Reverse-Flash teases at connection with ‘The Flash’!
Messing with the timeline comes with very big consequences. Barry/ ‘The Flash’ has learned far too well what that means. Since the cross over event, everyone knows the truth about what Barry did. This was troubling for all members of the different teams (Team Flash, Team Arrow, Team Supergirl), but now it is exposing some secrets with the Legends.
In season one of ‘The Flash’, Reverse-Flash or Eobard Thawne, is erased from existence. Or was he? A different version, the version before he killed Harrison Wells and got stuck in the past. Thawne’s identified, this can’t be good.
On Thursdays mid-season finale, Dr. Martin Stein, (Victor Garber) had a moment where he totally remembered seeing Thawne, asked if they know each other, to which Thawne replied, “Let’s just say, it’s complicated.”
According to my source, “This is not a Reverse-Flash from a different Earth if that’s what you mean — after all, Eobard seemed to know who Stein was during the winter finale. “We are going to find out shortly on Legends of Tomorrow just how this Eobard links into the Eobard from The Flash,” Matt Letscher says, “where he’s coming from, and more importantly, where he’s going to after this.”
Flashpoint screwed up every timeline.
Will we learn the real truth about Thawne in the upcoming season? Reverse Flash makes his way back to Central City?
Could we even see another Cross over event this year? Doubtful, but the fans can hope!
‘Legends’ stars Caity Lotz, Brandon Routh, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Franz Drameh, and Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein.
‘DC’s Legends of Tomorrow’ normally airs Thurday nights at 8/7c on the CW, but will be moving to Tuesday nights at 9/8c following ‘The Flash’ starting on January 24th, 2017 after the midseason winter break.
Capitalizing on the success, both financially and critically, of the original Lego Movie, this DC themed comic book film looks to please fans and tell a story filled with humor and heart.
After the horrendous live action/CGI cross over Smurfs films we got a few years back, the franchise is seemingly going back to its roots with this new installment.
Captain Underpants could go one of two ways: either it’s a smash hit that spawns a franchise, or it bombs and the franchise never sees the light of day again. It has potential, but we’ll have to see if the marketing draws viewers in.
Following the universally agreed upon worst Pixar film in Cars 2, the company is putting out a third installment which looks darker in tone than the previous two.
Although the less anticipated of the two Lego movies hitting theaters in 2017, the Ninjago franchise is a hit among kids and the cast is stacked, including names such as Jackie Chan, Dave Franco, and Michael Peña .
Coco is an original Pixar film telling the story of “a 12-year-old boy named Miguel who sets off a chain of events relating to a century-old mystery, leading to an extraordinary family reunion”. With a stacked, diverse cast, can Pixar deliver another Inside Out sized hit
So, are you excited about the animated movies coming out in 2017? I’m hyped for Lego Batman, Smurfs, Cars 3, and Coco. Other than that, the quality seems to be mediocre; only time will tell if 2017 is as good for animation as 2016 was.
‘The Flash’ adds in another member of the ‘Justice League’ to help Vibe? Carlos Valdez tells all!
This season, Vibe has been fully let out of his cage. We have seen Cisco deal with the changes happening to him, leading up to taking on the identity of Vibe. There’s still a lot to learn for Vibe, and he could use some help.
At The CW’s Fan Fest Q&A, Valdez, who plays fan favorite Cisco/Vibe gave the fans an inside scoop about the future of his character.
“There’s gonna be a new visitor to our world named Gypsy. DC Comics fans will be familiar with Gypsy. She’s gonna be coming into our world and Vibe will definitely get to learn some new skills as part of getting to know her.”
Gypsy (real name Cindy Reynolds), introduced in the very same issue that both Vibe and Steel were born. Justice League of America Annual Part 2 opens during a time of transition, where the Justice League were getting younger. Creators didn’t know if she was going to stick, but all three characters managed to carry on. Gypsy’s powers include telepathic and illusion casting, and camouflage for herself and one other person. Characters were created by Gerry Conway and Chuck Patton.
According to my source, there is no word on when we can expect Gypsy to show up and kick ass. We can only hope that it’s soon.
Now that things are getting back to normal with Cisco and Barry, it is the perfect time to help Cisco really reel in his powers.
