Cult Director Brings Cult Anime/Manga To The Live Action Realm
World renowned auteur Takashi Miike has released a trailer for his 100th film, a live-action adaptation of the anime/manga title Blade of The Immortal (published by Dark Horse Comics in the U.S) by Hiroaki Samura. Check it out below.
Blade of the Immortal is the story of a man named Manji, a skilled samurai who has a powerful advantage: no wound can kill him. His past criminal actions led to the death of 100 other samurai (including his sister’s husband). He becomes immortal at the hand of an 800-year-old woman named Yaobikuni, and is compelled by his sister’s death to accept a quest that will end his agelessness. He has promised to kill 1000 evil men and until he does Manji will be kept alive by sacred bloodworms.
This sounds like a perfect story for the over the top, violent style that has made Takashi Miike a favorite of cinephiles everywhere.
