FX’s X-Men Series ‘Legion’ Previews At NYCC

Monkeys Fighting Robots

FX premiered the first half of the pilot for its upcoming series Legion at New York Comic Con, according to Variety.

Legion follows David Haller (Dan Stevens, The Guest), an extremely powerful mutant who has multiple personalities.

Executive Producer Noah Hawley (FX’s Fargo) discussed the origins of the series during a panel on Sunday:

FX released a teaser trailer during San Diego Comic-Con in July. It features Haller in a one-on-one session with The Interrogator (Hamish Linklater) inter-cut with various visions he has. Watch that video below.

The series is a Marvel TV and 20th Century Fox co-production. Fox owns the rights to X-Men/mutants, while Disney owns Marvel.

Aubrey Plaza, Rachel Keller, Katie Aselton, Jeremie Harris and Bill Irwin also star.

Legion is set to debut in 2017 on FX.

NYCC: Marvel Is Planning ‘Something’ With Blade

Monkeys Fighting Robots

During a New York Comic Con panel for Underworld: Blood Wars, Kate Beckinsale hinted that a Blade-related project is in the works.

Beckinsale, who plays Selene in the vampire versus werewolves franchise, was asked about a possible crossover with Eric Brooks.

“No. We had that idea. No. They’re [Marvel] busy. They’re doing something with Blade.”

The last time Marvel’s vampire hunter appeared on the big screen was 2004’s Blade: Trinity. Marvel Studios reacquired the film rights in 2012.

Rumors have swirled about possible projects ever since.

There were reports that Marvel had met with Wesley Snipes to discuss a possible Blade 4. There was also speculation that the next Blade film would focus on Eric Brooks’ daughter, Fallen Grey.

Earlier this year, another rumor claimed the character would be getting a Netflix series. Snipes later tweeted, “Balls in Marvels court…”

At this point, it’s unclear what Marvel is working on. Is it a TV series? A film reboot? Will it be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Given the success of Netflix’s Daredevil and other recent projects, bringing in Blade makes sense.

Review: ‘Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable’: Episode 27 & 28

Monkeys Fighting Robots

I’m an Alien

After stone masks which cause people to become vampires, scarves made of beetle intestines, and dogs having the power to control sand you’d think nothing would be surprising when it came to this anime. This is not true, as the series now reveals Nu Mikitakazo Nshi, a being who insists he is an alien. He has to be an alien. Afterall he isn’t able to see Josuke’s Stand yet has the ability to shapeshift his body. What other explanation could there be?

Highway Go Go, Part 1

Deciding to put the issue with Mikitaka (previously known as Nu Mikitakazo Nshi) to rest for a bit, despite not giving it any type of proper or definitive answer, the series instead focuses back on Kira. What has the murder been doing with his new identity? Trying his best to hide it by making sure he gives nothing away to who he really is. He’s shown doing all he can to work on changing his handwriting to look just like the man he took over. It goes to show just how detailed his train of thought is.

He also isn’t the most disturbed individual in the house. Looking past Kira’s new wife, who seems to be enjoying the change in personality her husband has undergone, his new son seems just as messed up. The boy apparently has the entire house wired for surveillance which really brings up a lot of questions. Why did he do this? Is this for protection or does he want to watch his parents all the time? It’s hard to tell but it seems like there won’t be any answer which will not be disturbing here.

With Josuke and Rohan now fighting against the new Stand known as Highway Go Go, it looks like they will have their hands full for a while. Hopefully it won’t result in either of them checking out early. Who can tell at this point.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable is streaming on Crunchyroll.

Whatever Happened To Summer Glau And 7 Other Underrated Actors

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Everyone has a favorite actor. Clearly, there are only a finite amount of roles to go around, and your favorite actor can’t always appear in everything you watch. Given that there are plenty of underrated actors who don’t get the roles or love they deserve. Some actors seem to just drop off the face of the earth. Whatever happened to Michael Beihn? I’ve drawn up a list of eight actors who deserve more attention, others include Richard Brooks and Jason Ritter.

