But there’s been plenty to enjoy so far in 2017, a year of big movies and small movies and some tremendous movie moments in both. You may have forgotten about some of these – stuff moves pretty fast these days – so this Turkey Day, here’s 12 movie moments to be thankful for in 2017…
9The Stairwell Fight in ATOMIC BLONDE
So, Atomic Blonde is not the best movie. Let’s be honest here in the trust tree: it’s a little too reliant on the self-aware cliche narrative, a little too eager to shoehorn popular 80s music into literally every scene, and the aesthetic can only carry a muddled confusing spy story so far.
But Charlize Theron kicking ass just about makes up for all of it.
Theron gives and takes some incredible punches throughout Atomic Blonde, but none more so than the showy single-take fight scene in the stairwell at the end of the film’s second act. It’s intentionally showy, just like everything else here, but the film earns said flamboyance in this moment.
