BREAKING: ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Set for 2020

Legendary CEO, Thomas Tull, and Kevin Tsujihara, Chairman and CEO, Warner Bros. announced three films today; Kong: Skull Island in 2017, Godzilla 2 in 2018, and Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020.

“Audiences really responded to Godzilla,” stated Tull. “Today, I’m excited to reveal that film was only the beginning of an epic new entertainment universe. As a lifelong fan of these characters, I’ve always wanted to see the ultimate showdown, and today we’re pleased to be announcing that and more.”

“Working with our partners at Legendary, we enjoyed tremendous creative and commercial success with `Godzilla,’” said Tsujihara. “It’s great to be able to revisit these characters and help create a franchise with so many creative possibilities for filmmakers. Fans love these big, globally iconic films and it doesn’t get any bigger than this.”

Kong: Skull Island stars Tom Hiddleston, Sam Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman, Tian Jing, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Shea Whigham, and Toby Kebbell. Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and written by Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy, and Derek Connolly, KONG: SKULL ISLAND will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce with Mary Parent. Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod will executive produce. Warner Bros. will distribute the film in 3D and IMAX 3D on March 10, 2017.

Godzilla 2 will be written by Max Borenstein and directed by Gareth Edwards. Legendary is producing with Mary Parent, and Alex Garcia will executive produce. The film is set to be released by Warner Bros. on June 8, 2018.

Godzilla vs. Kong will be released in 2020.

‘Star War: The Force Awakens’ Tickets Go On Sale October 19

According to multiple sources tickets for Star Wars: The Force Awakens go on sale October 19, the same day a new trailer hits for the film, according to Screen Crush.

No official announcement has been made from Lucasfilm and or Disney.

TheForce.net message boards users are saying that AMC Theaters managers in the United States and Canada have reportedly informed staff of an October 19 pre-sale date.

The theater chain Cinemark made an announcement on Facebook about the Star War pre-sale but quickly took the post down.

Episode VII in the Star Wars Saga, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, opens in theaters December 18, 2015.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan & Abrams, features a cast including actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. They will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.

The film is being produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk, and John Williams returns as the composer.

Nova Will Not Be In ‘Guardians the Galaxy Vol. 2’

Filmmaker James Gunn held a Facebook Q&A and answered questions about Guardians the Galaxy Vol. 2 and filmmaking.

Gunn was adamant that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will not build up to Avengers: Infinity War and the sequel would be a stand alone film. He is not concerned about the Avengers film.

Gunn mentioned that Guardians the Galaxy Vol. 2 will take about 10-months to shoot, starting February in Atlanta and he will add one more character to the main cast of the film. Adam Warlock’s name was brought up during the conversation but Gunn would not comment on his involvement.

“I’m not going to give names and I won’t give numbers either, but there will be at least one new character in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. You guys gotta wait and see… Everything’s going to be different in the ‘Infinity Wars.’ I’m a lot more concerned with ‘Vol. 2’ than I am with ‘Infinity Wars.’ The way the movie [’Vol. 2’] is structured and made – it really is a story unto itself. It’s not about leading up to anything else. It’s about the Guardians and their lives,” said Gunn.

An earthling version of Nova will not be in the sequel.

“There will be no other humans being earthlings besides Quill,” said Gunn.

FRIGHT FEATURES: Is ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’ a Good Film? It’s Hard to Tell

Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Francis Ford Coppola’s operatic and wildly spastic adaptation of the author’s epistolary novel is, despite its warts, never dull. To be fair this film version is arguably the most accurate spiritual portrayal of Stoker’s work, which many forget is a salacious, gothic pulp novel in its own right. But is the film good? It’s maybe the most difficult adaptation to categorize down the fine lines of “good” and “bad,” because it truly depends on what you appreciate. For every moment that works there are confusingly bombastic directorial decisions and unhinged editing which seem to upend any momentum. It stops and starts more than any film I can remember, and yet, there is some real magic here.

Bram Stoker's Dracula

The opening act is by far the most compelling section of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. There is the prologue, showing Vlad the warrior curse God and become the Prince of Darkness – which contains some wonderful visual work – after his wife hurls herself from atop the castle walls. Then we hop forward a couple hundred years and meet Jonathan Harker, the young lawyer traveling to Count Dracula’s Transylvania castle to work out a real estate deal. Keanu Reeves plays Harker, and is a curious choice for the role. Reeves has never been a fit in period work, and even Coppola has said his casting was pressure to get a young, hot actor in the role to put butts in seats. That being said, Reeves’ strange attempt at a stuffy accent and wooden acting somehow works to juxtapose the insane theatrics he finds himself thrust into once he meets the Count. It’s grown on me ever so slightly, and it has evolved over the years.

Once Harker arrives at Castle Dracula, all bets are off. It’s here we meet the most fascinating embodiment of the vampire, who changes looks throughout. Gary Oldman is game for the role, and he plays it up with a macabre glee. Harker’s spiral down the dark tunnels of madness in this early act is both brilliant and extravagant, setting a feverish gothic stage. But once the action moves from Transylvania to London, the tapestry of the picture unravels. We meet Mina (Winona Ryder, perfect) and Lucy, we build some strange sexual undertones, and the structure of the film spirals out of control through visual flourishes and extravagance Coppola had never before been so distracted by. It all seems to crescendo when Lucy is raped by Dracula, in wolf form no less. The film moves from a fluid opera of death into a frenetic, over-edited mess of confused sexual nihilism; the focus dissipates. To be fair to the jumpy structure, Coppola keeps the narrative episodic to honor Stoker’s epistolary style in the novel, but he could have left a few things out and mad some choices along the way.

