Monkeys Fighting Robots

WINNER: CINEMATOGRAPHY – BLADE RUNNER 2049, Roger A. Deakins

ROGER A. DEAKINS: Thank you, thank you, I guess I better say something or else they’ll give me a jet ski. I don’t see myself on a jet ski, somehow. I want share this with my wife of 27 years, James…whatever. I want to share it with Andrew, Broderick and Denis Villeneuve. You know, I really love my job. I’ve been doing it a long time as you can see. But you know, one of the reasons I really love it is the people I work with, both in front of the camera and behind the camera. Some of my crew on “Blade Runner,” I’ve been working with for over thirty years, and others I met for the first time in Budapest. And this is for every one of them, every one of them. In fact, I gotta say it’s for us, because it was a team. It was really a team effort. Thank you, thank you, very much.

Monkeys Fighting Robots

WINNER: WRITING (ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY) – GET OUT, Written by Jordan Peele

JORDAN PEELE: Okay, thank you. You guys are going to mess up my jet ski, hold up. This means so much to me. I stopped writing this movie about 20 times because I thought it was impossible. I thought it wasn’t going to work. I thought no one would ever make this movie. But I kept coming back to it because I knew if someone let me make this movie, that people would hear it and people would see it. So I want to dedicate this to all the people who raised my voice and let me make this movie. Donna, Ron at Universal, everybody, QC, Sean, Ted, Bea, Jason at Blumhouse. You guys, thank you so much. To the cast and crew, I love you, thank you so much. My wife, who supported me through this whole process. My mother who taught me to love even in the face of hate. And to everybody who went and saw this movie. Everybody who bought a ticket, who told somebody to buy a ticket, thank you. I love you for shouting out at the theater, for shouting out at the screen. Let’s keep going, Brian Roberts, thank you. I love you all, thank you so much.

Review: THE WALKING DEAD “The Lost and The Plunderers” brings vengeance to those who defy

Monkeys Fighting Robots

There’s no time to mourn as we move the story along in tonight’s episode of The Walking Dead. The segments were almost mini-movies focusing on different characters, giving us some objective as to where the rest of the season could be headed.

Simon’s defiance of Negan gave an interesting twist with eliminating the entire landfill crew. We all know that disregarding Negan isn’t taken lightly, and I’m sure this will eventually bite him in the ass. The splattered blue paint on his boots was a nice detail, as Michonne found Carl and Judith’s blue paint handprints on the front porch before she and Rick departed Alexandria.

We know that Aaron is great at recruiting allies, which is why I believe that he’s staying behind at Oceanside, despite their specific instruction not to return. He doesn’t want interference from Enid or Maggie; he does well with engagement by working alone.

Jadis’s breakdown was brilliant. The costume change with her wearing white is the complete opposite of her normal junkyard attire, and her speech was normal and unbroken. We see a new person, and we’re unsure of her future.

I wasn’t surprised by Negan’s reaction to Carl’s death, and I wasn’t surprised that Carl had written a note to Negan. But, it looks like Carl’s wish of peace between Rick and Negan won’t be taking place… at least not anytime soon.

Who do you see Jadis siding with now that she’s alone? Do you think that Aaron can convince the Oceanside women to join their fight?

Lotor Steals The Show In VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER: SEASON 5

Monkeys Fighting Robots

The Netflix original series, Voltron: Legendary Defender has returned for a fifth season. Just as it seems like things couldn’t get more intense with this show, the creative team found a way to kick it up a notch and make these six episodes an intense ride which is over far too soon. How does it stack up when compared to the other four seasons?

Voltron

WRITING

It’s hard to imagine saying previous seasons used their episodes well when compared to this one. Every one of these six episodes features blink, and you’ll miss something important moments. By the end of the second episode, the status quo is shaken up, and things will never be the same. Insane isn’t it?

Lotor was an incredibly exciting character to watch this season. Given his previous actions and the evil, he committed in other Voltron series this new one incarnation is proving to be something else entirely. It almost gives the impression he honestly isn’t as evil as his father, but there always is a chance for more developments in the future.

Every character gets a bit of development this season, but it seems like two don’t get a moment to shine. Both Hunk and Coran didn’t get the screen time they had in previous seasons. At least not compared to the rest of the cast. Still, this is a minor detraction made up by the incredible scenes which take place in these six episodes.

Voltron

ARTWORK

There seems to be a bit of a discrepancy in this season’s animation. For every moment of fluid action and art which is good enough to be framed and put on the wall, there seems to be a scene or two which just doesn’t feel right. Characters seem less polished in a few moments, and it is just a tiny bit distracting. Still, the good moments outweigh the bad but it is important to point out how these animation errors aren’t’ going unnoticed.

voltron

MUSIC

The music continues to find ways to elicit the right emotions for the exact scenes. When the scenes need to be tense, the music feels like a heartbeat throbbing through the speakers. When moments are funny, the music helps you to laugh along with the humor. In short, the soundtrack continues to be inspiring.

