It appears John Wick 2 has its main villain, as Common has been tapped to play the baddie antagonist opposite Keanu Reeves.
According to the report in The Hollywood Reporter, Common has joined to play the head of a security team for a female crime lord, as yet to be cast. Very few details about the plot of John Wick 2 have been disclosed. Reeves did speak to Collider a few weeks back regarding the details of the story:
“I think we have a really good premise, and it’s an organic premise. It’s basically — to me there’s John Wick and then there’s John. You know, John is the married guy whose wife just died, and that five years of his life. Then there’s John Wick, who’s the mythical assassin. In this, John Wick’s past comes and infiltrates John’s life and John Wick, in a way, has to fight for John.”
Common, rapper turned actor, has been in his fair share of films over the last few years, including most recently Selma, Entourage, and Run All Night. He is also in the upcoming Suicide Squad film, out in August of 2016.
The Facebook page “Marvel and DC For Me” is using the crowdfunding apparel website TeeChip to sell shirts and hoodies with artwork lifted from DeviantArt without the artist’s permission.
Tom Kelly, a staple of artist alley in the Midwest, received a Facebook message from Brian Grabinski the showrunner of NWI Comic Con, informing him that a Facebook ad by “Marvel and DC For Me” appeared to be selling a shirt with his artwork on it. Kelly talked about the emotions he felt staring at his computer screen as someone else was profiting from his artwork.
“Surprised, irked and in a way flattered because I know they must have done some basic google search for Deadpool art so my art must have come up fairly quickly. Even the thieves liked my art enough to steal it. So a lot anger and a little pride. Like a 90-10 ratio of anger and flattery,” said Kelly.
Arian Noveir, a French artist that specializes in paint splatter superheroes confirmed through email that he did not give “Marvel and DC For Me” permission to use his Deadpool artwork as well.
“Marvel and DC For Me” is just a front to sell apparel through Facebook ads. There is no real website or contact information on their page. They did not return our request for comment. TeeChip even recommends that you advertise to increase sales of your t-shirt. Which brings Facebook to the table, as they are receiving advertising revenue from the sales of stolen artwork.
The first shirt “Marvel and DC For Me” produced has sold 2,458 pieces between $22.99 – $39.99 each. That’s somewhere between $56,509 and $98,295 not going to the artist! We have reached out the FBI to see if this is a federal crime due to the amount of the potential crime.
What makes TeeChip a shady operation is, as a user you can not see who you’re buying a shirt from. You can’t find the “Marvel and DC For Me” name or bio anywhere on the page. The only thing that links “Marvel and DC For Me” to the t-shirt is the Facebook post.
“Marvel and DC For Me” have 32,982 followers, which were probably bought using Facebook ads, but as a fan it is tough because you see an ad for a cool shirt and you want to buy it. Little do you know; the artist is receiving zero compensation for his/her work.
TeeChip, based out of Fremont, California, and when we reached out to them for comment, we were told to reach out to their sister company OOShirts. When we reached out to OOShirts for comment, they referred us back to TeeChip. What we did learn is that OOShirts does have an email to deal with copyright (copyright@ooshirts.com) and TeeChip has an escalations department (510-431-2744 / escalations@teechip.com)
At the time, this article was published Facebook, and the FBI had yet to respond to our inquiry.
If you are an artist that has had his or her artwork used by “Marvel and DC For Me” without your permission file a report wth the Federal Bureau of Investigation Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
After watching the Supergirl pilot, the only conclusion that can possibly be reached is we need to make room for another hero in our lives. Not every viewer will agree with this because, as it seems right now, we are besieged on the big and small screen with every superhero imaginable. Yet, just a few minutes into the Supergirl pilot, it was obvious that CBS has a hit on its hands. Maybe it has something to do with Greg Berlanti (who already has launched Arrow and the Flash for the CW network) being behind this series? Truthfully, the messages of self discovery and female empowerment were the most eye opening aspecs of this series debut. What held it together was the completely wonderful performance of Melissa Benoist. Who ever made the decision to cast her in the lead role for this series deserves kudos; it was her infectious charm that was clincher.
