Marvel announced that the production of Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman in the leading role, had begun in January of this year with shooting reportedly taking place in Atlanta and South Korea. The synopsis released with that news is as follows:

Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the events of Captain America: Civil War, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

Ryan Coogler of Creed and Fruitvale Station is directing this next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole (The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story). Alongside Chadwick Boseman, the movie stars Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kuluuya, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis. It is produced by Kevin Feige, with Executive Producers Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nate Moore, Jeffrey Chernov and the phenomenal Stan Lee.

Black Panther is due for release on February 16th, 2018.
