SDCC: Marvel Unleashes Details Of ‘Captain Marvel’ Film

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Though a trailer or teaser wasn’t provided there was still plenty of information about the upcoming Captain Marvel movie set to open in 2019. The news paints a very vivid picture of what to expect from Marvel’s first female led film, where Brie Larson is set to play Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel.

The movie will take place in the 1990s, meaning it will be before the events of the first entry in the MCU, Iron Man. This will no doubt result in hiding the details of what plays out to explain why this events were not mentioned in any other movies previously. Details which were buried deep in the S.H.I.E.L.D. files (a bit of speculation on how this can all be explained). Concept art has been provided which showcases Samuel L. Jackson, once again assuming his role as NIck Fury. The artwork also showed the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. to still have both of his eyes, meaning there is a good chance the events which lead to him losing his eye will be played out.

The main antagonists of the film were also revealed. It will be the shapeshifting, world conquering aliens, The Skrulls who will Captain Marvel will have to tangle with. This seems like a perfect fit given how Captain Marvel’s powers came from the Kree, the alien race which has fought with the Skrulls countless times in the comic book mythology.

The film is set to be released on March 8th, 2019, meaning there may still be a wait before a full trailer is released for the film. Keep your eyes pealed to Monkeys Fighting Robots for more news on the coming of Captain Marvel to the big screen.

SDCC: ‘Supergirl’ Season 3 Trailer and New Cast Announcements

Monkeys Fighting Robots

The CW takes a dark twist at San Diego Comic-Con International Saturday as the network released a trailer for Season Three of ‘Supergirl’ and made several cast announcements.

The major threat in season three will be the DC Worldkiller Reign played by Odette Annable.

New cast members:
Adrian Pasdar (Heroes, Colony, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will play the charismatic capitalist Morgan Edge, a ruthless real estate developer who will stop at nothing to get what he wants (and what he feels he deserves). The DC villain’s big plans for National City instantly put him at odds with Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).

Carl Lumbly (Alias, Southland, The Cure for Wellness) embodies the classic DC character M’yrnn J’onzz, the father of J’onn J’onnz, the Martian Manhunter (David Harewood). A pacifist religious leader on Mars, M’yrn pushes his son in unexpected ways. Actor Lumbly is no stranger to the J’onzz family, as he’s voiced the Martian Manhunter on the Justice League animated series.

Yael Grobglas (Jane the Virgin, Reign) portrays DC character Psi, a psychic villain who uses people’s own minds against them. Psi’s agenda puts her on Supergirl’s radar, and their meeting will affect the Girl of Steel in surprising ways.

Emma Tremblay (Elysium, The Judge, The Giver, Wayward Pines) plays Ruby, a smart, independently minded National City kid who’s fascinated by Supergirl and ends up in jeopardy because of it.

‘Supergirl’ returns on Monday, October 9, at 8/7c on The CW.

The Best Casting Choices For Fox’s Doctor Doom Solo Film

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Doctor Doom Deserves Only The Best Man Behind That Mask

Noah Hawley is getting a unique chance to reshape the perception of Fox’s Fantastic Four universe. At San Diego Comic-Con, the announcement that the Legion creator would be helming the film for Doctor Doom took the Internet by storm. Some fans hated the idea, while others cheered on Fox’s decision. The one thing that remained consistent on both sides of the fence is the need for a great man behind the mask.

Below are some of the actors that would make the best Doctor Doom.

Dan Stevens

– Around the time Noah Hawley’s Doctor Doom project was announced, Dan Steven’s name popped up. It’s not clear if he will be his Legion character or a character for Doctor Doom. His work on Legion is enough to show that he can be dark & twisted, but he also has regal qualities to him. Working on Downton Abby gives him enough posh elegance to pull off the cool, calm, collected side of Doctor Doom.

Wes Bentley

– Wes Bently doesn’t have box-office pull like others on this list. That could change with a fantastic Victor Von Doom performance. Bently’s work on TV and film stands for itself as a mix of maniacs and manic men. His piercing eyes and gruff voice fit the character very well. This role could also make up for Wes Bentley’s horrible performance as Blackheart in 2007’s Ghost Rider.