Kara Zor-EL, known on earth as Kara Danvers, was sent on a mission from Krypton to protect her baby cousin (Superman), but her ship got side tracked. By the time she reached Earth, Superman had grownup and no longer needed help. She tries to fit in by working at a newspaper conglomerate (sound familiar), while ignoring the romantic overtures of her friend Winn ( Jeremy Jordan) and possibly having a mad crush on her bosses latest hire, James Olsen (yes… it’s that James Olsen), who’s played by Mehcad Brooks. Even with everything going on, Kara feels hallow and wants to be something more, and when her sister (Chyler Leigh) is facing doom, she seizes the opportunity.
The plot of the pilot is simple, and justly so. The most important job this pilot has to do is establish Kara’s background story and set up who she’ll be facing. This was executed seamlessly and done in such a way that it will leave the viewers ready for episode two.
The cast was spot on, top to bottom. The audience will need to keep an eye out for a couple of cameos in the first ten minutes that will bring a smile to any Superhero fans’ face. Mechad Brooks and Jeremy Jordan are perfect in supporting roles, but again all of this would be one big one dumpster fire if it wasn’t for the performance of Melissa Benoist. In order for this show to work, it needed to have the right person in the title role or Supergirl would be gone faster than a speeding bullet. She is the reason why the pilot was successful and why this show will be around for the foreseeable future. Supergirl is a show that families and super fans around the world will love.
Episode 3 ‘Thank You’ of the sixth season of AMC’s The Walking Dead had one of the biggest shockers of an ending in recent seasons. The episode was so crazy that showrunner Scott M. Gimple released a statement on The Talking Dead.
Spoilers are forthcoming, turn back now!
“Dear fans of The Walking Dead, this is a hard story to tell and when we were planning to tell we knew our friends at the Talking Dead would be talking to you about it and knowing you’d all be talking, and feeling and commiserating, I knew we should say something about it lest our silence say something we didn’t mean to say or not say. So I’ll say this: In some way, we will see Glenn, some version of Glenn or parts of Glenn again, either in flashback or in the current story to help complete the story,” said Gimple.
Do you think Glenn died last night?
Steven Yeun is still filming the second half of this season and to kill off a main character with such little fanfare would be a disservice to the series. The Hollywood Reporter is saying that say that Yeun recently signed a new deal to remain on the show which would indicate that he is alive as well.
From the teaser to next week’s episode ‘Here’s Not Here’ it looks like fans will not get many answers about Glenn as it appears to be about Morgan and how he found the group.
AMC even released the scene in question on Youtube to further fuel the speculation. Watch with caution…
Check out the latest images from anti-hero, action film Suicide Squad which were released by Empire Magazine.
The film is directed by Ayer and stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Oscar winner Jared Leto as the Joker, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.
Ben Affleck’s Batman will be featured in the film as this will be a follow-up to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
I’m just counting the days until Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5.
I’ve given Comet Lucifer four chances now to really grab me and be interesting. I think that’s a fair amount. Alas, its four episodes in and it really doesn’t feel like its gone anywhere or feels like its going anywhere. The sad part is that it’s so painstakingly average that bashing the shit out of it isn’t even fun. Don’t worry though, I’ll try to make it as interesting as possible. Because though it may sound bad I haven’t fully given up on it yet.
Episode Summary
They start to fix the huge hole that Moura left in the roof in episode two. A huge typhoon is on its way and Don Mon freaks out about it. Everyone has a barbecue and has fun. Sogo and Kaon have to go to school, leaving Felia alone. While she’s alone Alfried and his gang capture her.
