Supercon, South Florida, And The Convention As A Playground For The Imagination

Monkeys Fighting Robots

As San Diego Comi-Con comes to a close, fly with Monkeys Fighting Robots and the culture of geekdom across the U.S. to the Magic City for Florida’s Supercon. The little convention that could holds a special place in the hearts of South Floridians. From a small hotel event space to filling a 190,000 square foot convention center, the con has grown with the support of locals and the experience of a life-long geek in Mike S. Broder. Today, it’s a premier pop culture convention hosting more than 50,000 attendees and featuring over 750 hours of programming that includes celebrity Q&As, costume contests, fan panels, workshops, and more.

Supercon 2017 gets underway on July 27th-30th.

Early vendors such as indie comic book publishers Cosmic Times and Creature Entertainment are mainstays, keeping that local flair alive and well. As the con grows to encompass more guests from all around the world, it combines the vibrant nature of South Florida with all the geekdom fun any convention goer could want. For proof of the exciting vibe of Supercon, look no further than Jason Mamoa’s 2014 appearance.

supercon-movie-convention

Like all great conventions, Supercon opens up a treasure trove of celebrities from geekdom. Supercon is bringing together cast members and fans from Star Trek, Doctor Who, wrestling (Ric Flair, WOO!), and a whole lot more. If you think about it, a convention is like a super-epic-meta-crossover of shows. Tony Todd from Star Trek, The Flash (Zoom’s voice) will be hanging out with the Twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi. Imagine The Doctor on a quest to stop time-traveling super-speedster Zoom. Or maybe you’d like to imagine the Six Million Dollar Man versus the Karate Kid? Both actors will be there! Supercon features Wrestling stars from then and now, side-by-side, immediately conjures up the thought of legendary battles between them.

Art imitates life which imitates art to create even more art and a vibrant evolution of life. Maybe I’m getting a little too heady here, but conventions like Supercon are playgrounds for fantasy and the imagination.

Supercon 2017 gets underway on July 27th-30th. Expect more to come because Monkeys Fighting Robots will be there!

A Look at 6 of The Most Epic Scenes of ‘Game Of Thrones’

Monkeys Fighting Robots

‘Game of Thrones’ kicked off last Sunday, introducing Arya as the bad ass we always knew she was. In honor of tonight’s new episode, let’s take a look at some of the show’s most iconic moments.

  1. The Red Wedding

Arguably one of the most epic, sad, and awesome scenes of any television show I’ve ever watched.  What started off as a sweet celebration quickly turned into a mass slaughter.

  1. Cersei’s Walk Of Shame

Cersei Lannister’s walk of atonement caused a lot of controversy for the real life actress Lena Headey.  Many fans criticized the actress for her decision to use a body double.  EW says, Headey chose not to be nude for the six-minute climactic sequence “for several reasons,” among them that she wanted to focus on the emotions in her performance. She also opted out of the casting process for her double. “I was like, ‘Listen, guys she happens to have a beautiful body, but I don’t do casting,” the Emmy nominee says. “If somebody is brave enough to do this, I applaud it.”

  1. Hodor Hold The Door

The season 6 episode “The door” was a very emotional one.  On one hand, we finally get some back story on Hodor.  Once we learn how he got his name, and begin to love his character even more…..he dies.

  1. The Battle Of The Bastards

If there’s one man who can take on an entire army, by himself, it’s Jon Snow.  He was prepared to be the only one to face off against 5,000 Bolton Army men, but thanks to Littlefinger he didn’t have to.  In an epic turn of events right as Snow turns around to take on the army the Knights of Vale began to shoot their arrows.  While the battle was great, another great scene that happened right after this is Ramsay’s death.  I had never been so happy to see someone die since King Joffrey.  Bolton went back to Winterfell thinking he was safe until Snow’s army found him.

After viciously beating him, Jon then ties up Ramsay and lets his starved hounds eat him.

