Director Taika Waititi Says ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Is “What It Needs To Be”

With 2016 coming to a close, it is time to look to the future and potentially great movies to come in the next 12 months. One of those movies, Thor: Ragnarok will see the return of the fan-favorite Marvel character alongside his mischievous brother Loki and the Incredible Hulk.

In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, producer Brad Winderbaum and director Taika Waititi discussed the different aspects of Thor in this movie, confirming that Ragnarok will be an all-out cosmic adventure.

Winderbaum claims that Thor: Ragnarok is an “intergalactic adventure,” that gives Marvel the opportunity to “try something new and send him off into space in a very linear plot.” Previous Thor movies have seen the character torn between Earth and Asgard. It’s refreshing to see that the next installment of the franchise will take a more cosmic focus which is a corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe only explored in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Discussing the intergalactic weirdness of Thor Winderbaum continued. “And that’s where a lot of fun, trippy stuff that we’re bringing to the screen has come from.”

Director Taika Waititi also discussed what Thor: Ragnarok is trying to achieve. The director claims that the strangeness of the next Thor film will all be worthwhile and necessary for the audience.

“It’s what it needs to be. Especially to live up to a name like Ragnarok, you know? If we’re gonna do Ragnarok, we gotta do it properly. We just gotta throw it all in there.”

Hopefull Waititi can live up to this promise but I don’t think we should be worried. The director is on something of a streak, with this year’s massive hit Hunt For The Wilderpeople and the hilarious What We Do In The Shadows.