Episode Thoughts
One of the hardest part about coming up with stuff to write about Comet Lucifer is that nothing really happens to write about. At least nothing really positive. So instead of doing a things I liked and things I didn’t like format, I’m just going to go over all the problems I had with this episode. Sure I’m being a little impartial, but I’m at the point where I need to make this fun or else I won’t make it to the end of this stupid show. Keep in mind I’m still remaining optimistic but I don’t know for how long I can hold on.
So lets start with the typhoon. To me it’s another way to try to make tension that fails because we have no groundwork to make us care. Maybe if we knew even a hint about Do Mon’s past it would be concerning, but we don’t. It just looks stupid and pointless. Same goes for the barbecue, as far as I’m concerned the only reason they had that was to try to get as many characters together so you would remember who was who. It didn’t really serve any purpose, which is fine if the rest of your episode is going anywhere, but Comet Lucifer isn’t.
Everything that Afried and his gang did besides kidnap Felia was boring. I really didn’t think it would be as easy as “find her on a camera” but I guess it was. So now they know where she is and keep referring to her by a name that still means nothing to us. Also I find it stupid that Felia was captured as easily as she was. Do Mon was an idiot for thinking she could be left alone. Sogo and Kaon on the other hand are just stupid for deciding to go to school. Am I the only one who would be trying to figure out whats going on with this girl instead of going on with my everyday life?
The only hint of progression was the kidnapping of course, and Sogo and Felia’s little telepathy when she was in danger. Also Felia for some reason is attached to Sogo now. I was under the impression that she was being best friends with Kaon, but whatever. Sogo also had some half-character development when he talked about his parents or whatever. For now just useless information, which I’m sure will pay off later, but you gotta keep me interested enough to get to that point. Which Comet Lucifer isn’t.
For all the stupid things that happen in Comet Lucifer I still like the show on two merits. One is that is absolutely nuts in the way it ties plot lines together. Its like watching someone try to do cats cradle that has no idea what they’re doing. The other is Felia’s cuteness. Normally this wouldn’t be enough for me to continue watching, but I do want to see how crazy Comet Lucifer will end up. Hopefully you guys will join me on the ride.
Arrow stars Emily Bett Rickards and Colton Haynes got their Halloween on with a guest appearances from Chloe Bennet from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Austin Nichols from The Walking Dead.
Haynes put some solid work into his Ursula costume from The Little Mermaid. Rickards will turn some heads as Sailor Moon. Nichols gave fans a 70s reboot of Dirty Hair and Bennet was a sexy grocery bag?
The crew took tons of photos and were very proud of their costumes.
Back in August, during Wizard World Comic Con Chicago, Nathan Fillion said that he would be up for playing Booster Gold, the charismatic, and egotistical superhero from the future. Of course despite the awesomeness of Nathan Fillion, most of just assumed that this was just a fun little joke that would never see the light of day.
However, it didn’t stop most of us from thinking that if there was going to be a Booster Gold movie, it would have to have Blue Beetle. And it would be a lot of fun to see Fillion’s costar, Alan Tudyk, from Firefly and their latest series Con Man together as the original superhero bros. But again, this was something we never thought was going to happen.
Never say never my friends.
Soon after Fillion’s desire to play Booster Gold, reports came in of a Booster Gold Blue Beetle movie was in development. Casting ideas, and rumors ran out the gate, but people began to wonder, if Nathan Fillion was on board would his pal and costar Alan Tudyk be up for it also. Well at New York Comic Con Tudyk gave his two cents on the matter.
“Well, that’s great. If it’s working with Nathan, I’m in,” Tudyk said of the fan support, adding, “Also, being a bug for me? I’d like that. Roly-poly is nice. I’d like to be one of them. That’s what we called them back in Texas, but they’re almost a beetle.”
If this is the future of Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, than this is going to be an amazing movie, and I personally can’t wait to see these two banter off each other next to the Justice League in the DC Exteded Universe.
But, what do you guys think? Are Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk your choices for Booster Gold and Blue Beetle? Or do you have other people in mind?
