‘The Flash’-Dr. Alchemy Revealed? EP Greg Berlanti Answers!

Monkeys Fighting Robots

thdfv80jim

When do we find out the identity of Dr. Alchemy? Executive Producer Greg Berlanti has the answers we are looking for!

This season, Team Flash has been dealing with Dr. Alchemy, who has been going around restoring powers to the Flashpoint meta-humans who lost their powers from the alternate timeline.

So, when do we get to know who the mystery doctor is? According to Berlanti, sooner than we expect according to my source.

“People will have seen him before the crossovers,” Berlanti shared. “He appears in episodes 6 and 7.”

Not only do we have Dr. Alchemy to worry about, we have an evil speedster who goes by Savitar, who has the power to steal speed from others, as well as lend speed out.

After the loss of his father, and nothing making sense, Barry went back in time to try to live a life in an alternate universe Flashpoint.

In Flashpoint, Barry lives with both his parents, has a good relationship blooming with Iris, basically everything he’s ever wanted. Although, his friends, Central City and everything he knows is falling apart.

Upon returning, Barry realizes the mess he has made, and can’t undo the bad without more bad coming to him and Team Flash.

Savitar is one of those bads, who has followed Barry to the present timeline and is wreaking havoc.

With the four-part cross over event starting on November 28th with ‘Supergirl’, ‘Arrow’, ‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’, and ‘The Flash’, we get to see all the super hero meta-humans together and kicking ass.

Who else is looking forward to Team Flash learning Dr. Alchemy’s secret? If anyone can take him down, it’s this crew.

‘The Flash’ stars Danielle Panabaker, Jesse L. Martin, Candace Patton, Carlos Valdez, Tom Cavanaugh, and Grant Gustin.

‘The Flash’ airs on Tuesday nights 8/7c on the CW.

‘ARROW’ 100th Episode Death? Mark Guggenheim Wants “Everyone Scared.”

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Hitting 100 Episodes this year, ‘Arrow’ Executive Producer Mark Guggenheim hints at character death!

100 episodes is a pivotal point for any television show, most importantly one that can make a huge impact on the entire show. In the comic book world, it can do the same, making a change in the story arc, adding or taking away.

Lately, it has been the 100th episode has been a way to kill off one of the most beloved and important characters. We see our favorites die in cruel and unusual ways and ‘Arrow’ is no exception according to my source.

“You know me, I always want everyone worried.” Guggenheim boasts.

“Feels like the 100th issue of a comic book, perhaps even more so than the 100th episode of a television show.” He continues. Perhaps good news for the fans?

Guggenheim is vague and cryptic, but that makes us just want the episode more. The anticipation of losing a main character is a terrifying one, especially after the ‘Walking Dead’.

Because the episode sneaks in the middle of the four-part crossover event “Invasion” which features Supergirl, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, we get all the action along with the long awaited episode.

flash-vs-arrow-tv-series_1960217279

The event begins on November 28th.

Since the appearance of old characters that will be popping up, rumors have spread that the Waverider from Legends of Tomorrow will be used to travel and forth in time.

Also, with the sight of John Diggles son, Connor Hawke, is it possible we could see the death of Oliver Queen? Could we get the replacement for the Green Arrow?

Due to all the heroes meeting, teaming up, and kicking ass, the possibilities really are endless.

Most of all, congrats on making it to 100 Arrow, here’s to 100 more!

‘Arrow’ stars Emily Bett Rickards, Willa Holland, David Ramsey, and Stephen Amell.

100th episode premieres on November 30th at 8/7c on the CW.

‘Jurassic World’ Sequel Starts Shooting In March

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Jurassic World was a massive success, so work on the sequel has been in progress since the original was in theaters. Speaking on that topic, director J.A. Bayona revealed when they start shooting the film.

“We’re working it already and shooting starts in March.”

The director then talked about his personal vision for the movie.

“Every story is different and you need to find the depth of every story and try to express it on the screen. The Jurassic World sequel is a more collaborative filmmaker experience, not only with Colin Trevorrow, but also with Steven [Spielberg] and with Frank Marshall. It’s their baby as much as it is mine. It’s about sharing views and working together to bring the story to life. But, at the same time, the way I face telling a story is to find something very personal. I think there will be plenty of myself also in the film.”

What are your thoughts on his comments? Sound off in the coments section.

Jurassic World 2 hits theaters on June 22, 2018.

Monkeys Fighting Robots

A trailer for the live action Ghost In The Shell movie has surfaced on-line. The film, directed by Rupert Saunders (Snow White and The Hunstman) and starring Scarlett Johansson, has been followed by controversy since the beginning for accusations of Hollywood “white washing”. All that aside, watching this trailer, it’s hard to argue that it doesn’t at least look visually arresting and faithful to its source material.  You can watch the trailer below.

