While Elvis is known as the King, Berry is seen as the first rock artist. His style combines rock, R&B, and country. Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and Keith Richards cite him as an influence when they were growing up.

His hits include “Johnny B Goode”, “Hail Hail Rock and Roll”, and “You Never Can Tell”. Other songs are “Rock and Roll Music”, “Roll Over Beethoven”, and “Maybellene.”

Apart from his songs, Berry is also known for creating the famous “duck walk”. This is a move that has widely been imitated.

In the 80s and 90s, Berry’s got a boost among a new generation. “Johnny B. Goode” features in Back To The Future, and “You Never Can Tell” appears in Pulp Fiction.

During the last decade, he made fewer concert appearances. His son told Rolling Stone that Berry had a bout with pneumonia at an earlier date.

At the time of his death, Berry had been recording a new album- his first in 38 years. Titled “Chuck” it was to be a tribute to his wife of 68 years.

Berry will be sorely missed.
