“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Release Date Closes Gap After “Inhumans”

S.H.I.E.L.D. fans, rejoice! Season five is already well into filming, and will premiere almost three months earlier than originally promised. Natalie Abrams reported for Entertainment Weekly that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will begin airing immediately after Inhumans. Marvel’s newest cable TV program premiers first in IMAX on Sept. 1. Its eight episode season then begins airing on ABC on Friday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m.

A little quick math reveals a pleasant surprise: S.H.I.E.L.D. kicks off its fifth season on November 24th. When Marvel confirmed S.H.I.E.L.D.’s fifth season this spring, the plan was to hold off airing until January. However, last weekend, ABC Chief Channing Dungey announced during the Television Critics Association’s press tour that the vet show will air instead immediately as Inhumans wraps up.

The reason for the dramatic change is unclear. However, the news comes soon after SDCC, where Marvel and ABC put all their eggs in an Inhuman basket. The SHIELD cast was nowhere to be seen. The official reason for their absence was the beginning of filming on season five, but season four began filming the same weekend as SDCC 2016, and most of the cast balanced both filming and appearing at all four days of the con. Fans were confused by the inconsistent timing. The fact that the show wasn’t supposed to air until after the winter break caused even more confusion regarding the film schedule.

Uninterrupted S.H.I.E.L.D.

Season five is set for a full twenty two episodes. Even with the earlier start time, the show will air with very few interruptions. The air schedule will be a wonderful change from season four, which was split into three “pods”. Long breaks in the air schedule broke the pods up into three parts, which were almost completely disjointed from one another. Creator/producer team Joss and Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen are tight-lipped about the structure of season five. They’re also tight-lipped about any plot details, but with the way season four unfolded, pretty much anything’s possible.

‘Cowboy Ninja Viking’ Live-Action Film Takes On The 2019 Summer Blockbuster Season

The live-action version of ‘Cowboy Ninja Viking’ appears to be a heavyweight as Universal announced a Friday, June 28, 2019, release date, according to Deadline.

Chris Pratt is attached to star as the lead character an assassin with a multiple personality disorder known as the Cowboy Ninja Viking. Pratt has 15 films to his credit and averages $138 million domestically per film. He can thank ‘Jurassic World’ for increasing his average by 35%.

No director or additional casting news was announced.

From Image Comics, Cowboy Ninja Viking was created by AJ Lieberman and Riley Rossmo. The book ran for 10 issues.

Tasked with creating a counter-intelligence unit, he turned to those long thought useless to society…patients with Multiple Personality Disorder. These agents became known simply as Triplets. Kathy Bates Takes Netflix On A Trip In New ‘Disjointed’ Trailer

Just in case you forgot, Kathy Bates is a very good actress with impressive comedic timing, the laugh track will get annoying but ‘Disjointed’ has a chance to be a good sitcom.

Netflix released a new trailer for ‘Disjointed’ Tuesday afternoon.

‘Disjointed’ is a 30-minute sitcom created by Chuck Lorre and David Javerbaum. Bates plays Ruth, a lifelong advocate for legalization who is finally living her dream as the owner of a Los Angeles cannabis dispensary, Ruth’s Alternative Caring. Joining her are three charismatic “budtenders”, her entrepreneurial twenty-something-year-old son and a very troubled security guard.

The show stars Bates, Tone Bell, Aaron Moten, Elizabeth Alderfer, Dougie Baldwin and Elizabeth Ho.

Netflix Pulls David Letterman Out Of Retirement

Netflix announced Tuesday morning David Letterman is going back to work. The streaming service signed the former late night host to a six-episode series.

“I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix. Here’s what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely,” said Letterman.

The yet-to-be-named show will focus on in-depth conversations with extraordinary people, and in-the-field segments expressing his curiosity and humor. In each hour-long episode, Letterman will conduct a long-form conversation with a singular guest – and will also explore topics on his own, away from the studio.

Letterman’s last episode of ‘The Late Show’ aired on May 20, 2015, to an audience of 13.76 million people.

Archie Comics Revives Title Created By Jerry Siegel, The Mighty Crusaders

Archie Comics made a bold move Tuesday morning when it announced the return of The Mighty Crusaders a title created by Jerry Siegel in 1965, via THR. Ian Flynn takes on the task of writing The Mighty Crusaders with art by Kelsey Shannon.

“The best of the golden age through the lens of the present. That grand scale spectacle and boundless imagination of the great old comics past mixed with the attention to character and emotional realism that we all come to expect from the stories we choose to invest ourselves in today,” said Shannon.

Archie Comics would love to compete with Marvel and DC Comics in the world of superheroes, but the first chance Archie CEO Jon Goldwater gets he takes a swipe at the big two.

“We wanted to create a book that’s accessible, not mired in a million crossovers and part of a bigger, unfolding story,” said Goldwater.

Our advice to Goldwater, produce great comic books and don’t worry about the competition. If you want to take on DC and Marvel that is amazing, more competition will only do the industry better, but don’t stare at your home run before it leaves the park. It was only a short time ago Archie Comics failed miserably at a Kickstarter campaign to relaunch the company. Focus on the heroes.

Goldwater states this will be a lynchpin book that he hopes will lead to spin-offs and expansion for the Dark Circle universe.

“You don’t need a Ph.D. in comics to hop onboard. Everything is explained in the first issue. These are beloved, iconic characters and it’s time we dust them off and let them shine for what they are — amazing superhero properties that deserve a bigger spotlight,” said Goldwater.