Review: ‘Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable’: Episode 32 & 33

Monkeys Fighting Robots

SPOILER ALERT

July 15th (Thurs), Part 2

This episode has a lot going on all at once and really helps to accelerate the main story. First off, Josuke has to deal with taking on Superfly. It’s once again handled thanks to a creative use of Shining Diamond’s healing abilities. Also, despite being a very violent enemy, the team lets him go with just a warning. Apparently, you have to maliciously kill someone to earn death in this anime. At least at the hands of one of the protagonists.

Elsewhere, Rohan thinks something’s not right with the architect, Masazo Kinoto who goes to extreme measures to make sure no one sees his back. Measures such as ascending the stairs with a crab walk. When someone is willing to go to such lengths to prevent you from looking at their back, you can’t help blame Rohan from being a bit curious.

Once Josuke realizes he needs to hurry if he wants to find Koichi, he decides to call upon a former enemy for help. Enter Yuya Fungami and his intense sense of smell who are brought into the picture to help track the kidnapper down. They soon find him but find he’s much more than they can handle.

This episode is a great bit of action without giving much away about what is going on. The mystery behind Masazo and the kidnapper keeps the watcher glued to their set and curious about what will happen next.

July 15th (Thurs), Part 3

A part three? When this series has gone to a part three in the storyline it can only mean one thing: the battle is truly intense and the heroes are being pushed to their limits. Picking up right where the previous episode ended, things get worse for our heroes very quickly. First off Rohan finds Masazo was a Stand user but even he didn’t know it. The Stand, Cheap Trap, is a being which is totally independent and exists by clinging to the back of his opponents. It hasn’t displayed many other powers other than simply whispering into Rohan’s ear over and over. Though it’s not hard to see how such behavior would get annoying.

The real showstealer this episode comes with Yuya and his decision to help Josuke fight Miyamoto. Instead of simply letting Miyamoto get away he instead decides to step up and tries to save the day. It becomes surprising sometimes with Shonen series when it comes to reformed characters. Just when you think they will never make a turn around they do something which makes you actually feel for them and are glad they are truly try to fight for justice.

The preview for the next one shows there will be a part four. This is a battle which is truly pushing the team to the edge. Will the team be able to make it out of this one alive or will

Director Of 2016’s ‘The Witch’ Opens Up About ‘Nosferatu’ Remake

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Director Robert Eggers Nervously Takes On Nosferatu!

After surprise 2016 hit ‘The Witch‘, Robert Eggers confirms he will be heading a remake of the iconic horror film ‘Nosferatu‘. In an interview with Indiewire, Eggers opens up about how he is carefully taking on the project.

“[It’s shocking] to me. It feels ugly and blasphemous and egomaniacal and disgusting for a filmmaker in my place to do Nosferatu next,” Eggers admitted. “I was really planning on waiting a while, but that’s how fate shook out.”

Robert Eggers already has experience with F.W. Murnau’s 1922 classic. He directed a stage production of ‘Nosferatu‘ at age 17. His life-long obsession with the German film has now come full circle now.

The Witch‘ showcased his ability for minimal horror and focus on building tension. That is something he will surely bring to this remake. Will it be another independent film like his previous film or take on a bigger budget?

Eggers went on to explain his connection to the piece during the Indiewire interview:

Nosferatu has a very close, magical connection for me. Though if I were to make the movie 17-year-old Rob was going to make of Nosferatu it would have been something between like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Sin City, whereas this is going to be the same approach as The Witch, where 1830s Biedermeier Baltic Germany needs to be articulated in a way that seems real.

There is no other news about the project. The casting of this film will be important as whoever fills in the lead role has to follow up Max Schreck.

The story of the film follows the vampire Count Orlok; an unofficial adaptation of the Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Nosferatu‘ remake is produced by Jay Van Hoy and Lars Knudsen.

Are you excited for the remake of ‘Nosferatu‘?

Stay tuned to Monkeys Fighting Robots for more updates!

Karma Citra IPA from Great Lakes Brewery – A Karmic Review

Monkeys Fighting Robots

With all of the uncertainty in the world, this week I’m reviewing a beer that I’m confident I, at least, will appreciate. Frequent readers of my reviews know that I’m a big fan of IPAs, APAs, and CPAs. So, when I saw Great Lakes Brewery‘s Karma Citra IPA, part of the brewery’s Tank Ten series, on the shelf at my local LCBO, I figured it was time for a “comfort beer”. I previously reviewed Great Lakes Brewery’s Canuck Pale Ale, so check out that review for information about the brewery. Now, before I’m reborn as something that can’t drink beer, let’s see how Karma Citra IPA compares to other IPAs I’ve had over my many lifetimes.

