The official trailer for Wonder Woman is here. Check it out below.

The trailer was shown at the Warner Bros. Hall H panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con International, and then released on the Warner Bros. Youtube channel.

“Wonder Woman hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.”

Brew Review: Rubicon Brewing Company’s First Contact Pale Ale

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Like a lot of people growing up in Northern California in the 90s, my first exposure to craft beer was a little elixir known as Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Unlike a lot of people in Northern California… I hated it. I still don’t like it. In fact, I disliked it so much it turned me off completely from Pale Ales.

Flash forward a few years and I finally met a Pale Ale I actually liked: Rubicon Brewing Company‘s Monkey Knife Fight. Aside from the great name, it was just really good. So when Rubicon released a new Pale Ale called First Contact I had to give it a try. It also seemed fitting to try it the same weekend the new Star Trek movie hit theaters.

AROMA

The first thing you notice about this beer is just how good it smells. There is a hoppy aroma to it, but it’s more floral than your traditional hop- filled brew. Really, one of the best smelling beers I’ve had in a while.

APPEARANCE

The label is kitschy complete with an alien made out of hops. It might make it hard to take the beer seriously, which would be too bad. On the flip side, it did stand out from the other labels on the shelf so I guess it did its job.

The beer itself is a rich, golden, caramel color with a slight head.

FLAVOR

Smooth. That’s the word that came to mind during my first sip. I always felt like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale tasted skunky and bitter. First Contact was neither of those things.

The great aroma translated into a Pale Ale had a really nice flavor. While it doesn’t have the hoppy punch of Monkey Knife Fight, First Contact is a nice alternative Pale Ale in Rubicon’s beer arsenal.

‘BoJack Horseman’ Renewed For Season Four

Monkeys Fighting Robots

It was only yesterday when Netflix’s acclaimed animated series BoJack Horseman returned for its third season, but the streaming site doesn’t like to waste time. It was announced that the binge-friendly program will return a fourth season, presumably to air sometime next year. Prepare the drinks!

The news came from the character’s official Twitter page, stating simply that “guys. season 4… is happening!” They also addressed his fans with some noteworthy hashtags, most notably #ibingedtoohardlastnight. Although show creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg is in higher demand than ever these days, particularly as the new screenwriter behind The Lego Movie Sequel and also the author behind an upcoming short story collection entitled Someone Who Will Love You in All Your Damaged Glory: Bang-Your-Knee, Bust-Your-Heart-Open Love Stories, it looks like he’s not too busy to keep his beloved series going strong. Hopefully that won’t impact the quality of his stellar series, but I don’t see that being the case.

Details are slim at the moment, as they usually are, but it’s safe to assume that this will be another 12-episode season, and that Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Paul F. Tompkins, Aaron Paul and Amy Sedaris will return to the recording booth, along with a boatload of celebrity cameos. I’m still behind on the third season, unfortunately, but I’m told it’s the best one to date — and that’s certainly not an easy feat. I’m planning to check it out sooner than later, however, and this is some very, very encouraging news — especially if the finale is as bleak as some have made it out to be …

Here’s the tweet announcement, via Twitter:

Director Adam Wingard Turns ‘The Woods’ Into ‘Blair Witch’

Monkeys Fighting Robots

The Woods’ Is Now A Sequel To ‘The Blair Witch Project’!

Bad-ass Adam Wingard somehow kept this under the radar to most. Turning his project ‘The Woods‘ into a sequel to ‘The Blair Witch Project‘ is a bold move but something I’ve come to expect from the underrated filmmaker. Surprising viewers with shorts in both V/H/S films AND ‘The ABC’s Of Death‘, he’s also released two great features titled ‘The Guest‘ and ‘You’re Next‘.

Lionsgate officially announced ‘The Woods‘, releasing September 16th, will now be called ‘Blair Witch‘. This has to be one of sneakiest moves in Hollywood history. Horror website Bloody Disgusting broke news that the film was possibly a sequel a while back but the studio kept hush. Not willing to break under pressure, Lionsgate and director Adam Wingard waited until they felt ready.

What can we expect from the follow-up to the iconic Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick film? I hope something better than ‘Blair Witch 2: Book Of Shadows‘. Written by a long-time Wingard collaborator Simon Barrett, many are calling this one of the scariest movies ever. ‘Blair Witch‘ promises to respect the older film while moving forward with a new story.

“A group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James’ sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first, the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.”

Review: ‘Steven Universe’: Beach City Drift: Initial S

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Steven and Connie battle their biggest foe in a car race

Connie returns for the first time in a while. Together she and Steven fuse once again and become Stevonnie so they can enter a race again Kevin, the creepy guy who hit on them the last time they fused. Not exactly the best use of magical powers but still at least Connie is back.

