Meet The Podcasts! Amateur Podcast Championships 2016

Stuff That Matters With Two Guys That Don’t

Kevin Christy

Hot Water Bills Matter

Why should we win the 2016 Amateur Podcast Championships? What a great question, I’ll try to put together a quick answer. We are a newer podcast and I think we have vastly improved over the last year. This was recommended to us by some people that really believe we have one of the better new shows out there. So if our listeners believe we can win, who are we to deny them of the chance to find out? As for winning, we would love to be named the winner but, there are really good shows in this competition. The judges have their work cut out for them. We just want to thank you for the opportunity to continue to grow our show.

The Back Stories

John Schwendinger (Orange County, CA)
1: The Last Boy – There’s a reason lost boys stopped arriving on the shores of Neverland. This is the story of the last boy.

The Back Stories seeks to create original audio short stories weekly that spans the spectrum of delightful Disney to dark tragedies by justifying the haunting truths behind classic fairytales. Thus, the Back Stories draws a wide range of listeners and seeks to engage them by answering questions about how circumstances ended up the way they did before, after, and during these classic works of fiction through back stories.

The Best Darn Diddly Review Show

Miles Francis

The Best Darn Diddly Review Show is a unique concept that has its roots in possibly the most iconic animated television program of all time, The Simpsons. The podcast is hosted by two life long Simpsons fans, former college roommates and best friends, Miles and Richie, aka MrMostDaysOff and The WizKid. Each week we discuss not one but two classic Simpson’s episodes while we share wild theories and personal (sometimes too personal) stories that pertain to the theme of each episode. Is Maggie a Muggle born witch? Is Homer unbreakable, like that guy in that movie about the guy who can’t break? Every podcast explores questions like these that no one asked, and dives deeply into the heart of what makes The Simpsons more than just a sitcom. The Best Darn Diddly Review Show IS amateur podcasting. We’re powered by hard work, Diet Coke and Google research. The show is just two friends with cheap USB microphones and free downloadable recording software. Our passion for The Simpsons inspired us to record our thoughts about the show we grew up on. While we are very new at this (our first show debuted on September 5th, 2016) we have come a long way in a very short time. Despite having minimal equipment, we have found ways to improve our sound and production value every week through trial and error combined with many hours of Google searching. Recently we have had great guests on our show, such as author Mathew Klickstein and Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing Dr. Andrew Briseño. Our audience has steadily grown each week, but what would put us over the top is the social and digital media push provided to the winner of this contest. That is why The Best Darn Diddly Review Show should win the 2016 Amateur Podcasting Championship!

The Boxers Podcast

Marcos Esteves

The Boxers Podcast should win the 2016 Amateur Podcast Championship because they have committed to offering a quality service to their listeners. A 30-40 minute podcast that is Clean/Funny and informative.

Most people have a difficult time being accessibly funny without being vulgar but these hosts are up for the challenge every single week. They have great chemistry and not only to they bring a smile to the faces of their listeners, they bring knowledge and conviction.

Wes Burhoe has been studying film and stand-up comedy most of his life and it shows.
Marcos Esteves studied acting, had nominal success as a commercial actor in L.A. and is also a writer. The two of them combine to bring a unique, and often funny, perspective to subjects that most other podcasts simply don’t have the ability to tackle so concisely.

With smart reviews, witty banter and punchy Segment Jingles this show has all the makings of a fun experience that will leave you wanting more.

The Cure Podcast

Terrell Mabry

We should win because after being in this a year and couple months, we’ve seen the do’s n dont’s in podcasting. We came across a lot of people from doing interviews while podcasting and made friends with these people. And hearing some of the stories of other podcasters or organizations this influenced us to start a network and we want to just grow our network and put other “under dogs” on and help them grow as we did.

The Dan & Kody Podcast

DANIEL HILL

We’ve consistenly brought the podcasting community entertaining episodes 4 times a week for over a year with positive feedback! We have a strong social media presence across all platforms. We constantly strive to become better comedy podcasters and look to push the envelope whenever possible!

The Dave Bullis Podcast

Dave Bullis

In 2014, I was passed over for a promotion that was rightfully mine at my former day job. When that happened, I resolved to do something for myself so I started a podcast.

Each week I interview a new working professional in the Film and TV industry. Since I started podcasting, my podcast has been recognized several times by publications and blogs where it has been described as WTF Podcast meets The Nerdist.
The episode I’m submitting is where I chat with Don Barris from the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. Don struggled for years before getting his big break, and it really hit a note with me. I know winning this contest will help get me to the next level.

The Elijah Bailey Show

Elijah Bailey

The Elijah Bailey Show is the show that speaks to the hearts of all those that have fandoms and want someone to talk about them with. Richard and Elijah talk about Movies, Television, Anime, Manga, Music, Video Games, Martial Arts, Health and a slew of other things to bring you a hilarious show that you can relate to. The Elijah Bailey Show should win the 2016 Amateur Podcast Championship because its a show that is not only for the Nerd/Geek/Blerds of the world but those that might want to get into the culture or just want info. on the things they love. This podcast isn’t just limited to just topics and segments, we also have interviews from some of the best cosplayers around the world, indie developers & studios, and others that are making a change in not only our community but the world. You’ll also her commentary for t.v. shows, movies and even crossovers with other podcasts. I think The Elijah Bailey Show brings a unique perspective to the podcasting community and offers something different then what you’ve heard before.

The Filmlosophers

Eduardo Villanueva

We love movies! Honestly, we just love everything about it, from pre-production to post-production. We found ourselves constantly talking about every movie that came to our minds, and decided, this year, that we were going to make a podcast out of it! Every week, we have a fresh and fun conversation about whatever topic or movie we are discussing, making for great fun that the whole family can enjoy! We’re still super young- with less than 45 episodes under our belt- but we love what we do, and can’t get enough of it. We want to continue this passion of ours, growing and learning as much as we can, so that we can give fans a conversation that keeps on going, even after we go off the air.