‘The Flash’ stars Grant Gustin, Danielle Panabaker, Jesse L. Martin, Candice Patton, Tom Cavanaugh, and Carlos Valdez as Cisco Ramone.
‘The Flash’ airs on Tuesdays at 8/7c on the CW.
New episodes will return in January after the mid season break.
The official premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story took place on Saturday, December 10, and guests that attended the event shared their reactions to the film on Twitter.
One word: WOW! I was absolutely enthralled! #RogueOne
In Rotation, a listicle for music lovers, and seekers of new and different things to listen to. So, if you’re looking for new music, something different, or maybe music to suit your mood this week, here is the place to get a diverse offering each week.
In Rotation this week, we have a screamo/punk band that has gone Shoegazing, a disaster film soundtrack, the newest work from a legend in Horror Punk, Matt Skiba’s post punk side project, a Gothic/Poltical Punk giant’s side project, the earlier work of a band that has donned many genres, a new wave band that has had a prominent place in horror history (Sort of), and a Surf Rock/’50s-’60s Rock instrumental group in the information age that has no information to find.
Shall we begin?
1)
Band: Thursday
Album: City by the Light Divided
Most bands put out controversial subject matter to earn their album much malcontent and malign in a mix of attitudes towards it. However, some only have to do something moderately different in their sound to stir the pot. Thursday certainly didn’t tone a thing down, as songs like At This Velocity are anything, but tamed. Though, what Thursday does implement into their music is an amping up of the effects and shoegazing the vocals and guitars at times to blend harmoniously together.
Sure, it is not for everyone, and some Thursday fans hate the music on this album. If you’re okay with a little something different, give this album a spin.
2)
Band: Various
Album: Twister soundtrack
Normally, this writer would be less likely to add a soundtrack to the mix, but occasionally one stands out in memory. When you’re looking to rock out to the elements, or block them out, this truly is the album for you.
The stand out tracks, and likely the only good ones, are Van Halen’s Humans Being, Soul Asylum’s Miss This, The Goo Goo Dolls’ Long Way Down, and Eddie and Alex Van Halen’s Respect the Wind.
Some notables for this album, there is no indication who the heck is singing with Van Halen, The Goo Goo Dolls were all ’90s Hard Rock and Punky, and why is the epic Deep Purplesong not on there! You still need to check this out.
3)
Band: Michale Graves
Album: When Worlds Collide
Michale Graves, of The Misfits, Gotham Rd, and Graves fame, to name a few, has put out a new Horror album over the past year, and you need to hear it. Ranging in inspirations from his very own Web of Dharma and Vagabond, and his era of Misfits’ American Psycho, When Worlds Collide is unique among its peers. Such as his prior Horror Rock album Lost Skeleton Returns, and various other acoustic and instrumental albums.
It feels like a culmination of his Horror career, and it certainly is worth more than a few rotations. Even better, you can pick it up digitally for $5.00 here, so you give it a …digital spin or whatever kids do these days.
4)
Band: Heavens
Album: Patent Pending
Matt Skiba is no stranger to side projects, as he has taken a break from Alkaline Trio, to join Blink 182 currently. Of the myriad side projects Skiba has started or been a part of, Heavens is definitely the standout. Matt Skiba finds himself at home with the Post Punk/Dark Wave band.
The uniqueness is felt, but if you know Interpol or Alkaline Trio, you can hear the two bands in the mix.
You should listen to Heavens’ music on Patent Pending for their uniqueness, and the best Matt Skiba side project that will make you wish they would put out another album. If you have the opportunity, check out their cover of “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” as it is one of, if not “the” best cover.
5)
Band: The Joykiller
Album: Self-titled
During Jack Grisham and Ron Emory’s departure from T.S.O.L., and during the Hair Metal awfulness that would spell the end for the their second vocalists’ tenure, they formed The Joykiller. At times it comes off as The Offspring dabbled a little in horror, and much in piano, but this is certainly a unique Punk Rock album that deserves to be heard and turned up loudly, noise ordinances be darned.
Did this writer mention how awesome that comic book looking cover is?