The theme of this episode is a really poignant one about not letting the negative people in life get the better of you. Often people obsess over those who have made them feel awkward or caused them grief. In an effort to take revenge against them, a person will often travel down a road they don’t want just to prove them wrong or humiliate them in some way. This is a unnecessary use of one’s time and energy which could be used to do something you enjoy.

The episode is also a great homage to Initial D, an anime series about drift racing. The talk by Ronaldo about the hidden power of the car is similar to how many characters in Initial D talk about the hidden power of the main character’s car. It really is a pretty great series with a great soundtrack to it.

Okay Steven Universe, let’s talk. Yes there have been a lot of great and emotional character episode since this marathon started but enough is enough. A little action, some battle, or at least a bit more adventure would be nice in the upcoming week. It’s not so hard to ask for a fight against a giant monster ever once in awhile is it?

Review: ‘Steven Universe’: The New Lars: Awkward Transference

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Steven analyzes Lars’ life.

Steven jumps into Lars’ body and takes him out for a spin. This could have been a great opportunity to show Lars as a character who is dealing with something secretly or has trouble at home which is why he is always so aloof. Instead, it shows he has great parents and if he actually opened up to people he would have a lot more fun in life. He simply just doesn’t wish to apply himself.

This episode is hard to watch at times. Steven controlling Lars feels like watching a relative trying to act cool but you know they are being embarrassing. Also, him insisting Sadie and Lars need to get together is getting a bit too forceful. You can’t make people fall in love Steven, even if you are possessing them.

The episode does try and hint at the idea their may actually be hope for the Lars and Sadie relationship but the more it’s flushed out do fans even want it? Sadie a great girl with a lot of charm to her and Lars is distant and cold because he thinks it’s cool. Why do fans like this pairing so much? The girl could do better, really.

Hopefully the next episode will have some action because episode really was a bit bland. Also, why does Sadie have a documentary of Caligula on her shelf? There’s a question which will probably never get an answer.

Grindstone Amber Ale from Broadhead Brewing Co. – A Broad Review

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Ottawa, Canada’s capital, is home to Canada’s House of Commons and Senate. It’s also home to Broadhead Brewing Company. As Broadhead’s website describes, this microbrewery grew out of Josh Larocque and Shane Matte’s starry-eyed dream (consumption of home-made beer may have been involved). But, unlike most alcohol-fueled visions, Larocque and Matte’s proved not only financially feasible but also tasty. Their long-term goal of making a rap video yet unrealized, the bearded brewers will have to continue to slug it out, producing tasty brews for a few more years at least. Starting in a basement and expanding to a literally homemade brewery, Broadhead is the epitome of independence. I grabbed a couple tall cans of Broadhead’s Grindstone Amber Ale at my local liquor store. Here’s what I thought …

Grindstone Amber Ale – First Sip

Grindstone Amber Ale is a dark and cloudy beer. Pushing the limits of the word “amber” Grindstone is a semi-opaque brown. A delicate layer of head forms at the top of my glass as I pour, but it diffuses quickly. I smell lemon as I take my first swig of Grindstone, and taste lots of malty caramel flavour. Grindstone Amber Ale’s cans advertise a balanced bitter-sweet finish. Balanced is one word for it, I suppose, but I barely notice anything.

Grindstone Amber Ale – Last Sip

I don’t think I’ve ever said this before, but I prefer this beer from the can. I find that when I drink Grindstone from a glass the lemony smell is overpowering: its strong lemon scent seems unnatural, and makes me think of a household cleaner. Instead, when I drink Grindstone from the can, its lemony aroma, acting as an enhancement of its flavour rather than as a smell, brings out the bitter-sweet finish I missed earlier when I drank it from a glass.

Star Trek Pays Tribute to Yelchin at SDCC

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Before the screening of Star Trek Beyond at San Diego Comic-Con Wednesday night, the cast paid tribute to the Anton Yelchin.

Yelchin, who played Chekov in the rebooted series, was killed last month in a freak auto accident.

“As wonderful as this is to be here with all of you, and to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, there is something wrong tonight,” said producer J.J. Abrams, Entertainment Weekly reported. “There is something missing tonight; there is someone missing tonight.

“Anton Yelchin should be here. Anton’s parents are here — Irina and Victor. We love their son, and if I could ask everyone to have a moment of silence for our dear friend, Anton.”

In Star Trek Beyond, Chekov spends a good deal of time with Kirk after they’re forced to abandon ship. Consequently, Yelchin gets more screen time in his final appearance than in the previous films.

Fourth film slated

A fourth Star Trek film is already in the works. In the upcoming movie, Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role from the first reboot as Kirk’s father.

Abrams has said that Chekov would not be recast. He wouldn’t say whether the character would be killed off, however. It was, he said, too early to decide on Chekov’s in-universe fate.

Star Trek Beyond opens today nationwide.