Voltron

CONCLUSION

This show isn’t running out of steam anytime soon. The showrunners know exactly what they are doing and keep creating an unforgettable series which isn’t just for fans of the franchise but for any who hold animation close to their heart. Now comes the wait for more episodes. Luckily, Netflix already announced season 6 will be here on June 18th, 2018.

90th Oscars Speech: HEAVEN IS A TRAFFIC JAM ON THE 405, Frank Stiefel

Monkeys Fighting Robots

WINNER: DOCUMENTARY (SHORT SUBJECT) – HEAVEN IS A TRAFFIC JAM ON THE 405, Frank Stiefel

FRANK STIEFEL: My kids are hosting an Oscar party which I think probably just got a lot louder. This is amazing for so many reasons. The source of this film is the source of everything that’s gone well for me for the last forty years, it’s my wife BJ Dockweiler. To Ting Poo, Casey Price, Paul Maroon, Masaki Yokochi, Ben Marias, thank you for giving the film what I couldn’t. To Mindy, who’s somewhere up there. Mindy, I’m really proud of this, but I always knew, but I always knew that the only reason people would care about it is because we all care about you. Thank you.

90th Oscars Speech: THE SILENT CHILD, Chris Overton and Rachel Shenton

Monkeys Fighting Robots

WINNER: SHORT FILM (LIVE ACTION) – THE SILENT CHILD, Chris Overton and Rachel Shenton

RACHEL SHENTON: Oh god, hello. I made a promise to our six-year-old lead actress that I’d sign this speech but my hands are shaking a little bit so I apologize. Thank you. Our movie is about a deaf child being born into a world of silence. It’s not exaggerated or sensationalized for the movie. This is happening, millions of children all over the world live in silence and face communication barriers. And particularly access to education. So, deafness is a silent disability. You can’t see it and it’s not life-threatening, so I want to say the biggest of thank you’s to the Academy for allowing us to put this in front of a mainstream audience.

CHRIS OVERTON: This was such a team effort so I’ve got to say thank you to our parents for making and selling cupcakes so we could…

RACHEL SHENTON: Thanks, Mum.

CHRIS OVERTON: for helping us finish the film. Thanks to everyone who backed our Indiegogo campaign. Thank you Vannessa Johnstone, Terry Murphy, all our executive producers, Danny Ormerod, everyone at Slick Showreels, and Slick Films. All our incredible cast and crew, Maisie Sly, Julie Foy, Rebecca Harris, Ali Farahani, we couldn’t do it without you. But lastly, my fiancée, Rachel Shenton, it’s really your hard work for the last 12 years that has really made this project authentic. Thank you so much, guys.

90th Oscars Speech: DUNKIRK, Lee Smith

Monkeys Fighting Robots

WINNER: FILM EDITING – DUNKIRK, Lee Smith

LEE SMITH: I just want to say, this is THE most awesome thing that can happen to a guy like me. I really just want to start by thanking Christopher Nolan who, [he points to Nolan] they moved me from over there to sit with him. Because Chris is an editor himself. I mean, he doesn’t handle the actual equipment and I’m very, very happy for that. His fabulous wife Emma, always supportive, great producer. Incredible, I mean, “Dunkirk” was truly the most amazing film and I’m very fortunate to have worked on it. I’d also like to thank my beautiful wife, sitting over there, Kimberly. My daughter up in the nosebleed section, wherever. I’m wrapping up, I’m wrapping up. Melanie Ramsayer, John Lee, my editorial assistants, Warner Bros., the Academy, cannot talk any quicker. I’m an editor, I should be able to this very quickly. Matthew McConaughey, awesome. Thank you.

90th Oscars Speech: COCO, Lee Unkrich, Darla K. Anderson, Adrian Molina, Anthony Gonzalez

Monkeys Fighting Robots

WINNER: ANIMATED FEATURE FILM – COCO, Lee Unkrich and Darla K. Anderson

DARLA K. ANDERSON: Thank you to the Academy. We are so happy. “Coco” is proof that art can change and connect the world and this can only be done when we have a place for everyone and anyone who feels like an “other” to be heard. This is dedicated with enormous love to my gigantic, interwoven family and most especially, my wife, my rock Kori Rae.

ADRIAN MOLINA (co-director and writer): Love and thanks to my family, my Latino community, to my husband Ryan. Each for expanding my sense of what it means to be proud of who you are and where you’re from. We hope the same thing for everyone who connected with this film.

LEE UNKRICH: We share this with our immensely talented cast and crew as well as the executive teams at Disney and Pixar. Thanks for the support of my wife Laura, my three kids, Hannah, Alice, Max. My entire family, I love you. And the biggest thank you of all to the people of Mexico. “Coco” would not exist without your endlessly beautiful culture and traditions. With “Coco” we tried to take a step forward toward a world where all children can grow up seeing characters in movies that look and talk and live like they do. Marginalized people deserve to feel like they belong. Representation matters.

ANTHONY GONZALEZ (voice of Miguel): Muchísimas gracias a todos y que viva México!
