New Persona 5 Trailer Launches with New Release Date

Today at the Tokyo Game Show, Atlas, the game-developer behind the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series, debuted a new trailer for the eagerly awaited; Persona 5. The new trailer shows that Persona summoning will now be linked to the player’s Masks as opposed to the Evokers or Tarrot Cards of previous games. This arguably makes a lot of sense given the psychological theories the games take inspiration from (with the titular Persona being a facade used to conquer lifes challenges). The tone of the trailer overall is somewhat darker then the last main entry in the series; Persona 4 and hearkens back to the series roots. Despite this darker tone, the game-play, animation and music featured in the trailers appears to live up to the high standards of its predecessors. More story specific information is sure to emerge in the coming days and when an English version of the trailer premieres.

Unfortunately, the trailer also confirms what fans and game pundits have long suspected. Depsite numerous claims from Atlas that the game was on track to launch in late 2015, it appears that Persona 5 will now hit store shelves in Summer 2016. While originally set the release in 2014, the addition of a PS4 version pushed production on the title back. How long it will take for the title to reach English speaking audiences remains to be seen, until then this excellent trailer will have to suffice.
