Doctor Strange Confirmed To Appear In ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

Monkeys Fighting Robots

In a 2017 preview article on D23.com it was revealed that the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Doctor Strange, will be officially appearing in Thor: Ragnarok.

Here’s the direct quote on the subject:

“Thor: Ragnarok in November brings together Thor, the Hulk, and Doctor Strange to face off against intergalactic baddies both familiar and new.”

We already expected this based on the end of Doctor Strange, but it’s nice to have confirmation now.

With Hulk, Doctor Strange, and Thor, this movie will surely be a spectacle to rival other massive Marvel films.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.

Marco Beltrami Scoring ‘Logan’

Monkeys Fighting Robots

In a Twitter conversation by a fan and James Mangold, it was revealed that Marco Beltrami, who scored The Wolverine, is also scoring the upcoming Logan.

Cliff Martinez was originally set to score Logan, but it looks as thought that changed at some point during post-production.

Along with the previous Wolverine film, Beltrami has worked on The Shallows, World War Z, The Hurt Locker, and many other notable releases over the last decade.

Logan is the last outing for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. It also stars Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier for likely the last time, and introduces us to Laura Kinney, played by Dafne Keen.

2017’s Least Anticipated Films

Monkeys Fighting Robots

As a film critic, it’s important to remain open minded when you walk into any screening. However, it would be disingenuous if we didn’t disclose that the anticipation of seeing some releases is about on par with getting audited by the IRS. So I sat down, looked at the calendar for 2017, and came up with the five film releases that are the least anticipated releases during the new year.

5. Pitch Perfect 3Least Anticipated Films

What exactly is left for these Bellas to accomplish? We’ve seen Anna Kendrick and her crew conquer both the collegiate and the international acapella singing circuit (eye roll). Maybe they go pro this time? How can the narrative of the third film go in any sort of plausible direction?

4.The Emoji Movie

So now Hollywood is officially out of ideas and has resorted to creating a film based on the symbols we use on our phone. Really? What’s sad is that it’s being released the first week of August and will stand a real shot at being the #1 movie in America that week.

3.Fifty Shades Darker

Just when you thought America’s scars were starting to heal, it seems we are getting a Fifty Shades of Grey sequel. While it’s not shocking that they are releasing a sequel (it made 571 million dollars domestically), that doesn’t mean this film will be any more palatable than the first one. In the absence of any sort of narrative, I would expect to see more nude scenes involving the film’s two stars (Oh Joy).

2. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales

Must we go back to the well once more? Again this is all about ticket sales as Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides made 241 million dollars domestically. That doesn’t mean the film is anything close to resembling a quality film, it just means there is a demand for Johnny Depp to put on that ridiculous Captain Jack outfit once more.

1.Justice League

Now before anyone accuses me of being a hater of DC films, let me remind everyone that I was one of the few people who wrote a decent review for Batman v Superman. My issues with Justice League stems equally from both Zack Snyder and the interference with the studio. Snyder has demonstrated an affinity for showing little respect for the rich history of these iconic DC characters. They say change is good but too much change can deter from the enjoyment of the film. Speaking of change, the negative response to DC’s 2016 release has lead to changes in the film (some coming from the studio directly). All this change seems to be taking this film down a path of inconsistency that could be spell doom.

Final Thoughts

Nothing would make me happier than to be wrong about all five of these films and for the final products to be something that I can recommend to everyone. However, as it stands right now, the evidence seems to point in a different direction. What do you guys think? Let me know and leave your comments.

Director Taika Waititi Says ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Is “What It Needs To Be”

Monkeys Fighting Robots

With 2016 coming to a close, it is time to look to the future and potentially great movies to come in the next 12 months. One of those movies, Thor: Ragnarok will see the return of the fan-favorite Marvel character alongside his mischievous brother Loki and the Incredible Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok

In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, producer Brad Winderbaum and director Taika Waititi discussed the different aspects of Thor in this movie, confirming that Ragnarok will be an all-out cosmic adventure.

Winderbaum claims that Thor: Ragnarok is an “intergalactic adventure,” that gives Marvel the opportunity to “try something new and send him off into space in a very linear plot.” Previous Thor movies have seen the character torn between Earth and Asgard. It’s refreshing to see that the next installment of the franchise will take a more cosmic focus which is a corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe only explored in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Discussing the intergalactic weirdness of Thor Winderbaum continued. “And that’s where a lot of fun, trippy stuff that we’re bringing to the screen has come from.”

Director Taika Waititi also discussed what Thor: Ragnarok is trying to achieve. The director claims that the strangeness of the next Thor film will all be worthwhile and necessary for the audience.

“It’s what it needs to be. Especially to live up to a name like Ragnarok, you know? If we’re gonna do Ragnarok, we gotta do it properly. We just gotta throw it all in there.”

