Netflix is raising its prices, according to Mashable.
Customers who pay for the standard service of $9.99 will now be charged $10.99. If you’re a premium tier customer, the price hike will cost you an extra $2: $13.99, compared to the previous $11.99.
However, there is one buyer left out of this increase in price. If you’re paying for the $7.99 basic version, it won’t cost you anything more.
Netflix released a statement on the matter, which can be read below.
“From time to time, Netflix plans and pricing are adjusted as we add more exclusive TV shows and movies, introduce new product features and improve the overall Netflix experience to help members find something great to watch even faster.”

Nash Huang is a social media pseudo-star in the not-so-far-future. She’s got it pretty good, but things begin to unravel when contact lenses that can record video and augment reality hit the market. After a sex tape leaks, Nash has to scramble to keep her life together as everyone, including strangers and internet trolls, sticks their noses in her business. Then the bodies begin piling up. This is the world of Jacob Semahn and Jorge Corona’s No. 1 With A Bullet, out November 1st from Image.
No. 1 With A Bullet is not only a terrifying look at how dangerous technology can be, but also a sobering look at how dangerous it already is. Social media “celebrities,” hacks and leaks…these words are becoming part of our every day vernacular. And although AR contact lenses don’t exist (yet), we do have eye-wear that’s pretty close.
Dystopian sci-fi is scary because it shows us a warped world that may be if we continue down a certain path. Semahn’s script flips that notion on its head and asks, “Are we too late? Is this us?” It forces us to look inward and judge our own actions. Do we concern ourselves too much with other people’s business, people we’ve never even met, and judge them unjustly? Is privacy a thing of the past?
Nash herself is caught “victim blaming” when a celebrity’s email gets hacked and her response is, “It’s the internet. Don’t want your shit out there? Then don’t make it easy for people to take advantage.” It’s the argument we hear every time a sex tape or nude photo leaks. Nash is representing the book’s audience, and Semahn is showing how easy it is for people to judge from the outside. But then Nash is the victim, and in turn, so is the reader.
Again, we’re forced to ask ourselves the hard questions. Is it really the victim’s fault? Should we expect people to live in fear, and not allow them to enjoy themselves out of paranoia? By establishing Nash as the book’s POV, Semahn puts the audience in the hot seat and makes us to see firsthand that these situations aren’t as black and white as we make them seem in comment sections. This is sci-fi storytelling at its finest.
No. 1 With A Bullet is a trippy look at the world, and the art reflects that. The work by Jorge Corona is raw and edgy, and it often distorts the audience’s view of the world – like looking through a fisheye lens. The panel layouts emphasize this feeling as well, often looking jumbled and haphazardly thrown together.
Then, color artist Jen Hickman steps in and knocks the ball not only out of the park, but out of the county. Hickman said in a recent interview with Image+ that she’s playing with colors that “indicate an emotional state, rather than a physical one, to try and readers more immersed in the action.” It works 150%. Her work is vibrant and bizarre, adding to the disorientation set up by Corona. It not only immerses the reader, but it also stirs up a fervent reaction within them.
No. 1 With A Bullet is a special kind of comic. It’s a comic that has something important to say and a lesson to teach, but it does so with a captivating story and without preaching. Add on top of that artwork that will grab you without having to read a single word, and Image has another best-seller on their hands.
No. 1 With A Bullet hits shelves November 1st. Final order cutoff is Monday, October 9th, so call your local comic shop now!
Universal’s Dark Universe got off to the worst possible start back in June with the Tom Cruise debacle The Mummy. It may have made hella cash globally (around $400 million), but the dismal reviews and general disinterest in the IP overall has made the studio postpone their upcoming second entry, Bride of Frankenstein.
Here is a statement from the studio, per Deadline:
After thoughtful consideration, Universal Pictures and director Bill Condon have decided to postpone Bride of Frankenstein. None of us want to move too quickly to meet a release date when we know this special movie needs more time to come together. Bill is a director whose enormous talent has been proven time and again, and we all look forward to continuing to work on this film together.
It’s almost like starting this whole thing off with another Mummy movie was a terrible idea. But what do I know?
Bride of Frankenstein sounded like the most promising of the bunch. Bill Condon, who directed the James Whale story Gods and Monsters, was on board to direct. And Javier Bardem had already been cast as Frankenstein’s Monster. Alas, an ill-conceived launchpad film directed by a Fast and Furious dude and featuring a bored Tom Cruise AND the worse iteration of Dr. Henry Jekyll ever put to film proved to be too much to look past.
Maybe they can start all over, and take us to a place we haven’t seen for the past two decades. Like the Black Lagoon, perhaps? Whatever the case, the Dark Universe already feels dead in the water, and that is a damn shame.