6)
Band: Incubus
Album: S.C.I.E.N.C.E
To know and love the band Incubus, you must be certain you can love their many shades and genres of music they transform into from album to album, and sometimes track to track. S.C.I.E.N.C.E is an odd little rap, jazz, metal, instrumental, and a few other elements album that definitely set this apart from other bands that are considered to be in Incubus’ genre, if that is even possible.
They are more than their song Drive, so give this little unusual diddy a spin.
7)
Band: Pseudo echo
Album: Autumnal Park
New wave acts in the ’80s are a dime a dozen, and if you ride the wave, then there is certainly a good few to choose from. Pseudo Echo certainly hails from one of the weirdest sectors of ’80s music, but its their song His Eyes that has a notable spot in Friday The 13th Part 5. This happens to be the best thing about one of the worst chapters of the Friday The 13th series.
If you’re in a nostalgic ’80s music mood, or love New Wave, you should check this album out.
At the time of this writing, very little information turns up, but the group has two confirmed songs that are quite good for the Surf Rock/’50s-’60s Rock instrumental genre. You might run into some issues because there are more than 5 or so bands with the associated band name “The Jaguars,”but in this writer’s research, only one album and two songs match this particular group.
For fans of Surf Rock/’50s-’60s Rock instrumental, musicians, and anyone who loves music. Give it a listen.
Thank you for taking a short journey into a vast collection of various genres that hopefully will give you something new to listen to this week.
That is all for this week’s In Rotation, but feel free to return next week for a new playlist with more unique, unusual, unknown, and interesting artists. Feel free to turn it up this weekend.
Sherlock finally returns to television on New Year’s Day.
It’s been three long years since the BBC series aired a new episode.
A new preview for the show’s fourth season has been released. It features Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) confronting his demons and introduces the newest villain, Culverton Smith (Toby Jones).
Martin Freeman reprises his role as Dr. John Watson.
Based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle popular detective stories, the TV series debuted in 2010.
One of Will Smith’s breakout roles was in the 1996 sci-fi hit Independence Day. However, the actor was missing from 2016’s Independence Day: Resurgence, as he chose to have a role in Suicide Squad instead. Entertainment Weeklytalked to Smith about the choice he made.
“I had the two screenplays in front of me for the Independence Day 2 and for Suicide Squad. I had to choose between the two of those. Even the choice of going to Suicide Squad — nothing about the qualities of the movie — but the choice of trying to go forward versus clinging and clawing backwards. I do want to aggressively go forward and do new things and create and hopefully be able to stumble upon a new heyday.”
Based on the box office results of Resurgence compared to Suicide Squad, the actor is likely happy with the decision he made.
Suicide Squad is released on blu-ray on December 13.
From Doctor Strange to Blair Witch, here are the absolute worst films of 2016.
Honorable Mention- Dr. Strange and Suicide Squad
2016 was an important year for both Marvel Studios and DC as well. Marvel ventured into uncharted waters as it entered the spiritual realm with its release of Dr. Strange. DC attempted to introduce to a band of antiheroes known as ‘Suicide Squad.’
Instead of the usual well-balanced release that we’ve grown accustomed to from Marvel Studios, we were treated to a cookie cutter narrative that amounted to a huge disappointment. Dr. Strange just didn’t connect in the same way that many of the Marvel films have. Benedict Cumberbatch portrayed Stephen Strange as incredibly bland and lack the nuance the character needed. The villains were incredibly hoo-hum and didn’t cause any stir within the audience. To top it off, you made changes to mythology behind Dr. Strange that were so poor that it ultimately derailed a promising film (example: The Ancient One).
Suicide Squad ended up amounting to a disjointed two hours of boredom that left audiences wanting to exit the theater rather than wanting a sequel.
10. The Light Between Oceans
If you are interested in a melodramatic film that claims to tell a romantic tale but will only elicit boredom, then have I got the movie for you. What was baffling to me is the narrative is highly predictable, but is drawn out so much that you’ll be begging for the film to end after about an hour.
9. Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising
Seth Rogen and all the executives at Universal must think we are morons. There was no need for this film to even see the light of day. Were we left with any burning unanswered questions after the initial film?
8. The Legend of Tarzan
The Legend of Tarzanwas meant to be an exciting summer film that grabbed audiences attention and launched a potential franchise. What we got was a tepid tale that failed to turn a profit for Warner Brothers.