That structure is what stops and starts the film. It is too episodic to congeal as a coherent whole. The early scenes work magic, then the next scenes where a dapper young Dracula woos Mina at the town fair plod along. Part of the problem lies within the strange chemistry between Oldman and Ryder. I won’t say there is no chemistry, it’s there, but it’s stodgy and weird. There were reports from the set that Oldman and Ryder, who were pleasant with one another in the production stages of the film, showed up day one of filming seemingly hating each other with no explanation as to why. Maybe that plays into the odd chemistry between the two, who knows.

Van Helsing

And then there is Anthony Hopkins as Van Helsing the famous vampire hunter. Hopkins plays up Van Helsing as some sort of madman, chewing scenery left behind by Oldman. It is simultaneously a distracting and captivating, amusing performance. In that sense it fits in with the rest of the film, at once all over the map and exactly what the film wants. To be fair, Hopkins’ portrayal fits the manic nature of the character in Stoker’s novel. Van Helsing’s scenes with the trio of gentleman callers sometimes seem to be happening exclusively from the romance between Dracula and Mina, jarring loose any forward momentum.

There is a precise intent in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, though that very precise intent requires the film to lose track of itself more than once. This intent of precision is not fully executed, but despite the stop-and-start manner of the film certain scenes are decidedly powerful. First and foremost, the film is a romance, and it knows this. And Coppola frames this love story as a true operatic narrative, full of grandiose gestures and theatrics. It works in the vein of a stage play all too often to fit together as a complete film.

And yet, I want to like Bram Stoker’s Dracula. I absolutely yearn to love it, because of what it has to offer. Perhaps that’s what keeps me coming back to a film that continually leaves me wanting in the end.

Spider-Man joins the Disney family this November as a greeter in the new Super Hero HQ at Disneyland. Times must be tough for Peter Parker.

When the reimagined Super Hero HQ opens this fall at Disneyland park, everyone’s favorite web slinger is swinging in for the occasion. That’s right! Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be making his Disneyland Resort debut in a heroic new character greeting location, where you can snap a photo, grab an autograph or just thank him for keeping us safe from the likes of Doctor Octopus and the Green Goblin!

Super Hero HQ is the West Coast home base of some of the greatest heroes in the universe. It’s the place to go, not only to meet some of those heroes, but to discover the super hero in yourself. You can tour Treasures of Asgard and cross the Bifrost to come face-to-face with the mighty Avenger, Thor. Virtually suit up as Iron Man and check out the Hall of Armor at Iron Man Tech Presented by Stark Industries, play some of the latest games in the Game Center and pick up some Super Hero gear to take with you on your journey home.

Universal Studios theme parks own the rights to several Marvel characters east of the Mississippi, so don’t expect Spider-Man to show up at Disney World in Orlando anytime soon.

Could Universal’s New Version of ‘The Mummy’ Swap Genders?

Universal Studios are still working on building their interconnected monster universe, rebooting their famous collection of horror icons into new versions. Despite my own reservations about the (UMU?), there is still hope to make this something interesting.

The first film in this new universe is The Mummy, and it seems now that the gender identity of the mummy itself depends on the casting. The Hollywood Reporter has the report that director Alex Kurtzman and screenwriter Jon Spaihts have a couple of storylines working. In one of the stories the mummy is male, and in one female. It all depends on who excels in the casting.

This is an interesting idea, one that might help the diversity of the Universal Monster Universe in a progressive society Hollywood intent on creating more diversity. It’s a novel idea, switching genders in some iconic intellectual properties, and I don’t see an issue here. What I have issue with is the general notion of recreating these legendary icons of horror cinema in an attempt to tie them all together. It could work, and it worked in the originals as The Wolf Man, Dracula, and Frankenstein often crossed paths. I’m just not excited about the brain trust of Kurtzman and Fast and Furious writer Chris Morgan behind the project. They feel like ill-fitting parts.

Hopefully I’m wrong. I’m holding out hope. Let’s all hope this new version is closer to the 1932 version, and it doesn’t remind us one bit about Brendan Fraser.

Second Source Reporting ‘Moon Knight’ Netflix Series In the Works

Back in mid-September PeelTheOrange.net reported that a Moon Knight series was in the works for Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on TV. This was considered a rumor until a second source surfaced. Heroic Hollywood is that second source, as they are reporting that a Moon Knight series is in the works as well.

At the nine-minute mark of the Collider’s Heroes video cast Jon Schnepp, Vito Lapicolla, and Umberto Gonzalez start to discuss the next phase of Marvel films and Gonzalez mentions that Moon Knight is in development for Netflix.

“Moon Knight is actually being developed for Netflix. Since he is their version of Bruce Wayne. It’s one of their staples that they’re developing for their Netflix strategy,” said Gonzalez.

There has been no official announcement by Marvel but the rumor mill is getting hot!

Miley Cyrus Is Planning A Naked Concert

Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips announced on Instagram that Miley Cyrus and his band are planning a naked concert where everyone, including the spectators are in their birthday suits for her music video “The Milky Milky Milk.”

“Oh fuck..!!! @mileycyrus is planning a show where her, the band (us) and the audience are all COMPLETELY naked with milk (well white stuff that looks like milk) is being being spewed everywhere . . . It’s a video ( in the works) for #mileycyrusandherdeadpetz song “The Milky Milky Milk.”

Cyrus has yet to confirm the naked plans.