  1. Introduction Of Lady Lyanna of Mormont

If my future daughter turns out to be like Lady Lyanna, I wouldn’t be mad at all.  As such a young age, this queen is feisty, fierce, and not afraid.  Though her army is small, they are mighty.

  1. Gendry Calling Arya His Lady

The last time we saw Gendry he had just been set free by Davos Seaworth and was put on a boat leaving Dragonstone.  Before this, he expresses his feelings to Arya.  The character hasn’t been seen since season 3, and fans have no idea about his whereabouts.  The actor who plays him Joe Dempsie has confirmed he will appear in the current season.  “Very fortunately from what I’ve seen, it’s been nothing but interest and excitement and some quite witty memes,” he told the Los Angeles Times.

New Marvel Cinematic Universe Posters Bring on the Bright Colors (UPDATED!)

Monkeys Fighting Robots

While we’re getting a healthy dose of epic new trailers from SDCC, we’re also seeing some great new posters coming from Marvel Studios for Avengers: Infinity War, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther.

Black Panther’s new poster has him looking like a king, looking over Wakanda from up high from the Panther monument teased in the credits of Captain America: Civil War. The logo is a little different too, adding a bright blue to the text that looks good. Blue Skies, sun shining, and T’Challa ready to defend his kingdom:

But if that wasn’t colorful enough, we have Thor: Ragnarok to melt out screens. Somebody liked geometry in high school. There is enough symmetry here to make an SAT problem out of—and it looks awesome. It might be Marvel’s first poster perfectly suitable for an acid trip:

Finally, we have two posters for Avengers: Infinity War. Again, we’re getting a bit more color and a painted look—and some surprising character choices. While Mantis, Nebula, and Winter Soldier make the poster, Star-Lord, Thor, and Cap are nowhere to be seen. Meanwhile, even Thanos is rocking the colorful hues and owning that bald look:

Marvel is bringing on the bright colors, a trend set by Guardians of the Galaxy. These posters fit the tone of the MCU much better than what we’ve seen in the past. Look at how dark and moody they wanted to be:

Marvel Studios is embracing their tone wonderfully, and it makes waiting for the movies that much harder.

Update: Bearded Cap has arrived!

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Trailer

Monkeys Fighting Robots

One of the highlights of last weeks D23 was Marvel’s presentation of footage from ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’ Fans read descriptions of the footage and were blown away by the description of what took place in the three-minute trailer. Those who weren’t lucky enough to attend the event in California then proceeded to hope that either Marvel or some fan would be fortunate enough to get footage from the event and leak it online. SDCC: Marvel Unleashes Details Of ‘Captain Marvel’ Film

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Though a trailer or teaser wasn’t provided there was still plenty of information about the upcoming Captain Marvel movie set to open in 2019. The news paints a very vivid picture of what to expect from Marvel’s first female led film, where Brie Larson is set to play Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel.

The movie will take place in the 1990s, meaning it will be before the events of the first entry in the MCU, Iron Man. This will no doubt result in hiding the details of what plays out to explain why this events were not mentioned in any other movies previously. Details which were buried deep in the S.H.I.E.L.D. files (a bit of speculation on how this can all be explained). Concept art has been provided which showcases Samuel L. Jackson, once again assuming his role as NIck Fury. The artwork also showed the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. to still have both of his eyes, meaning there is a good chance the events which lead to him losing his eye will be played out.

The main antagonists of the film were also revealed. It will be the shapeshifting, world conquering aliens, The Skrulls who will Captain Marvel will have to tangle with. This seems like a perfect fit given how Captain Marvel’s powers came from the Kree, the alien race which has fought with the Skrulls countless times in the comic book mythology.

The film is set to be released on March 8th, 2019, meaning there may still be a wait before a full trailer is released for the film. Keep your eyes pealed to Monkeys Fighting Robots for more news on the coming of Captain Marvel to the big screen.
