Matt Reeves Discusses His Personal Approach To ‘The Batman’

Matt Reeves has a clear idea of what he wants to do with Ben Affleck’s first Batman movie. The director has proven his ability behind the camera with movies such as Cloverfield and Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes but before we see what he has planned for Batman, the director still has to promote and release his latest Apes movie. While promoting War For The Planet Of The Apes, Reeves revealed that he hasn’t started to work on The Batman but has a few ideas of what he wants to see the movie become.

Obviously, Reeves couldn’t give many details but makes it very clear that he will take an extremely personal approach to the character. This will be very similar to what Reeves has done with Caesar (Andy Serkis) in the Planet Of The Apes franchise.

See what Reeves had to say below:

“Look, I’m just starting Batman because literally, [War for the Planet of the Apes], as I just said, we finished about a week ago and now we’re publicising it. So, we haven’t even begun on Batman. For me, what’s always important is to try and find a personal way in. In that way, I do feel like I relate to actors. It’s about understanding emotionally, the way something is. I see this parallel between Caesar and Batman, really, which is this idea of these characters who are grappling with their own struggle and trying to do the right thing in an imperfect world and, so, I do really relate it to that kind of idea.”

Looking at what Reeves has been able to create with Caesar, it’s likely that he will have no problem creating a more personal story for the dark knight. The Batman currently doesn’t have an official release date and there are no recent developments in terms of story and casting.