7.The Huntsman: Winter’s War
Why? would you take a terrible movie that wants everyone to think it’s similar to Game of Thrones and make a sequel? The answer is money.
6. Zoolander 2
Zoolander 2is a really, ridiculously bad movie. This is the type of film that the members of Rifftrax would have a field day with. The only shocking part of this list is that this movie is only #6 (which should tell you how terrible 2016 was).
5. Keeping up With The Joneses’
Oh, I have a splendid idea. Let’s take the weird guy from The Hangover and make him the male lead and take the better actor and make him a supporting actor. Also, let’s throw in action sequences that are reminiscent of a Disney channel original film as well. That’s sure to draw audiences right in.
4. Independence Day 2: Resurgence
It took all of 5 minutes to realize why 20th Century Fox didn’t screen this film for film critics before it’s release. I imagine this to be Jeff Goldblum’s face shortly after seeing the final cut of the movie.
3. Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day was yet another example of Hollywood trying to shove down our throats more regurgitated garbage. There’s nothing in the film that can’t be figured by watching the trailer one time. To make matters worse, the narrative is flat and doesn’t nearly do enough to pay homage to Mother’s everywhere.
2. Warcraft
Take away the terrible narrative, the laughable special effects, the sound quality, and actors whose performances seem flat, and you have one of the best of movies of 2016. Video gamers everywhere should be insulted this film is meant to represent one of the most popular games in the world.
1. Blair Witch
Blair Witch is so uninspired and ridiculous that I almost walked out of the screening. This movie is supposed to frighten audiences, but all it did was bring out moments of laughter in the theater. Also enough of the found footage horror films already!
What do you think the worst film of 2016 was? Comment below.
Jessica Chastain gives a ferocious performance in the title role of John Madden’s Miss Sloane. However, one performance often isn’t enough to elevate the overall quality of a film. The best way to characterize this movie is that Miss Sloane is anchored by an “A” list actress saddled with a below-average narrative.
The film centers around the prowess of lobbyist Elizabeth Sloane (Jessica Chastain). Sloane knows how to play the game of politics and employs an array of ruthless tactics to get exactly what she wants every time. Her boss (Sam Waterson) brings her into a meeting with a powerful gun lobby that is hell-bent on defeating any measure that calls for regulatory background checks. Even Sloane can’t bring herself to take on this conservative viewpoint and decides to jump ship and starts working for the opposition.
What motivates Sloane? It certainly isn’t money as she goes from making mountains of cash working for the Pro-Gun Lobby to making next to nothing for an Anti-Gun Lobby that appears to be fighting a losing battle. This campaign doesn’t seem to be personal either as Sloane doesn’t put any value into personal relationships. The only thing that motivates her is winning. She will do whatever is necessary to whomever to achieve the ultimate goal of dominating her opponent (no matter the consequences). Chastain’s performance is what draws audiences in; it’s a shame the narrative isn’t nearly robust enough to keep audiences engaged.
Miss Sloane is Johnathan Perera’s first foray into script-writing, and that’s painfully obvious from the beginning of the film. Rather than spend his time developing a narrative that’s equally engaging and compelling, he overloaded his script with various tropes. What motivates Miss Sloane? Whatever, let’s just make it obvious that she hooked on drugs. Why she’s so focused on winning? Who cares, let’s just throw in a scene where she’s with a male prostitute. Why is guns the one issue which causes the most corrupt lobbyist in Washington to have a conscience suddenly? What does it matter, let’s just have a congressional hearing which is loosely connected to Sloane’s previous dealings on Capitol Hill?
Miss Sloane is the type of film that would have benefited from having a veteran scriptwriter at the helm rather than someone who’s first script inexplicably was purchased and fast tracked to production. I wonder how different this film might have been if Josh Singer and Tom McCarthy crafted this narrative. They both did a fantastic job allowing the corruption in the movie Spotlight to stand out rather than embellishing it. Their focus was on crafting well-rounded characters and stellar dialogue. The result was an intense film, with a stellar narrative, and performances that stand out. Miss Sloane has none of these.
The sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is slated for a July 5, 2019 release date, according to Deadline.
This announcement came after the massive success of the trailer launch.
“A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.”
Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7, 2017.
