Meet The Podcasts! Amateur Podcast Championships 2016

Fan Film Boyz Podcast

Robert Jenner

Show 3 – Star Trek Fan Films

I am sure a lot of podcasts will say they are the best because of their sound quality, or maybe their production quality. But the reason that the Fan Film Boyz deserve to win is because we talk about a topic that no one else does, fanfilms are very often overlooked but most are made for the love of a character or movie without any thought of money! Our audience is really why we are the best!

Field of Geeks

Josh Peterson

The Field of Geeks podcast covers a wide array of topics! From the heartland of America, we bring you movie, TV, video game, and comic book news. We also riff on and review movies, good, bad, and worse than bad. We have interviews with several comics professionals and have a passion for all things “geek”. We create content 3-4 times a month, and can be found on Facebook, Twitter, Podbean, YouTube, iTunes, and Stitcher Radio.

For What It’s Worth

Adam Padzik

‘For What It’s Worth’ is like no other podcast out there. It focuses on deep topics and far-reaching issues by listening to average people who are entrenched in them. The results are down-to-earth conversations which leave you with lingering thoughts about the topics discussed and your own take on them. Eclectic, thought-provoking, and always reserving the right to blow your mind…take a listen, you won’t regret it.

Franchise Friends

Kate Strollo

Episode 13: Star Wars Episodes 1-3 THE PREQUELS

Franchise Friends is a weekly podcast featuring movie news and franchise reviews. Hosted by Kate Strollo and Tyler Costill, we aim to cover not only blockbuster franchises, but lesser known film series as well as actor and director discussions. As opposed to your typical movie review podcast, we tackle a specific movie universe as a whole and how it impacts broader industry trends.

Having recently moved from Philadelphia to Los Angeles, another goal of ours is to spotlight creatives in film, music, design, and more across the country! Though many podcasts feature just the two of us, you can be sure to find a guest every other episode.

As two movie nerds, this podcast has been a long time in the making. Not only does it serve as a creative outlet for us to discuss (and maybe ramble about) film, but it’s also a way for us to network and meet others within the space. We haven’t been around too long, but our production quality and passion for this project grows with each episode. With our continued dedication and proper support, I know we can build something big!

Go Kart Brothers

Shannon Hamel

I’m not actually sure we should win the 2016 Amateur Podcast Championship. There are quite a few amazing podcasts entered in this contest already and I’d be a liar if I said we deserved to win over some of them. That all being said, I don’t think we’re the bottom of the barrel either. We’re underappreciated and unknown, but we podcast anyway, for the love of podcasting, and if that’s all there is for us, that’s still enough.

Good Games Podcast

Frank Frimpong-Manso

Episode 123: Easy as ABC

We’ve always put the main aspect of our show first: video games. This has led us to adopt a very disciplined approach to crafting the show. We cover and review games of all generations from the classics to release day. We discuss current events in gaming, go over new releases, and even have themed episodes for a change of pace. We have had a variety of guests on our show as well, from mutual friends to game developers. We love what we talk about and that love shows with the quality of each episode. We try to be more positive amongst the sea of negativity that you may get with other shows. When ending all of our shows we say “Good Games” and that term has multiple meanings in the world of gaming.

Good Times Great Movies

Douglas McCambridge

We’re just like How Did This Get Made…minus the star power and production values. Take a listen please and judge for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.

Go Watch A Movie

Kelvin Owens

Since episode one we have been learning to make this podcast the best that it can be. We have changed and grown every episode for the better, and will continue to do so. With that said Movies are magic, they can bring so much joy to world and do and I feel they should be talked about!

GravityBeard Podcast

Chris Green

I’m a true amateur. Would love to podcast full-time, but I have a job and I’m married with 3 kids. I don’t have a partner or help of any kind. I had no technical experience before I started a few months ago. I had 5 Twitter followers at the end of August. Now I have 8,700. So under the circumstances, I think my show is pretty good. FYI, the two Eps w/my dad are some of my most popular.

Great Beer Adventure

Amanda Doughty

Portland Beer Week, The Battle of the Brewery Bands; Entry 073

The best podcasts to listen to are the ones where people are truly passionate about their subject matter. Great Beer Adventure is shines a light on not only my passion but introduces the world to folks who are living their passions. Beer is a highly creative medium and I am super grateful to share it with everyone. The audio and sound design is also top notch and makes for easy listening. Altogether, Great Beer Adventure is one of the best undiscovered podcasts out there!