Yes, talking down to comic books fans has always worked so well. Goldwater instead, needs to give more details about the series and let the creative team involved be the face of the conversation.

The Final Adam West ‘Batman’ Movie Just Got A Release Date

As all of our readers likely know, the legendary Adam West passed away earlier this year. He was the original Batman, and was considered one of the most influental actors to don the cape. Despite the tragic passing, West had finished his work on Batman vs. Two-Face, which means fans will get one more Batman movie starring the actor.

Best Buy has listed Batman vs. Two-Face with a October 17, 2017 release date.

Two-Face/Harvey Dent is voiced by none-other than Star Trek legend William Shatner, with Julie Newmar portraying Catwoman, Burt Ward as Robin, and Steven Weber as Alfred Pennyworth.

Former Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent, one side of his face scarred by acid, goes on a crime spree based on the number ‘2’. All of his actions are decided by the flip of a defaced, two-headed silver dollar.

Superman Returns In ‘Justice League’ Marketing Campaign

Although the trailers and footage for Justice League have done well in not showing off Superman, the other pieces of marketing, unfortunately, have not followed suit. While we’ve gotten photos here and there, nothing, until now, has given us such a good look at Henry Cavill’s character in the film.

Unfortunately, it appears as though Kal-El won’t be rocking his famous mullet and beard after returning, like the character did in the comic books.

“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. Darren Aronofsky Showcases His Unique Brand of Horror With ‘Mother!’

The first official look at ‘Mother!‘ is not only chilling but rather puzzling. Like previous Darren Aronofsky movies, the viewer isn’t always clued in on what’s happening. That doesn’t change with the newest trailer for ‘Mother!‘. Unlike the teaser released a few weeks back, there’s a better sense of the film’s plot. A reclusive couple (Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem) have their peaceful lives shaken up. There’s no confirmation on what starts the horror, but it doesn’t take long for it to get extreme.

The film feels like a psycho-sexual version of Rosemary’s Baby. Viewers can’t help but get a satanic vibe from what’s shown here. With the addition of Michelle Phiffer and Ed Harris characters, things not only get stranger but far more erotic. Are they trying to lure this homely couple into something dark?

Darren Aronofsky is known for bending genre conventions, blurring the line between what is a thriller and what is horror. ‘Mother!‘ seems to be in vain of his previous work Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream. The raw reality is a terrifying concept, so why not explore that? Though Aronofsky ups the realism with a little magic, it doesn’t take away from his dramatic & horrifying look at humans. ‘Mother!‘ seems to dive into marriage, love, and what happens when temptation strikes. Going from addiction to drugs and work, could this be his film about a serious addiction to love?

‘Wet Hot American Summer’ Original Graphic Novel Coming In June

‘Wet Hot American Summer’ is a cult classic, and now two Netflix series later, BOOM! Studios believe there is enough material left for an original graphic novel. The comic publisher announced Monday afternoon, a ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ graphic novel would hit the shelves in June and take place between the original film and Netflix prequel series.

The complete cast of Camp Firewood will be featured in the book. No creative teams have been announced, only a Joe Quinones was released.

“Wet Hot American Summer is one of those magical films that not only helped launch the career of a dozen household names, but resonated with a generation of viewers over many repeat viewings,” said Filip Sablik, President of Publishing & Marketing, BOOM! Studios. “We’re excited to reveal more story details and the full creative team of this brand-new addition to the world of Wet Hot American Summer, but we know when you see the beautiful cover by Joe Quinones, you’ll understand why this will be one of our biggest releases in 2018.”

“We love the BOOM! Studios guys’ work and we’re thrilled to be partnering with them on the Wet Hot graphic novel,” said Howard Bernstein, producer of the 2001 film. “It’s exciting for us to bring to the billions of Wet Hot fans across the globe another way to enjoy the characters.”

‘Wet Hot American Summer’ stars Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, and Molly Shannon. The film was written by Michael Showalter and David Wain and directed by Wain. The Netflix series, ‘Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp,’ was released in Summer 2015, and a follow-up Netflix series, ‘Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later,’ was released this summer.

Jay and Silent Bob Cosplayers Set Guinness World Record at Secret Stash

Writer/director/podcaster/Jersey native Kevin Smith celebrated his birthday, as well as the 20th anniversary of Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash, the landmark comic book store in Red Bank, New Jersey, over the weekend.

Smith returned to his old stomping grounds to film a segment of AMC’s Comic Book Men, where he and his hetero life-mate Jason Mewes (the Jay to his Silent Bob) attempted to break a Guinness World Record on August 5 with fans cosplaying as the famous duo. Smith and Mewes greeted fans, passed out donuts, and even dressed up as their cinematic counterparts. Hundreds arrived over the course of the day to take part in the attempt – and they succeeded.

To top it off, Red Bank mayor Pasquale Menna was there to give Kevin Smith a key to the city.

After the event, Smith returned to his hometown of Atlantic Highlands as a special guest for a screening of Shooting Clerks, a feature film about the making of Clerks from independent Scottish writer/director Christopher Downie. Smith served as Executive Producer on the flick.

Kevin Smith is a busy man these days. He is producing and hosting a number of podcasts under his Smodcast brand. He is also in production of Moose Jaws, the third in his “True North Trilogy,” the horror anthology Killroy Was Here, the Spawn spinoff series Sam and Twitch, and an announced return to his View Askewniverse with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. He has also been a welcome addition to DCTV, directing episodes of Supergirl and The Flash.
