Despite existing for 56 years, Groot didn’t become a household name until 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Thanks to Marvel Studios and Vin Diesel, Groot is now a pop culture icon. Now, he will continue his growth as a character in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2.
According to Collider, Groot has a new arc in the new film. While this is the same Groot, he will have a personality that is noticeably different from the last movie.
“He couldn’t be more naive as Baby Groot,” says Diesel. “I always think of the Groot that we saw on the first Guardians as a college-level Groot, so he’s not fully grown yet, but he’s a man.”
This Groot serves as a reset version of the character, and he will have to regain his skills. “And once he sacrifices himself at the end of the movie, now he has to start all over, so to speak, but we’re gonna see this goofy, adorable, baby Groot thing running around the screen and just learning as he goes.”
This collaborates Kevin Feige’s previous comments, in which he reveals Groot will retain his memories from the last film. “He’s not mentally a baby, he is still Groot,” says Feige. “I sort of equate it to Spock circa the end of Search for Spock and The Voyage Home.”
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 is coming to theatres on May 5, 2017.
