‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ is filming now, and a few images have surfaced on the internet giving fans their first look at Nathan Fillion as Wonder Man.
Wonder Man is Simon Williams, one of the founding members of the West Coast Avengers. It looks like Marvel is starting Williams off in Hollywood and skipping his complicated origin story. Simon Williams first debut in Avengers #9 (1964) and given powers by Baron Zemo. The character was shelved after DC Comics sued Marvel Comics.
“You know, years ago we brought out Wonder Man, and DC Comics sued us because they had Wonder Woman, and… I said okay, I’ll discontinue Wonder Man. And all of a sudden they’ve got Power Girl [after Marvel had introduced Power Man]. Oh, boy. How unfair,” said Marvel Comics’ then-publisher Stan Lee said in 1978.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ is written and directed by James Gunn and stars Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Kurt Russell, and Pom Klementieff.
The Cosmic Heroes return to the big screen on May 5, 2017.
