This series will be a brief, semi-comedic review of the CW superhero shows. You can check out last week’s review post here. The only shows discussed will be ‘Arrow’, ‘Flash’, and ‘Supergirl’. There WILL be some spoilers discussed, so only look at the reviews you’re up to date on!
Supergirl, “Shelter from the Storm” (May 14th)
There’s a lot happening in this episode, as SUPERGIRL nears the end of season three. Bringing Samantha’s mom back isn’t much more than a reminder of how confusing the Space Witch rules are. Why do self-professed “World Killers” have such strict codes of who to kill? The renewed love triangle problems with Mon-El are not enough of a draw either. While the continuation of the Supergirl-Lena struggle isn’t super enthralling, the final beat in the elevator is worth it. The overall episode is kind of weak, but there are some solid moments along the way.
SCORE: 6.5/10 Dirt Collections
The Flash, “Think Fast” (May 15th)
Splitting up Team Flash results in several compelling storylines. The exact logistics of Flash Time are still a bit confusing, but the specific Barry vs Cisco conflict works well. The continued focus on Killer Frost’s origins has been a consistently solid story line for Caitlin. This episode features a fantastic David Ramsey cameo (though it’s crazy FLASH keeps using the stretchy-shape-shifting for basically blackface). Overall, all the progressing plot lines make for an exciting build-up for what will be a compelling finale.
SCORE: 7/10 Pizzas
Arrow, “Life Sentence” (May 17th)
The season finale of ARROW ends on a rather anti-climactic note. So much of the episode feels like a watered-down version of what has come before. The action shots, including the big building explosion, is stuff we saw last week. Diaz sticking around seems like a mistake, like when The Governor stuck around halfway through THE WALKING DEAD’s fourth season. Oliver has really jumped around as far as whether he wants to be the Arrow, or a family man. The ending of him going off to prison is just like the middle of FLASH’s fourth season. Even the death of Quentin is spoiled from years of Laurel or Sara either dying or returning. ARROW’s sixth season finale doesn’t do much but remind us of things we’ve seen many times before.
