Ben Affleck Talks Lighter Tone Of ‘Justice League’

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Cineplex recently chatted with Ben Affleck about the upcoming Justice League film and how its tone is different from previous DC Extended Universe movies. Affleck said:

Justice League, you probably saw the teaser that came out of Comic-Con; I thought it is nicely emblematic of the kind of minor tone shift and segue in storytelling,” he says, comparing the November 2017 film to the dark and brooding Batman v Superman. “It’s a little bit lighter, the characters are a little bit more comfortable in themselves, so they can express a wider array of emotions. And there are just more people in it, so it’s more fun. It’s all of these different characters bumping up against each other and the team dynamic offers a lot of dramatic possibility.”

And as for The Batman? Well, Affleck gave the generic answer:

“We’re still working on it, taking a little extra time and a little extra care to really get it right on paper first. But it’s looking very good and I’m excited about it.”

With Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s tease, the look of Justice League so far, and Affleck’s comment here, it’s apparent that the future of the DCEU is a brighter, more hopeful one.

Justice League hits theaters on November 17, 2017

“Black As Midnight On A Moonless Night” ‘Twin Peaks’ Teaser!

Monkeys Fighting Robots

“You know, this is – excuse me – a damn fine cup of coffee”.

Showtime has released a brand new teaser for the upcoming new season of Twin Peaks. You can watch it below.

It’s a short clip and doesn’t really tell us much. But it does put series star Kyle MacLachlan back in front of the camera as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper.

It’s also appropriately atmospheric and creepy. And, of course, features that iconic theme song by the great Angelo Badalamenti.

Set to premiere on May 21, 2017, the revival is written by original series creators Mark Frost and David Lynch, with the Lynch also directing. The new season will feature 18 episodes.

What do you guys think about the trailer? Are you excited for the return? Will Diane be mentioned? Comment below!

Review: ‘Bye Bye Man’ Why The Hell Was This Even Released

Monkeys Fighting Robots

“Don’t Think it … Don’t Say it … and if you know what’s good for you ..Don’t Watch it.”

This should have been the mantra that the three most important characters in the film repeated over and over during the utterly bewildering “Horror” film (and I use that term loosely) Bye Bye Man. The only thing scary about this release is someone at STX Entertainment deemed it worthy enough to be released to the general public. Where most horror films are teeming with scares, this one is chock full of stupidity. It’s a struggle even to come up with a rational reason why anyone would even pay to see something that should be at best fodder for the comedians of Riff Trax (Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, and Micheal Nelson .. take note).

Bye Bye Man

I don’t know why I am so surprised by this turn of events? In the first seconds of the film’s opening, a reporter (who seems to be going on some murdering rampage) utters these comments

“I’m sorry … sorry more than words can say”

Was he apologizing for his actions or the debacle that was about to unfold? Didn’t he know the pain that this film was about on these unsuspecting audiences?

The premise behind this narrative (and I use the words premise and narrative extremely loosely) is that these three college students happen to be renting this rundown mansion. They come across this dusty nightstand that contains some weird ass drawings, coins and the phrase Bye Bye Man. Once they say his name, strange things start happening to these college students. Now let’s say if this glorified rip-off of the boogie man was chopping these kids up into pieces, I might have been okay with the film. However, what happens in this movie is that these kids start having weird hallucinations primarily around two of the college guys hooking up with the same college girl from their group (oh the drama).

Where most horror films (even the terrible ones) contain some palatable tension, this movie had more of an air of apathy that engulfed the cast. One gets the sense that this ensemble felt they were killing it on the screen when in reality it was like watching a painful Junior High Christmas pageant. I wasn’t sure if we should applaud their effort or feel sorry for them.

Speaking of sorry, let’s discuss the cinematographer who I assume was paid hourly and not for the job itself. Anytime we were remotely involved in what was suppose to be a “scary” scene, they always resorted to a wide shot. It was wide shot after wide shot after wide shot, Why? Were they just trying to get the cinematographer in and out? By having that shot, you saw what was going to occur before the actual scare occured.

The director, Stacy Title is who we thought she was. Her biggest credit to date was when she was at the helm of the “major” horror release, Snoop Dog’s Hood of Horror. ‘Bye Bye Man’ clearly shows that Title has no ability to edit a film together with any discernable flow to it.It seems that her mantra during filming had to have been “Whatever!” This movie is so haphazardly thrown together that one has to wonder if this was even meant to be a serious horror film or some god awful parody. As it stands right now, the only thing scary about Bye Bye Man is that people might see it.

