Monkeys Fighting Robots

Mark Ruffalo was asked if a solo Hulk film is still a possibility, and he responded with a pretty passionate answer.

“I want to make one thing perfectly clear today. A stand-alone Hulk movie will never happen because Universal has the rights to the stand-alone Hulk movie and, for some reason, they don’t know how to play well with Marvel. And clearly they don’t like money.”

No Maybe About New ‘Buddy Thunderstruck’ Special

Monkeys Fighting Robots

The surprise hit from American Greetings and Stoopid Buddies Stoodios is back again. Buddy Thunderstruck and his best friend Darryl return in their own choose your own adventure style episode. Considering the characters regularly getting in such random and bizarre adventures, would adding structure by giving the audience a say hinder the show? Not in the slightest!

Writing

A fun concept which will have the audience wanting to research the episode. The pair tries every crazy ideas they had in the Maybe Pile, a bag they put in all the ideas they didn’t think were good enough to try in the moment. This results in them attempting insane ideas like trying to get super powers and drinking three espressos in a row all in an effort to find the one awesome idea they put in the bag. This is where the audience interaction comes in as two different choices will appear on your device and you will have the option of picking which one you want to play out. It’s a great concept which more shows would benefit from trying. On top of the concept itself being entertaining the episode is filled the type of humor fans have come to expect from this series. You are almost guaranteed to laugh.

Buddy Thunderstruck

Animation

The quality animation did not decrease at all from the from first season. Considering this is a single special, the team could have easily just slapped something together and called it good but instead they decided to make sure every aspect of the episode was top shelf. Always good when a studio keeps a certain level of production in their work.

Acting

Another aspect of this special which is on par with first season is the acting. The cast give just as entertain a performance and make sure to stay true to their characters. Of course, the cast is a little light than in other episodes as it focuses more on just Darryl and Buddy but considering how good those two work together, there is no problem at all.

Conclusion

The Maybe Pile wins on two fronts. First it makes you want more by showcasing how much fun can be had with the choose you own adventures style of presentation. Second it reminds everyone just how entertaining the characters of this series are and how they still have plenty of adventures they can go on. Hopefully all goes well, more specials will be ordered, and someday we get “Maybe Pile 2: Electric Boogaloo.”

“Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job” Receives Season 6 Special

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! will be returning to Adult Swim for a season 6 special episode. Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, the titular duo doing the awesome job, announced the episode during their “10 Year Anniversary Awesome Tour” on July 14th in New York City. The exact air date of the episode has not been declared yet, but the duo did confirm that it will be on television at some point in the fall.

The episode itself, which was shown in its entirety during the tour, is apparently filled with references to the series’ entire run. Considering that the last episode aired in 2010, the new material could be considered something of a refresher course, if it’s actually possible to forget things like Spagett or their bizarre “Chrimbus Special.” Either way, the episode is guaranteed to please longtime fans of Tim and Eric, although because of this, its ability to convert newcomers is questionable.

This isn’t exactly the end of some longstanding hiatus, however; the duo have been up to quite a few things since 2010. On Adult Swim alone, they have Check It Out! with Steve Brule and Tim & Eric Bedtime Stories, both of which are Tim and Eric spinoffs, with the latter an appropriately strange horror anthology series. Heidecker also works on the Adult Swim series Decker, while Wareheim is one of the best parts of the excellent Master of None series on Netflix.

At the end of the New York show, the duo gave special thanks to Bob Odenkirk, who they praised for being an early “champion” of their offbeat, surrealist work. Odenkirk, of course, likely saw the series as a successor to his own extremely strange Mr. Show with Bob and David, a sketch comedy series co-starring David Cross. Mr. Show received something of a reboot for Netflix in 2016.

Are you excited for more Tim and Eric?

D23: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Cast Take the Stage for Wild Teaser (Updated With Pictures)

Monkeys Fighting Robots

At a live presentation during Disney’s D23 Expo today, some of the cast of the Avengers: Infinity War was brought out on stage. Emphasis on some, as Marvel President Kevin Feige promised “every single hero” who had ever been in a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film for Infinity War.

Included on stage was Josh Brolin/Thanos, Paul Bettany/Vision, Elizabeth Olsen/Scarlet Witch, Pom Klementieff/Mantis, Karen Gillan/Nebula, Dave Bautista/Drax, Don Cheadle/War Machine, Anthony Mackie/Falcon, Benedict Cumberbatch/Doctor Strange, Tom Holland/Spider-Man, Sebastian Stan/Winter Soldier, Chadwick Boseman/Black Panther, Mark Ruffalo/Hulk, Chris Hemsworth/Thor, and of course Robert Downey Jr./Iron Man. Joe Russo, one of the directors of the film, also took the stage.

Just some of the cast from “Avengers: Infinity War”

A teaser for Infinity War was also shown. While not yet posted online, we do have a description courtesy of THR:

“The trailer begins with The Guardians of the Galaxy in space. Suddenly, a body hits their spaceship. It’s an unconscious Thor, wearing his gladiator garb for Thor: Ragnarok. They bring him inside the ship, and he asks what’s going on.

Next we are on Earth, where our heroes are dealing with death and destruction. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) has the tesseract, Peter Parker is on a school bus and sees his arm hair is tingling (Spider-sense?)

It’s hard to break down how wild this trailer is, but here’s just some small observations:

— Spider-Man has a new suit, that looks quite advanced, ala the one at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming

— Captain America has a beard and looks like he’s been through a lot.

— Thanos wears the Infinity Gauntlet, and pulls down part of a moon to battle the Avengers on an alien planet.

— Doctor Strange battles alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy and Iron Man on this planet.”

This article will be updated when/if the teaser arrives online.