Here’s the official synopsis:
“A decade ago 300,000 citizens of Philadelphia were suddenly lost in Oblivion. The government made every attempt to recover them but after many years they gave up. Nathan Cole… won’t. Never heard of Matt Sardo? For starters, he made the Kessel Run in less than 11 parsecs. Prior to that, he gave Doc Brown the idea for the flux capacitor and led the Resistance to victory over SkyNet – all while sipping a finely crafted IPA. As a radio host, he’s interviewed celebrities, athletes and everyone in between. He’s covered everything from the Super Bowl to Comic-Con.
Denzel Washington appears to be channeling Princeton professor Cornell West in Roman J. Israel, Esq, the new thriller from Nightcrawler director Dan Gilroy.
The trailer is unusual. It’s breezy all the way through, but it clearly hints at some thriller elements. Colin Farrell shows up as a mystery lawyer who brings Washington into his law firm. Check it out:
Roman J. Israel, Esq. is a dramatic thriller set in the underbelly of the overburdened Los Angeles criminal court system. Denzel Washington stars as a driven, idealistic defense attorney whose life is upended when a turbulent series of events challenge the activism that has defined his career. Colin Farrell costars as the ambitious, monied lawyer who recruits Roman to his firm.
Roman J. Israel, Esq is going to get a big awards season push, especially for Denzel Washington who’s angling for his ninth nomination. Gilroy has skins on the wall, having directed Nightcrawler and written the screenplay for Michael Clayton, the best legal thriller of the 21st century.
Aside from Washington and Farrell, Roman J. Israel, Esq (this is a bear of a title, by the way) stars Carmen Ejogo, Lynda Gravatt, Amanda Warren, Hugo Armstrong, Sam Gilroy, Tony Plana, DeRon Horton and Amari Cheatom. It will be here November 3.
Marvel and Netflix made the right decision Wednesday afternoon when they pulled ‘The Punisher’ panel from the New York Comic-Con schedule of events, according to Deadline.
The Punisher is a hyper-violent character, and a new trailer depicting mass violence doesn’t make sense in the wake of the Las Vegas shooting. Marvel and Netflix put out a joint statement:
“We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas. After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic-Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.”
Take note; this is how you handle public relations after a tragedy. On the other hand, NYCC released a statement shortly after:
“New York Comic Con wholeheartedly supports Netflix & Marvel’s decision to cancel Saturday’s The Punisher panel. NYCC takes great pride in offering fans the best in pop culture programming, and we are working tirelessly to fill that time slot at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. We will continue to update fans via our social channels throughout the weekend.”
The folks at NYCC should have left it after the first sentence. Everything else sounds like insensitive, money-grubbing, bull-shit.
Netflix has yet to announce a release date for ‘Marvel’s The Punisher.’ It will be interesting to when Netflix debuts the series, and if this will hurt or help ratings. When fiction starts resembling reality people tend to tune out.

This might be the best damn bromance on television! In a new image released by Entertainment Weekly, it has been revealed that Finn Jones will appear as the Immortal Iron Fist in season two of Luke Cage.
It’s not a very surprising to see that Iron Fist will appear in LukeCage, especially since the characters are best friends and superhero co-workers in the comics. Marvel Entertainment is staying tight-lipped about Danny Rand’s involvement in the series, but we know that the pair will share the screen at least once when the show returns to Netflix.
Luke Cage season 2 is currently filming and is expected to land on Netflix in 2018.
Warner Bros. has released the first image from the upcoming Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them sequel. The film, which is still untitled, will continue Newt Scamander’s adventures in the Wizarding World.
Officially released on Twitter, the first image shows Newt’s travel application, which has been denied by the Ministry of Magic. A close examination of the image reveals that Scamander’s application was denied because of his behaviour on a previous visit. This would seem to suggest that Newt will return to the United States in the upcoming sequel.
