An official press release came out earlier today from Dimension Films, confirming that Michael Myers will be back in Halloween Returns, a quasi-remake, reboot, or recalibration of the slasher who has appeared in ten film versions. Maybe more, I’m not quite sure these days.
“Dimension Films and Trancas International Films have officially announced today that production will start in July on Halloween Returns, a new big screen franchise entry following notorious killer Michael Myers. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, the writers behind a number of the Saw films, have written the script, which is said to offer “a terrifying new installment of the classic franchise originated by John Carpenter”. Dunstan will also direct the film. Malek Akkad is set to produce with Matthew Stein as executive producer. The log line is currently being kept under wraps.
Michael Myers has taken a long break from the big screen and we know fans are eager to see him return. We are excited to be back in business with Trancas and look forward to bringing one of the scariest installments of this classic franchise to audiences worldwide,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman The Weinstein Company & Dimension Films.”
Are fans really eager to see Michael Myers return? And better yet, are they clamoring to see him appear in a film from Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, the writers of the last four Saw movies? Tell me one thing that happened in those films worth remembering.
The last time we saw Michael Myers was in Rob Zombie’s over-the-top geek show bloodletting Halloween 2, which was even worse than the firstHalloween 2! Of course, John Carpenter’s original is a true classic, and Myers has appeared in a few decent Halloween films over the last four decades, from Zombie’s first remake to the campy and nostalgic H:20. But there have been so many watered down entries into the franchise, so many forgettable sequels on top of sequels, and seemingly endless reshaping of the films and the character (remember the one with Paul Rudd? No? It’s ok.), that the character has passed his prime.
If you ask me, I say let’s put Michael Myers on the shelf and move on to something else. Then again, nobody is asking me…
Netflix posted an update on their blog stating that major upgrades are coming the the web interface. Finding a film on Netflix could be the most difficult task for couch potatoes.
Today, we are excited to unveil the new Netflix website. It’s our first major update in four years, and it’s an experience that has been built from the ground up to make it faster and easier to discover something great to watch for our millions of members around the world.
Over the past four years, web browsers have changed a lot, becoming more sophisticated and allowing for richer visuals and animations. How our members use Netflix has changed too. We’re spending more and more time using mobile and tablet apps.
With the new Netflix website, we’ve created a richer, more visual experience, and a website that works more like an app and less like a series of linked web pages. Information appears in-line and in context rather than on a separate page, which makes exploring the catalog faster than ever before.
When you hover your mouse over a title, you will now see a slideshow of images from that movie or show. We hope this slideshow will give you a better feel for what the show is about than reading the description alone.
Clicking on the title or synopsis opens an inline details pane, allowing you to browse episodes and read details and reviews. You can also explore similar titles by clicking More Like This, or jump off to titles from the same cast, genre or mood.
Scrolling through rows is now much faster, with a mouse-click advancing a full row at a time.
We’ve designed the website to work whether you are using a mouse, trackpad, or a touch screen. Touch screen users can tap to play or open details, and swipe to scroll through rows of titles.
The website is rolling out globally starting today and may take up to two weeks to reach all members. A small number of members on older versions of popular browsers will be prompted to upgrade their browser before they can access the new site.
We hope you enjoy the new Netflix website. It has been an exciting project for us, and we are thrilled to share it with you.
Doctor Strange is set to hit theaters on November 4, 2016. Since Marvel has opted out of Hall H this year, lets enjoy this fan made teaser by David Johns.
Doctor Strange is directed by Scott Derrickson and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo.
The season finally of Game of Thrones was Sunday night and a fan favorite stopped breathing at the end of the episode. Jon Snow was killed by the Night Watch. The internet then exploded with ways that Snow could have survived. Melisandre and the Lord Light seem to be easiest way to bring Snow back from the dead. But, according to Kit Harington in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, this is the end for his character.
“I had a sit-down with Dan and David, we did the Tony Soprano walk [letting an actor know they’re being whacked]. And they said, “Look, you’re gone, it’s done.” They sat me down and said, “This is how it is.” If anything in the future is not like that, then I don’t know about it – it’s only in David and Dan and George’s heads. But I’ve been told I’m dead. I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season. So that’s all I can tell you, really,” said Harington.
“Game of Thrones” just wrapped up its fifth season with the death of a few characters and the next plot twist for others.
What did you think of the fifth season?
