Fort Collins Brewery’s Malt Monster Breaks Loose

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Fort Collins, Colo. – FCB (Fort Collins Brewery) is excited to announce the release of its latest Malt Monster brew, Giles, Golden Imperial Ale Friday, February 20th.

A villainous monster, Giles, Golden Imperial Ale may be a light-bodied brew, but he’s as complex of a creature as any. The fighting trilogy of fruity esters, light, spicy hops and sweet notes of alcohol supported by a soft malt character create an all too familiar mischief-maker.

“Giles is the first brew to kick off our 2015 season of monsters, and I think the audience following the Malt Monster series will enjoy its light, but bold flavors present throughout the beer,” said Kaylee Kulich, Brand Manager at FCB.

Malt Monsters (MM) is an artisanal bomber series of limited release high-alcohol beers. Each unique brew features its own monster and history depending on origin of the beer style. Giles was named after the famous Gilles of Binche, performers disguised with masks, red costumes and wooden clogs. Like the performers, Giles, Golden Imperial Ale is a symbol of the coming spring.

Each rotational limited release monster is available in 22oz bombers and on draft throughout FCB’s distribution footprint. Giles will be available to ship beginning the week of February 23rd.

MM merchandise and pint glasses can be purchased custom to each monster at FCB or online.

Twitter Takes A Look At The 2015 Oscars

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Twitter dug into the millions of Tweets sent about the Oscar nominees to determine which are getting the most Twitter traction. Here are the most-discussed nominees in major categories:

Twitter Oscars

Twitter Oscar Best Picture

These results are based on Tweets discussing the nominee and specific Oscar-related terms since nominations were announced, which tells a bit of a different story than just measuring which film or star is getting the most overall conversation. For example, “American Sniper” is the most-discussed film among the Best Picture nominees; when analyzing what people talk about most in the context of the Oscars, “Selma” takes the lead.

We were also curious about *where* the Best Picture nominees were most popular. The interactive map below highlights which state saw the most Twitter activity for each film (adjusted for relative activity per state). As you can see, perhaps unsurprisingly, “The Imitation Game” was most popular in California, while “Selma” was most popular in Alabama; meanwhile, Utah was top state for both “The Theory of Everything” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel”.

Attention Nerds: Google Science Fair Is On

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Science is about observing and experimenting. It’s about exploring unanswered questions, solving problems through curiosity, learning as you go and always trying again.

That’s the spirit behind the fifth annual Google Science Fair, kicking off today. Together with LEGO Education, National Geographic, Scientific American and Virgin Galactic, we’re calling on all young researchers, explorers, builders, technologists and inventors to try something ambitious. Something imaginative, or maybe even unimaginable. Something that might just change the world around us.

From now through May 18, students around the world ages 13-18 can submit projects online across all scientific fields, from biology to computer science to anthropology and everything in between. Prizes include $100,000 in scholarships and classroom grants from Scientific American and Google, a National Geographic Expedition to the Galapagos, an opportunity to visit LEGO designers at their Denmark headquarters, and the chance to tour Virgin Galactic’s new spaceship at their Mojave Air and Spaceport. This year we’re also introducing an award to recognize an Inspiring Educator, as well as a Community Impact Award honoring a project that addresses an environmental or health challenge.

It’s only through trying something that we can get somewhere. Flashlights required batteries, then Ann Makosinskitried the heat of her hand. His grandfather would wander out of bed at night, until Kenneth Shinozuka tried a wearable sensor. The power supply was constantly unstable in her Indian village, so Harine Ravichandran tried to build a different kind of regulator. Previous Science Fair winners have blown us away with their ideas. Now it’s your turn.

Big ideas that have the potential to make a big impact often start from something small. Something that makes you curious. Something you love, you’re good at, and want to try.

So, what will you try?
