs Faith. Naked Nathalie won and started her reign as leader of the church with a lie.

Who Is Jonah?

Fake Bryan’s arc this week also fed into the paranoia of the episode. Who are you if you don’t even know your real name? Thankfully, due to Mia’s screaming during her detox, he now has a memory. Sadly it’s not a good one, it seems that Jonah has been used as some type of test subject for something. I’m hedging my bets that this will tie into what the mist is and how Arrowhead is connected to it. His decision to trust Mia and help her through the harrowing detox. It’s added a deeper level to both of them, Mia chose to come back and Jonah has chosen to trust in someone other than himself.

How long until we find out Adrian raped Alex?

At this point, they’re not even being subtle about it. During Kevin’s dark and detailed description of what he would do the rapist, the camera all but put a spotlight on Adrian’s terrified face. Even with the attempt to soften Adrian through his burgeoning relationship, I’m not buying it. There’s a reason that Nash picked him as the only one with evil inside him.

The fact that all of Kevin and Co’s segment was set in a psyche ward really set the tone for the episode. Kevin has continued his downward path to darkness, he’s even admitted it to himself. He said very early on there was nothing he wouldn’t do to get to his wife and daughter. This week he proved it.

Why isn’t the mall interesting?

I’ve been patient, I’ve waited and now I’ve officially given up. The mall had so much potential, especially with them diving into two camps quite early on. Sadly it’s just not living up to the hype. Gus stashing food wasn’t even interesting, neither is the paranoia directed towards Eve’s camp. Speaking of Eve, she desperately needs something to do. At the moment she’s serving no purpose other than to snarl at Jay. Another character they’re desperate to portray as a good guy, which goes against the allegation that he’s the rapist. The biggest issue with the mall is the safety they have. There are very little threats and or danger. I imagine they’re going to go down the “people are the worst monsters” route with the mall, the pacing for the story is just dull.

Verdict

Despite my moaning about the mall segment, this was another strong episode. The danger of the psyche ward and the battle in the church brought some genuine tension. Frances Conroy finally had something to do this week and she excelled at it. Every scene with her in, she dominated. The pay off was a spectacular battle of faith. The fact that the mist has let both Alex and Nathalie survive is obviously going to play out over the next few episodes and I for one can’t wait to watch it!