The 1982 horror classic that made kids afraid of toy clowns and television static certainly has made its way into popular culture. It has some of the most memorable lines in cinema, iconic imagery, and was even parodied in Family Guy. Poltergeist is a movie that has a particular effect that results in most people knowing about the movie, even if they’ve never seen it.
However, despite the movie being considered a fantastic horror movie and a staple of 80s awesomeness, the question remains: does it still hold up? The concept of the horror movie has changed so radically since Poltergeist that the film may not have the same impact as it once did. Particularly with gore-fests like Saw and Hostel. I recently had the chance to see the original again on the big screen, and to my surprise, not only did this movie succeed as a horror movie, but it surpassed my expectations.
This killer clown is scarier than the Joker.
Spoilers below.
For those of you who don’t know, the film centers around a typical suburban family living in a newly developed neighborhood. They play games, watch TV, look forward to their new pool, and have all the bickering moments a regular family is expected to have. They just happen to live in a haunted house with a Poltergeist.
The movie has an awesome beginning with the late Heather O’Rourke sitting in front of the static of the living room TV. The white glow is the only light in the room as the little girl’s silhouette is front and center of the shot. This genuinely disturbing moment sets up the movie brilliantly, as the film’s terrifying atmosphere is built up through mood and setting. There are very few jump scares and most of the movie has a quiet build up through setting the scene. This way when a jump scare does happen, it’s all the more exciting.
Fun fact: The skeletons used here were real!
The strength really comes from the family element. Craig T. Nelson, and Jobeth Williams look like they’re playing real parents, when their daughter is missing they both look horrible and disheveled. Nelson in particular has huge bags under his eyes and a five o’clock shower. And this sense of family doesn’t just extend to the parents, the other two children definitely fit the bill of a real family. This allows the audience to really connect with them, and fear for them.
The other characters that come in are also very memorable, but none exceed the awesomeness of Zelda Rubinstein as Tangina the medium. There’s just something so funny and bizarre about this tiny woman ghost hunter who’s a total bad ass command everyone with such aggression. She steals every scene she’s in and has some of the best lines ever. The whole camera could be on her, and the movie would be just as entertaining. The strength of the writing and the acting shows based entirely on how memorable these characters are, and how each one reacts to the unexplained.
The most bad ass ghost hunter of all time!
Now, like all movies, Poltergeist isn’t perfect. As I said earlier, there aren’t a lot of jump scares, and there’s a few slow moments. This allows more mood to set in, but I’d be lying if I said that it was always done right. There are a few times when a jump scare would have been welcome to liven up the movie a bit. And while the practical effects are still amazing, the animated effects look cheap by today’s standard, and a don’t really do a good job setting the mood.
And there are some plot holes that don’t seem to make any sense. For example, when the construction workers start laying out the foundation, wouldn’t they have found some of the bodies? Also, how come only the little girl can hear the ghosts? Maybe the latter was answered in the sequel, but in this movie it’s really confusing about why she can hear the ghosts.
That being said, Poltergeist leaves a stronger impression than most of the more recent horror films. And that all comes from the family aspect. The audience cares so much about this family’s survival, because they show how much they care for each other.
Halloween is just around the corner, and this is definitely a movie to watch to get in the season.
The Good Dinosaur comes out on November 25 from Pixar and the animation studio has made a tradition of releasing short films before their main features. This year Pixar is releasing Sanjay’s Super Team directed by Sanjay Patel.
In “Sanjay’s Super Team,” accomplished artist Sanjay Patel uses his own experience to tell the story of a young, first-generation Indian-American boy whose love for western pop culture comes into conflict with his father’s traditions. Sanjay is absorbed in the world of cartoons and comics, while his father tries to draw him into the traditions of his Hindu practice. Tedium and reluctance quickly turn into an awe-inspiring adventure as the boy embarks on a journey he never imagined, returning with a new perspective that they can both embrace.
Pixar released some images from the short to accompany the clip they released earlier in October.