Hopefull Waititi can live up to this promise but I don’t think we should be worried. The director is on something of a streak, with this year’s massive hit Hunt For The Wilderpeople and the hilarious What We Do In The Shadows.

Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Idris Elba, Cate Blanchett, and Jeff Goldblum. The film will be released in theaters on October 27, 2017.

Donald Trump, Hamilton, Stranger Things: 2016’s Craziest Moments

Monkeys Fighting Robots

2016 Has Been Called One Of The Craziest Years Ever!

When everything is said and done, 2016 will be known as the craziest year in recent memory. So much has happened since January that most people are crawling their way through December in hopes to get to 2017.

There’s been some amazing albums, memorable TV shows, and polarizing movies but there’s no shortage of not-so-great moments.

The January 10th, 2016 death of David Bowie really kicked off the insanity. Then came the election. That hung over 2016 like a dark cloud and followed everywhere.

Now as 2016 comes to an end, it’s time to reflect on all the drama. Let’s embrace the madness and see the 10 craziest moments of the year.

Honorable Mentions:

– #OscarsSoWhite

– Harambe Meme

– Mass amount of celebrity deaths (Carrie Fisher, David Bowie, Muhammad Ali)

10. Leonardo DiCaprio Finally Wins An Oscar

– Some major losing streaks were been beaten in 2016. One of the most glorious ones is when Leonardo DiCaprio won an Oscar after a much-talked bout losing streak at The Academy Awards. Who knew all it would take was fighting a bear?

9. “Battle of the Bastards” On ‘Game Of Thrones’

– One of the best ‘Game Of Thrones‘ episodes ever, “Battle of the Bastards” is an epic. Critics named it a masterpiece and it’s received a record amount of Emmy nominations. The 25 day production took over 600 crew members to complete.

8. Beyonce’s Lemonade

– When Lemonade by Beyonce dropped, it took over the world. The concept album about a cheating husband caused people all over social media to speculate if there was any truth. Also, the release of lead single “Formation” is a game-changer.

7. The Death Of Prince

– 2016 had too many infamous celebrity deaths. From Fidel Castro to most recently Debbie Reynolds, there’s been some notable loses. No death hit fans as hard the shocking death of Prince did. His musical legacy won’t be forgotten!

6. Pokemon Go

– If you saw someone with their face firmly planted in their phone this year, it’s more than likely that they’re playing Pokemon Go. The anime and video game franchise has been going strong since the 90’s but this is an epic mainstream return.

5. Stranger Things

– It feels like 1980’s Spielberg when you watch ‘Stranger Things’. From the young cast to the heavy science fiction, it takes you back to a better time in the genre but still remains fresh. More than any show this year, this couldn’t be missed!

4. 2016’s ‘Ghostbusters’ vs The Internet

– 2016 will also be known for some of the craziest Internet movie reactions. When ‘Batman v Superman‘ was released, there was an uproar. Nothing could prepare us for the reaction ‘Ghostbusters‘ received. The hate for it is still vicious.

3. ‘Hamilton’ Takes Broadway

– Broadway hasn’t been this cool is a very long time. ‘Hamilton‘ took musical theatre and pop culture by storm. The show turned creator Lin Manuel Miranda into a household name. It’s also an award season favorite with 11 Tonys.

2. The Cubs Break A 108-Year World Series Drought

– You thought Leo Dicaprio beating a losing streak that lasted a few decades is crazy? Imagine being a Chicago Cub and not winning a World Series since 1908. Last time the Cubs won a championship was when Teddy Roosevelt was in office.

1. President Donald Trump

– Typing that still feels like I’m reviewing a 90’s ‘Simpsons’ episode. 2016 is known for a lot but in the record books, this is the year that elected Donald Trump as President Of The United States. He went from pop culture icon to Chief-of-Staff.

Top 5 ‘Anime’ of 2016

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Time to look at the best anime series of 2016. Thanks to an internship this year, this list isn’t as extensive as intended. Popular titles such as Erased, Sweetness and Lightning, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, and Drifters couldn’t be addressed. This is the main reason this list isn’t the “Top 10 Anime of 2016.” Still there were plenty of great titles which deserve recognition this year.

1Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto

Humor in anime is hard. Too many times writers rely on bad puns and references which are lost on the western audiences. This show has the majority of its comedy revolving on one simple premise: Sakamoto is the coolest person on the planet and everything he does is awesome. Though you’d think Sakamoto would come off as a jerk because of this fact, in truth, he just can’t help it. Everything he does is just beyond explanation and his antics will have you laughing uncontrollable. This series truly is one of the funniest comedies in a long time and considering how heavy this year was, everyone needed a good laugh. This is why Sakamoto easily took home the number one spot on this list.

All of these shows can be found at Crunchyroll. What was your favorite series of 2016? Leave a comment below and let us know.