Did they cross the line with Sansa or Shireen?
What character would have to be killed off for you stop watching the show?
In what has to be the most obvious news of the century, Chris Pratt has confirmed he will be back for the Jurassic World sequel, and probably for more than one.
Pratt told Entertainment Weekly he would reprise his role as Own Grady in the Jurassic World sequel, this coming on the heels of the news that Jurassic World had the biggest opening weekend in box-office history with over $500 million worldwide. When asked if he is already signed on, Pratt said “I am. They have me for I think 38 movies or something.”
Chris Pratt is the new go-to actor for global blockbusters, and while we aren’t sure who is directing the follow up to Colin Trevorrow’s massive hit, we at least know Owen Grady will be back. Jurassic World is the biggest hit of the year thus far, one of the biggest hits of all time, and people either love it or they are not fans, as evidenced by the varying opinions right here on MFR…
The Leftovers second season teaser was released a few days ago hinting at a kind of sideways reboot of season 1. While several of the actors from the first season will be back, this season of The Leftovers will change locations and shift the focus of the story.
There is also a brief synopsis for season 2 as well, which further hints at the change of scenery:
“More than three years ago, 2% of the world’s population inexplicably vanished. 140 million people, gone in an instant. No country, no state, no city was spared, except for one small town in eastern Texas. Population: 9261. Departures: Zero. Pack your bags. Season 2 of The Leftovers premieres this fall.”
I was a fan of The Leftovers, but perhaps due more to the fact that every episode left a dozen open-ended questions. The mystery grew to a maddening fever pitch in every hour, but remained steadily intriguing thanks to solid performances from Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, and the rest of the cast. Theroux and Brenneman will return for season 2, as will Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, and Christopher Eccleston.
Season 2 of The Leftovers will premiere this fall on HBO.
The Flash was many things in season 1, but Barry Allen certainly was not known for his skills as a casanova, so it a new love interest may sound like a stretch. However, according to TV Line, that is just what the Flash season 2 will provide for Barry Allen. Allen, the real identity of the Flash, will be meeting Wendy as season 2 regular. She is described as a “spunky, fun and funny” love interest for the Flash. We have been told to expect a Felcity-like character.
Though, for anyone who followed the Flash season 1, Iris West will one day become Iris West-Allen in the future. This was according to Gideon, the AI that Reverse-Flash utilized to review any affects his past decision had on the future. So, it certainly seems a little curious that the Flash will presumably not start dating his future hyphenated wife, but it is a bit too early to get too deep into a season that is five months away.
For any the Flash’s fans who have no clue who Wendy is, Comic Book Resources gives us some theories. First of all, similar to the Dr. Harrison Wells character was in the first season of the flash, Wendy will be for season 2 of the flash.
In DC Comics, but not necessarily the Flash comics, there is a character named Wendy Harris. Wendy was a sidekick of the Superfriends, which involved with flash’s justice league compatriots. Later, she became the protégé of Batgirl, and become the DC character Proxy.
As far as a new love interest for the Flash, that seems too often the beaten trail, as Batgirl and all of that has not been introduce to this DC / CW TV universe yet. In the New 52 storyline for the Flash there is however a lab assistant for the Central City Police Department named Patty, who happens to be a love interest for the Flash. It gets confusing, but only if you drag all of the Flash or other DC Comics into it.
For now the Flash TV show fans will just have to wait, and hope this romance fades like the journalist love interest, West-Allen can re-chart its course in season 2.
Sense8 does not suck anymore… At least for now. I’m still not completely won over but it sure has gotten better. But this episode was really good and I wanna go through the synopsis real fast to get to what I liked about this episode and how it reinvigorated my interest in this show.
Capheus talks about how he wants to be a zebra so he won’t have to worry about the hardships of life. He then goes with his friend to haggle some better quality Aids Medicine for his mom. His friend is the best hustler in the world! They go to a bad neighborhood to try to get more business for their bus when it gets robbed and they end up stealing the AID’s medicine. Knowing he most likely can’t stand up to the thieves he goes anyway. His best friend offers to come with him but Capheus denies his help unable to risk his friend’s life. Once he rams into the thieves with the bus he uses his sensate abilities to tap into Sun and Will to deal with the thieves. He doesn’t get al of them but he gets most of them and his moms medicine back.
