SDCC: Next DOCTOR WHO Season Will Not Feature a Classic Villain

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Daleks, war-hungry aliens that cause fear and terror across the universe and scaring children since 1963. They are The Doctor’s greatest nemesis, providing some of the best stories in the classic and modern eras. However, it looks like the Daleks are not returning for the 11th season of Doctor Who.

The new showrunner Chris Chibnall confirmed this news when speaking to the Radio Times in the UK. Chibnall is quoted telling the Radio Times “We’ve got lots of new villains, lots of new monsters, lots of new characters for you to fall in love with.” Chibnall also states “It’s a great moment to bring everybody on board. It’s a big, inclusive, accessible mainstream series of 10 really, varied, exciting standalone stories. So you won’t see very much from the past.”

When speaking at San Diego Comic-Con Chibnall said “We’ve got two weeks left of shooting, and we haven’t seen them [Daleks] yet.”

This could all be a bluff from Chibnall with the aim to surprises audiences with a big return for blobs in battle armor, but it is unlikely. During the modern era the Daleks have been overused to the point that any sense of menace from them has disappeared – a break of a season or two so that the show could build up a massive return for them and be a huge threat once again. They could have a storyline that does them justice.

Doctor Who is set to return in October this year.

SDCC: The DCEU Is No More. It’s Now Known As WORLDS OF DC

Monkeys Fighting Robots

The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) has been given a new name: Worlds of DC.

Worlds Of DC
DC Comics

Screen Rant is reporting that Warner Bros. has finally given it’s DC Comics-based ‘DCEU’ the official name of ‘Worlds of DC’. The news was revealed during the Warner Bros. Hall H panel at Comic-Con International.

Worlds Of DC is a very telling name, as it points to a more ‘multiverse’ concept with multiple worlds. This makes sense as Warner Bros. seems to be wanting to take the DC Comics’ properties in a new direction after the some-what cold reception of their initial try at a shared cinematic universe.

What do you guys think? Could the name change signify big changes for film and TV? Are you still excited to see a shared cinematic DCU? Or would you prefer stand-alone stories? Comment and discuss below!

Monkeys Fighting Robots

DC Comics is bringing cult favorite character Lobo to the small screen in the upcoming second season of Krypton.

Lobo
DC Comics

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Krypton season two will be adding Lobo to its cast of characters as the new ‘big bad’.

Lobo hails from the planet of Czarnia and he is the last of his kind; having slaughtered his entire planet. He is typically depicted as a foul-mouthed, chain-smoking biker who works as a bounty hunter and is usually more anti-hero than a full-on villain, as he is being used here.  No casting has yet been announced.

What do you guys think? Are you excited to see this cult character in live-action? Perhaps DC is testing the waters on ‘The Main Man’ before the long-rumored Michael Bay movie becomes official?  Comment and discuss below!

‘Krypton’ returns to SyFy and stars Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El, Shaun Sipos as Adam Strange, Georgina Campbell as Lyta-Zod, Elliot Cowan as Daron-Vex, Ann Ogbomo as Jayna-Zod, Rasmus Hardiker as Kem, Wallis Day as Nyssa-Vex, Aaron Pierre as Dev-Em, Ian McElhinney as Val-El and Blake Ritson as Brainiac. A return date has not been set.

SDCC: INVADER ZIM Is Returning After 12 Years

Monkeys Fighting Robots

After a long break, your favorite alien is back!

Invader Zim is returning, but not a new season or a reboot. It’s returning as a movie.

During San Diego Comic-Con International series creator Jhonen Vazquez, along with original voice cast members Richard Horvitz (ZIM), Rikki Simons (GIR), Wally Wingert (Almighty Tallest Red) and Kevin McDonald (Almighty Tallest Purple) got together to tell us more about Invader Zim: Enter The Florpus

Before his appearance at SDCC, Vazquez sat down with Polygon for an interview. He said:

What I’m making isn’t going to be the best episode of Invader Zim. I would be battling people’s childhoods and trying to carve out space for a new favorite thing, and that’s the worst attitude to have when making this stuff.

Chris Viscardi, SVP, Content Development and Production, Animation for Nickelodeon said in a statement:

As a network that prides itself on a 25-year history of creating groundbreaking, hilarious animation for kids, Invader Zim is one of our great loves. It’s been so exciting to see its popularity grow over the last decade through social media, consumer products, and the Zim comic books. What makes this announcement extra thrilling is the adventure that Jhonen has created for Zim, and I can promise you that it is as wonderfully absurd and strangely heartfelt as any fan of the original series could hope for, and kids seeing it for the first time will love it too.

No official release date has been given, but here is a sneak peak of the movie.

SDCC: First ‘Shazam!’ Trailer Released

Monkeys Fighting Robots

During its panel at San Diego Comic-Con International, Warner Bros. debuted the first teaser trailer for David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! movie, which has now been released online.

SDCC: New Beasts, Old Mirrors, and Surprising Faces in New CRIMES OF GRINDEWALD Trailer

The trailer gives us our first look at Shazam! and teases a lighter and more comedic adventure in the DC Extended Universe. As someone who has admired Zachary Levi’s work for a while, I’ll say that he looks perfectly cast as the DC hero and the overall tone of the film is something we should all be excited to see.

Watch the trailer below:

[embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=go6GEIrcvFY[/embedyt]

David F. Sandberg (“Annabelle: Creation”) directs New Line Cinema’s “Shazam!,” the origin story that stars Zachary Levi (TV’s “Chuck”) as the titular DC Super Hero, along with Asher Angel (TV’s “Andi Mack”) as Billy Batson, and Mark Strong (the “Kingsman” movies) in the role of Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. Peter Safran (upcoming “Aquaman,” “The Conjuring” and “Annabelle” films) serves as the film’s producer.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

As he says this, Dumbledore is looking into the Mirror of Erised, first seen in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The mirror shows the viewer their greatest desire. Looking back at Dumbledore is the spectral face of Grindewald.
