the Good Talk

Jonah Lantto

Our content is not self appeasing. Now more than ever, this world and it’s inhabitants need new perspectives. New ways of thinking about both new challenges that are arising during this critical time in history as well as the persisting issues that have held us from attaining our true potential for far too long. This is a podcast that looks to expose those new perspectives and inspire new ways of thinking.

<

Joined by teachers, authors, artists, musicians, entrepreneurs, and more we laugh, ask questions, and plunge into meaningful, organic conversations. Fueled by honesty, passion, wonder, and excitement – the Good Talk is a fantastic ride.

The Immortals

Austin Lugar

There are a million review shows out there but how many are as ambitious/stupid as The Immortals? Instead of just reviewing the 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die, every episode also reviews one of the 1001 Albums, Food, Songs, Children’s Books, and TV Shows You Must See Before You Die. In addition to that, there’s also a fun relaxed mythology where we take the list titles seriously. The five of us are immortals who have been alive for centuries who can’t die until we review these things. In our 50th episode, the plot twists at the very end of the episode after we finish our weekly reviews… It’s a fun conversational take on art that makes all of the art from all of time accessible and digestible.

The Language of Bromance

Shawn Henninger

The Language of Bromance started because a friendship was slowly disappearing. Richard and Shawn had been friends for close to 10 years but their changing lives caused phone calls to become less and less. So in 2014 Shawn took the idea of the two friends creating a podcast and made it happen.

The first episode was released on June 21st, 2014. Since then, the guys have released an episode every Sunday for 130+ straight weeks. Each week the content they produce grows stronger.

Early on, Richard and Shawn wanted to create content that they’d want to listen to. Each show is a creation they are proud of, and has helped build the LOBarmy. The LOBarmy are the listeners who show up every Sunday to download the newest episode of The Language of Bromance.

Some annual episodes are “Hall LOB” which discusses Comic Con, “Brolloween” which comes out the week of Halloween, “Bro Huddle” at the end of the year to prep for the upcoming year of entertainment, and all episodes that end in 3 or 8 the “Bros become Foes” and have a draft episode.

The guys thought a bit of competition would be fun, so they created the Draft episode. Draft episodes are NFL-style drafts of 7 rounds where the guys flip flop picks on a specific topic. Past topics include: Villain draft, Zombie Apocalypse Draft, Scary Moment Draft, and most recently, the Thankful for Stuff draft.

Being featured as a SmodCo PodU podcast in February was one of the Language of Bromance’s achievements for 2016.

The Language of Bromance is the best example of an Audial Voyeurism podcast, giving listeners the opportunity to tune into a conversation that two friends would have with or without mics. Richard and Shawn are both extremely proud of this show, and they hope you enjoy the Bromance.

The Mixed Marvel Arts Podcast

Brian Bradley

070 – To Me, My X-Men Writers

The Mixed Marvel Arts Podcast is your source for all Marvel-related entertainment including comics, videos games, movies and television. Brian Bradley and Shaun Martineau, two comic reviewers with a love for the House of Ideas, join together to critique Marvel’s latest forms of entertainment. The basis of our show revolves around a monthly #FantasyComicLeague which involves participants drafting Marvel heroes and competing against one another in categories such as power usage, saving civilians and defeating bad guys.

In this episode, our five year anniversary episode, we feature our first ever interview with industry insiders as we talk with two of the writers from X:Men: The Animated Series. We apply our #FantasyComicLeague rules to the much beloved classic show to find out which X-Man was the most powerful and influential in the first season.

Outside of Marvel comics, Brian and Shaun, two hosts a decade apart in age and from different countries, find more common ground in their private lives. Conversation topics tend to include personal relationships, career goals in writing and bonding with family. For anybody with an interest in comics, Fantasy Sports leagues, or sometimes off color pop culture jokes, the Mixed Marvel Arts Podcast has whatever it is you are looking for.

Please follow us on all our social media accounts @MixedMarvelArts on Facebook, Twitter and SnapChat, for your chance to follow along with the #FantasyComicLeague and potentially join in the future. Winners receive a trade paperback collection of their choice. The Mixed Marvel Arts also holds monthly comic giveaways for followers on our social media accounts.

Thank you!

The Modern Manhood Podcast

German Villegas

The reason I began The Modern Manhood Podcast was to ask “What is it to be a man in the modern world?” and that quest just started in my hometown of Edmonton, Alberta and I want to move it beyond my little ‘burg. I think I hit something important because the conversations I’m having with these guy are fun and educational, but have been told that they are vital. I try hard to make the guests the stars. The men I talk to are from all walks of life: writers, politicians, fathers, tradesmen, hip hop musicians, students etc. And they all want to share their stories in what they think of manhood. The stories they tell are many things: funny, emotional, purposeful, vulnerable, educational, but most important, they are genuine. I hope that when people listen to my podcast, they are encouraged to go to another guy and have that conversation with them.

The Officially Street Podcast is a weekly Hip-Hop/Urban/Pop-Culture Podcast-hosted under the genre of Comedy-that is unlike any other Podcast of it’s kind. We are two married men from the Bronx, New York in our late twenties, and we’re also Hip-Hop artists. With the help of our young and single co-host “Cherry Poppins”, we speak very openly about our personal lives, current events, politics, and LOTS more-in a “no holds barred” fashion. Having only started this Podcast 16 months ago, we’ve come an extremely long way in terms of content, sound quality, and production value. We incorporate a handful of authentically executed segments that keep our show organized, and our listeners entertained. We’re funny, educated, honest, and our chemistry is unmatched. Tune in and enjoy!

The Quad M Show

TJ Damon

#041 – Awkward Segues, Pitch Shifting Fun, & Operation: Mincemeat

I feel the best way to answer this question is to address the criteria being used for selecting the winner.

Content: Every week we provide quality material from all four corners of the pop culture world. Commentary on television, movies, music, sports, tech, and so much more. Regular features on the show include the Fred G. Sanford Award for Excellence In Stupidity and Reddit Fun where we run through hilarious Ask Reddit threads. There’s never a dull moment. Our 5 star ratings in iTunes will attest to that. *Please be aware that our show does contain ‘adult content’ (meaning a lot of foul language and potty humor). Hopefully, we will not be downgraded for this. :)*

Sound: One of the aspects of the show I am most proud of is the evolution of our sound quality. During our short existence, we have managed to grow from sounding like we were recording inside of a tin can to having a near radio quality sound. No pops, static, or drops in sound. Crystal clear audio providing an enjoyable experience.

Production Value: We do not use any ‘free’ tech. We record with high end software, mics, and mixer. Our show has likened to a ‘morning drive’ show with our bumpers, segment breaks, and sound effects (all added in post production). I take great care when editing the show to provide the best possible quality.

Now, while I spout off about how great our show is, there is always room to grow. Feel free to check out any of our recent shows as well as the submitted episode and we will welcome any and all critique and advise. I truly believe that we have an outstanding show and winning this contest will provide us an outstanding venue to grow our audience. Thank you for this opportunity.