Sun is waiting for her dad’s call all day until she says “Fuck it!” and leaves the business. But not before leaving a huge hole in the secretaries desk, with her fist. She goes back to her old master (aka Mr. Miyagi) and resumes her underground boxing career. It’s here where she links with Capheus and helps him fight off the people who stole his moms medicine.
Nomi is now being held captive in the hospital. And after hearing from Jonas that they intend to lobotomize her she is more terrified than ever. But she really can’t do anything about it. She is on the operating table when there is a fire in the hospital. The procedure is halted and they return her to her room. She figures it is her girlfriend who said she would “Burn this hospital down before they touch that beautiful brain of yours.”
Kala goes back to work even though her wedding is in two days and is in meeting about counterfeit drugs and how they are extremely harmful.
Riley throws away all her drugs and tries to start a new slate. Until she meets up with some old friends who are texting her to do drugs. Saying its the only way to deal with this fucked up world.
Wolfgang isn’t really in this episode.
Will looks through some suspicious papers and helps Capheus out with shooting at the robbers.
After figuring out an agreement with the woman who now knows Lito’s gay secret, he agree to continue the farce of dating her. But she reveals she is supposed to be engaged to a dangerous mob guy. Lito meets with him to try and clear the air but is held at knife point jokingly, and left with a very ominous threat.
So thats what happened, and it was a lot. They are finally starting to incorporate similar elements that span across different stories, and I really love that. It shows that these characters are connected by something more than their ability. It seems to me that there is all something they are lacking and by being sensates with one another they will hopefully be able to find strength and come to complete each other to the point where they won’t need to be sensate anymore. At least thats where I hope its going.
Cafes might be my favorite character. One because his story I think is the most compelling and because he is probably the only character with visible growth so far. It’s very intentional to start the episode with him talking about wanting to be a zebra. It shows that he’s had it with this life and doesn’t really want to fight for what it will take to be happy. He’s just willing to accept that fate for himself. But because he has his mom, he’s forced into action to not be a person who just sits by and doesn’t try. Because he loves her so much, he has to act. I really like it that a certain aspect of his character forces another aspect to come out that he didn’t really know was there. This is some damn good character writing!
As for the sensate ability itself, I’m still really confused on how it all works. The scene with Sun boxing while Capheus fights the robbers makes it seem like they were doing the same movements. But Sun was fighting one guy and Capheus was fighting like four. So it doesn’t really make sense that their moves would be the same. Also apparently they can look at each other and talk? This ability needs to be fleshed out more. Still little to no advance on the plot, but at least something happened where the ability was actually needed to effect one of the stories. So even though I seriously would like the plot to move faster, this was still an okay episode. So for now Sense8 does not suck, but we’ll see.
Constantine, the little NBC show that could, made a valiant effort to survive and Matt Ryan was certainly a big part of its success. Ryan, who played the titular character John Constantine, and show runner Daniel Cerone heavily participated in the Save Constantine Twitter campaign that sought to save the fledgling NBC series. Constantine producers searched far and wide for a replacement network after NBC stopped John Constantine’s show at 13 episodes, and subsequently canceled the DC / Vertigo Comics based show.
Constantine led Matt Ryan was mum for four days following the announcement of the John Constantine’s official demise, but a June 11 tweet show that he could not remain silent for much longer.
“Very disappointed that we are not continuing this journey, will miss playing john. You guys never gave up, I thank you all.”
Constantine fans, Matt Ryan, and Daniel Cerone held strong and pushed for the show to have a second season. The valiant effort ended June 7 with a long, heartfelt status update to Constantine fans, that required a Twitter functioned known as Twitlonger.
“I promised I’d share news when I had it — sadly, that news is not good. The cast and writers of Constantine are being released from their contracts. The studio tried to find a new home for the show, for which we’re forever grateful, but those efforts didn’t pan out. I’m sorry, I wasn’t provided any information on the attempts to sell the show elsewhere.”
So, Constantine’s journey into TV is dead and not being resurrected anytime soon, but that does not mean the demonologist and exorcist can not keep looking for the right spell to make it happen. As far as Constantine’s Matt Ryan, many consider him to be a frontrunner for John Constantine in Guillermo Del Toro’s Dark Universe, which is based of the DC Comics series Justice League Dark. Constantine: The Hellblazer just started up as well.
So, who knows what the future may bring, but until then, the Constantine FX company leaves you with these awesome behind the scenes videos.
