4The Audience Caught Off Guard by MOTHER!

The trailers for mother! promised an intensely weird thriller, but some people didn’t take into account the fact that Darren Aronofsky was directing and things would get weirder than they could even imagine. Curious ticket buyers saw Jennifer Lawrence, and the rest of the impressive cast, and walked into a hurricane of insanity they were not expecting.

People hated mother! It received an F cinemascore, and the box office was nonexistent.  As for that cinemascore, well, Aronofsky should wear that as a badge of honor. This is a film for a niche audience, and it will find the right people over the next few years. Just wait until 2027, and you will start seeing 10-year anniversary think pieces popping up everywhere.