Karma Citra IPA: Great Lakes Brewery – First Sip

Karma Citra IPA pours a very cloudy straw-yellow colour with a thick layer of foam that dissipates slowly. Looking almost like apple cider, this brew defies you to look through it. Citra hops, which this IPA is brewed with, are a particular favourite of brewers looking to impart a citrus or tropical fruit flavour to their beers. As such, Karma Citra IPA has a citrus aroma that I notice as soon as I open its 473 mL can. Its great smell is good company for its bitter grain and pine flavour that fades to a subtle aftertaste of malt. Karma Citra’s mouthfeel is viscous but fizzy, providing a surprisingly crisp quality to this cloudy brew.

Karma Citra IPA: Great Lakes Brewery – Last Sip

I suggest drinking this cloudy brew from a nonic pint glass, as prescribed by the can. Although you won’t miss out on its noticeable citrus aroma, you will miss its cloudy straw-yellow colour.

In the interest of science, I tried drinking this beer straight from the can. Drinking from the can didn’t make this brew bad, but without its constant aroma and cloudy colour I felt like I was missing out. Like Great Lakes Brewery’s website, I suggest enjoying this beer with an Indian curry, but some jalapeño chips will also do nicely.

Review: ‘Arrival’ Science Fiction With a Refreshing and Beautiful Twist

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival is the first film of 2016 that caught me off guard. It’s not often that a movie that appears to be about extraterrestrials can go in an entirely different direction with a twist that’s equally refreshing and beautiful. Anyone who thinks this film is just a typical science fiction picture will be pleasantly surprised.

Arrival is based on Ted Chaing’s Story of Your Life. This movie is about an alien invasion where no shots are ever fired or land ever conquered. About a dozen alien spacecraft appear out nowhere and just hover over the earth’s surface. These Aliens invite the humans on board two times a day by opening up an antigravity door.

arrival

Tension is high, and the people of Earth are already assuming the worst about our new visitors. In many people’s minds, this is the beginning of the end, and very few feel there’s a way out of this that doesn’t involve violence.

Dr. Louise Banks (Amy Adams) doesn’t share that same sentiment. Dr. Banks is of the opinion that once we can figure out how to communicate with our alien visitors that we can find a way to achieve some common ground. Col. Weber (Forest Whitaker) doesn’t share her optimism. Weber doesn’t see how being able to decipher their language which appears to be nothing more than inkblots will lead to any resolution that doesn’t involve military action. Banks’ intellect is her greatest ally as she works to understand this alien language while battling depression stemming from an incident occurring in the first ten minutes of the film.

Theoretical physicist Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner) joins Weber’s quest to decipher the aliens language. Donnelly and Banks are not portrayed as rivals and are more partners in their pursuit. While all of this is transpiring, the aliens haven’t made any attempt to be aggressive. However, Russia and China aren’t taking any chances are preparing military strikes to take out

One of the highlights of this film was the work of Cinematographer Bradford Young. Young, whose love of natural light was certainly evident when he shot Selma, places emphasis on character in Arrival and it elevated the overall quality of the film. He understands that this film is about the human condition; thus we see more shots of Dr. Banks and Mr. Donnelly than we do of any spacecraft.

Amy Adams is remarkable in the role of Dr. Banks. Her portrayal is a mixture of both strength and introspection. Her performance ranks right up there with Jessica Chastain in Interstellar and Sandra Bullock Gravity. While Adams certainly shine the brightest, Jeremy Renner and Forrest Whittaker deliver powerful performances as well.

Eric Heisserer showed great precision in adapting the source material for the screen. Heisserer (who most recently wrote the screenplay for Lights Out) made the tiniest of changes that impacted the film both thematically and in overall quality. For Example, In Ted Chaing’s Story Of Your Life, the aliens don’t ever make it to Earth and only communicate with Dr. Banks via a Video monitor. Heisserer tweaked the original narrative and had those aliens make it all the way to Earth. First off, this significantly improved the dramatic tone of the film. Secondly, it shined a great light on humanity as well. How would we react if alien visitors just showed up one day? Would you want the government just to blow them out of the sky or would you want to achieve an understanding of their intentions? Furthermore, how is it different than how many Americans treat people who are “different” in 2016?

Arrival shows us how powerful language and understanding each other can be, no matter where we are from. A lesson that certainly rings true now more than ever.