‘The Defenders’ Will Meet ‘The Avengers’ “If The Story Warrants It”, Says Jeph Loeb

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Executive Vice President and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, talked about whether or not The Defenders will ever meet The Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“You’re trying to trap me into saying, ‘hashtag, it’s all connected.’ If the story warrants it, we will obviously do our best to have folks cross into each other’s story lines.”

Additionally, Loeb briefly discussed communication between the Marvel movies and television.

“We certainly communicate with each other in terms of what we’re doing and what we have planned and the characters that we’re using and where it’s all going. Unfortunately for me as a fan, I tend to know more about what’s happening in the movies than I want to know.”

‘Amazon’ Unleashes An ‘Anime Strike’

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Amazon wants everyone to watch anime. The delivery giant already offers their Amazon Video service as a way for people to enjoy digital media but they have decided to target a different demographic. They have decided to offer an anime only streaming service they are calling Anime Strike. The channel will feature a mixture of different titles from features such as Vampire Hunter D and Akira, to exclusives such as Onihei and Chi’s Sweet Adventure, and will even provide same day as they air in Japan shows such as Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga and Scum’s Wish. The channel plans to cater to a much more adult demographic by offering Seinen (the term used for “older male intended audience”) titles and will be commercial free for only $4.99 with a free seven-day trial.

Amazon previously had a hit last year by having the exclusive streaming rights to Kabaneri of The Iron Fortress, an action series featuring humanity having to fight off Kabane, zombie like creatures whose hearts are covered with a protective iron shell. The series found an audience as its themes and atmosphere seemed to hold a similar tone to Attack on Titan. The company may just have something if they keep finding ways to obtain quality titles like Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress and being able to offer them through a service like Anime Strike would be the ideal way of delivering them.

Charlie Cox on Getting Recognized By Fans; Talks ‘Defenders’ Team Dynamic

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Entertainment Weekly recently caught up with Daredevil star Charlie Cox, and the actor shared a story about getting recognized in public by fans of the character.

“Yeah, I do remember them saying, “We’re going to make Daredevil and then Jessica Jones and then eventually do The Defenders,” and I remember thinking, “We’ll see.” [Laughs] I felt a great deal of pressure but more so because I very quickly became aware of the level of fandom that exists around these characters. That’s where the pressure lied.

I was blissfully ignorant for two months and then I was being recognized for a character that hadn’t actually appeared on television yet. It was weird. Like, people came up to me and knew me as Daredevil before any footage had come out. I remember a guy on the subway being like, “You’re Charlie Cox. You’re Daredevil.” And I was like, “Yeah…?” I was barely Daredevil. I hadn’t even signed the contract, you know? And he was like, “Can I ask you one question? There’s a red suit and then another suit that’s black and yellow. What color is the suit [on the show]?”

And I made a joke. I said, “It’s green, right?” The look of horror on this guy’s face! [Laughs] But I do remember we went to Comic-Con, and the fans have been incredibly generous and care greatly about the characters, so the pressure I felt was really for the fans. I wanted this to be a true representation of this character.”

Next, Cox discussed where Matt Murdock is mentally when The Defenders starts.

“Well, it’s been a few months since the end of season 2. I think it’s been quite a challenging few months for him. He took the death of Elektra very badly —I think he feels responsible for that. One of Matt’s big things is trying to protect the people he loves, which is why he keeps his identity hidden, and he’s failed. He’s left holding the dead body of a loved one, and so I think he’s tried to turn a corner.

It’s almost like quitting an addiction in the hope that it will get easier. He’s perhaps a little bit lost, and the best he can do for now is to not engage in his vigilante activities. When we meet him at the beginning of The Defenders, I’m not sure he’s completely found peace with that idea. I think he’s doing the best with what he can at the time. He finds himself between a rock and a hard place, which is the crux of his issue really from the beginning of season 1. “Should I or shouldn’t I? What is more beneficial to society?”

Additionally, he talked about why The Defenders do what they do.

“From what we’ve shot so far, they want to genuinely make a difference and help people out. I’m not convinced that Jessica Jones feels quite as earnestly about that [laughs], but in some ways paradoxically, these great powers are also our great shame. These characters are living with a shame and a loneliness and have felt kind of ostracized. I think they felt like freaks and have been misunderstood. And as sad as that sounds, there’s also something quite beautiful about that. There’s something quite human about that.”