Jon Hamm

– At the core of his character, Jon Hamm’s Don Draper is Doctor Doom without the superpowers. Following his villainous turn in Baby Driver, it became even more apparent that he’s a perfect choice. Hamm looks great and has classic movie star appeal. He commands a screen and needs a real leading role in a Hollywood film. Just imagine the memes that this would create. Jon Hamm is the perfect choice for fans & the movie.

Karl Urban

– Something about this man is magnetic. He is technically part of the MCU as he’s in Thor: Ragnarok. That doesn’t mean Karl Urban still can’t be Victor Von Doom. Urban is a transformative actor that can become any character, and I don’t expect his MCU role to be lasting. Going over to Fox’s Doctor Doom solo film could becoming a career-changing moment for Karl Urban. This role can shake off a career as a supporting actor.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

– Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s work on Game of Thrones is the perfect audition for any character. Even Gods of Egypt couldn’t stop a Hollywood career as Coster-Waldau collaborates with director Brian De Palma in an upcoming film. Taking a turn at Victor Von Doom is the right move for any actor, especially someone like Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who needs to break into another fandom.

What do you think of these choices?

Let me know who you want to play Doctor Doom in his first solo outing from Fox.

‘Arrival’ Screenwriter Eric Heisserer to Develop AMC Sci-Fi Series

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Eric Heisserer, the screenwriter for the 2016 masterpiece Arrival, will be developing a science-fiction series for AMC. Arrival, which was directed by Denis Villeneuve, was an adaptation of a 1998 short story by Ted Chiang entitled Story of Your Life, and apparently Heisserer will be continuing this trend of adapting Chiang for the aforementioned series. The source material in this case is another short story, Liking What You See: A Documentary, and will deal with a very different range of subjects.

In an interview with Vulture, Heisserer said “The story is set in the near future and it’s in a time when beauty and over-sexualization of beauty has gotten out of hand in advertising and has sorta become toxic to our environment and to our relationships. And along comes a neuroscientist who discovers what’s called calliagnosia, which is a kind of non-invasive procedure that just aggravates the right part of the brain to knock out our aesthetic center so that when we see someone’s face, we can recognize elements of their face and traits of that, but we’re no longer either attracted or unattracted to that person. It’s like wolfsbane for beauty.”

With such a development, people with any type of cosmetic deformity or unconventional appearance are able to lead lives unaffected by the type of judgment they would otherwise experience. But at the same time, in a society which has spent so long mired in its emphasis on the way people look, not everyone is please with this. Heisserer told Vulture: “Of course, the giant beauty industry says, ‘This is a terrible idea. We can’t let this succeed.’ So there’s a war that goes on. A culture war.”

Heisserer is, at present, the only name publicly associated with the project, and he admitted that he doesn’t know how long it might be before the series makes it to the screen. But the prospect is certainly exciting, considering the the immense critical and/or commercial successes of other AMC series, like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and Halt and Catch Fire.

What do you think? Are you excited to see more of Chiang’s work adapted for the screen?

Monkeys Fighting Robots

During The Justice League panel, moderator Chris Hardwick gave Ben Affleck a chance to address the rumors surrounding his future, and this is what he had to say.

Affleck assured the crowd in Hall H that he not only feels lucky to be playing Batman but he literally would play any role if it was for director Matt Reeves. Whether this is how it all plays out remains to be seen. The last time Affleck spoke out like this was when he assured people that he was still directing The Batman movie. Ten Days after assuring everyone, it was announced that he has stepped away from the job. For the time being, we know that Affleck will be donning the cape and cowl for both Justice League movies. Beyond that remains to be seen.

The Justice League

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions. Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder and stars Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Ciarán Hinds (Steppenwolf), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), J.K. Simmons (Commissioner Gordon), Amber Heard (Mera), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West) and Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor).