Breakdown For Marvel’s Inhumans Casting Revealed

Monkeys Fighting Robots
Inhumans Marvel
This could be epic – assuming they get good actors to play the Inhumans.

Casting is underway for Marvel’s Inhumans series.

As Comicbook.com reports, Marvel Studios and ABC have put out a casting call for an untitled drama. While the characters have generic names, their personalities do stand out as being familiar.

BRODERICK- 30-40. Caucasian. Can say volumes with just a look. Strong, thoughtful and private. This would appear to be Black Bolt.

MARJORIE- Female. 30-40. Caucasian. An elegant and intelligent advisor to her husband, she struggles to find her place outside of their relationship, as others tend to view her as just a pretty face. Strong and resourceful, she’s not afraid to break the rules when the situation demands it. Based on the description, this character is likely Medusa.

Medusa

MARTY- Male. 30-40. Caucasian. Broderick’s younger brother; he is intelligent, charming and articulate. He comes across as a man of the people but secretly covets power. Clearly, this refers to Maximus.

Inhumans Maximus
Maximus would make for an interesting frenemy- if they play up his dark side

KEVIN- Male. 30-40. Slight of build, his mind is his greatest asset. Always prepared with a plan, his outlook on life is the glass is always half-empty and often cracked and dirty as well. Though his outlook can be grim he has a droll, dry sense of humour. No doubt this is Karnak.

GRADY- Male. 25-35. Impetuous and brash, he has serious impulse control issues which frequently get him into trouble whether its women, booze or fighting. He loves life and lives in the moment for better or worse. This is clearly Gorgon.

Crystal InhumansCHRISTINE- Female. 18-25 to play 18. Soulful but still learning the ways of the world, she has the arrogance of youth. Impetuous and independent, she is also deeply devoted to her family. All signs point to her being Crystal.

TIMOTHY- Male. 25-35. SFXMU required. Supremely athletic. The ultimate picture of cool. He’s calm under pressure and willing to do anything to get the job done. This is most likely Triton.

Inhumans Triton

Last but not least, there is the Inhumans’ loyal pet, Lockjaw. Marvel and ABC will likely bring him to life with the aid of VFX.

Marvel’s Inhumans debuts in IMAX on September 4. The rest of the series will air on the ABC network.

Ben Affleck On ‘Justice League’; Sienna Miller In ‘The Batman’?

Monkeys Fighting Robots

In a recent interview with HeyUGuys on Youtube, Batman actor Ben Affleck talked about what it was like working on Justice League.

“It was great, and there’s a lot of changes and a lot of new stuff. There was a whole feeling of kind of ‘rebirth’ and there’s an exciting group of actors. You know, Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa and guys like that, so much fun, and Gal Gadot who’s great and Henry Cavill. It was a lot of fun.”

The actor then went on to talk about how Sienna Miller would potentially fit into the Batman film that Affleck is writing and directing.

“She’s perfect for anything. She could do anything. Vicki Vale’s kind of bitchy, I think she’s better for…well, we won’t say that.”

Now the question is for you: if any, what role would you like to see Miller play in The Batman? Let us know in the comments below.

Justice League: Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Review: ‘Mega Princess’ #3: Under The Sea

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Max and Justine’s search is almost all washed up when they get in over their heads with their Atlantean neighbors! Water they going to do?!

Writing

Thanks to new magic, Max gets a mermaid tail and is able to explore the watery kingdom in search of her brother. She and Justine meet a fish called Todd, a puffer who can’t puff well. Todd is incredibly cute and is one of the most enjoyable character the pair have met so far.

This book is filled with adorable creatures. Writer Kelly Thompson has created a whimsical world. Taking the premise of a princess wanting more and having them work towards their goal instead of simply being it given by magic allows for much better story telling. Princesses don’t always have to simply sit on a throne and should seek out their dreams (in this case, trying to be the greatest detective ever). This series has the perfect mixture of adventure and fun which is an ideal book for young readers.

Mega Princess

Artwork

The artist team of Brianne Drouhard and M. Victoria Robado offer a very fun and light art style in this book. Unfortunately, this issue isn’t nearly as detailed as in the previous issues. The background panels of several pages are basically blank. Luckily the character designs are still very entertaining and adorable.

Conclusion

Mega Princess is a perfect book for youths who would benefit from reading more comics. With only two issues left, this series is shaping up to be a promising trade paperback to place in the hand of an individual who wants to get into comics. Hopefully this series will get enough attention and the junior detective known as Mega Princess will have the opportunity to go on more adventures in the future. Because the world needs more detective princesses on the case.