One: Jimmy Bennett

Jimmy Bennett

Jimmy Bennett is one of the more skilled young actors out there, and yet you never seem to hear about him. His only starring role was No Ordinary Family, but he’s played numerous memorable bit parts, such as the young Kirk at the beginning of Star Trek. His best recent supporting role recently was mass murderer Alfie Rentman, the initial villain at the start of Murder In The First season 2.

Two: Sarah Carter

Sarah Carter

Sarah Carter, despite some bad early roles, is known for her performance as the wonderfully badass biker Maggie May on TNT’s Falling Skies. A character who was arguably one of the most compelling of the entire series. She also gave one the better dramatic performances on Falling Skies. Carter is clearly a capable action lead.

Three: Wentworth Miller

Wentworth Miller

Wentworth Miller’s career seemed to be on the rebound with his performance as Leonard Snart in the first season of The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, but since he was killed off that rebound now unclear. Prison Break is a cult hit and Miller’s acting was one of the driving forces of the show’s success. Despite expectations he was a good Chris Redfield in Resident Evil Afterlife.

Four: Jesse McCartney

Jesse Mccartney

Jesse McCartney is mostly known from his early pop star status, but he has been playing supporting TV roles lately along with voice acting for Young Justice and Kingdom Hearts. His most recent minor role was as a sadistic villain on Fear The Walking Dead.

Five: Cary Elwes

Cary Elwes

Cary Elwes, like Michael Beihn, had great success as an action star in the 80s and 90s but he has since appeared to drop off the face of the earth. The only noteworthy role he’s had since than was his well-acted foray into horror with Saw. He doesn’t even to get roles geared towards his own nostalgia value as the star of The Princess Bride and Robin Hood Men in Tights.

Six: Rupert Grint

Rupert Grint

Rupert Grint, like most of the cast of Harry Potter, seems to have disappeared. As an 11-year-old he was good enough to make main cast, he gave good performance over the 10 years of the franchise. Clearly Grint is an A-list talent, and he has the credentials and aura of an action star.

Seven: Summer Glau

Summer Glau

Summer Glau has the impressive distinction of playing more than one cult sci-fi character, and has appeared in several other popular series of the years. After Terminator SCC, the length and importance of her roles plummeted. That said her performances are compelling and fun to watch.

Eight: Nick Stahl

Nick Stahl

Terminator 3 was a lackluster movie. Nick Stahl isn’t a lackluster actor despite his lack of a career. He’s given several well-acted diverse performances in film and TV. His versions of John Connor and Yellow Bastard were on point and memorable.

I purposefully made a random list from off the top of my head to make the point that so many actors go unnoticed and under the radar.

Who else would you put on this list? Comment below.

Review: ‘Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans’ Season 2: Episode 2

Monkeys Fighting Robots

In the Midst of Jealousy

This episode begins with Mikazauki once again showing himself to be a monster on the battlefield and rightfully earning his nickname of “The Devil of Tekkadan.” Sadly he still has a long way to go when it comes to dealing with other people, especially Kudelia. Despite the fact he was the one who kissed her in the previous season, it takes another character suggestion for him to get off his butt and talk with her alone. Still, it’s always good to see him back in action.

A bit more is revealed about Hash. It turns out he has a bitter hatred for Mikazuki because what happened with a character he saw as a brother. Hash’s not brother joined up to be a soldier but his body rejected the Alaya-Vijnana interface system. It not only made it so he couldn’t pilot a mobile worker but also paralyzed him from the waist down. As always, the Gundam series makes it a point to showcase the atrocities of war and how not every horror is committed in battle.

The rest of the episode is really just set up for the what will be coming in the rest of the season. The Dawn Horizon Corps. are going to be sticking around for a while and will pose a major threat for team. The new masked character, a Gundam series staple is also revealed but his name, personality, and any hint towards whom he may actually be isn’t. It doesn’t appear to be Todo Micronen using the secret identity of Montag as he is instead preferring to sit behind a desk and micromanage the events instead. Still, he does seem like the type of control freak who would want to make sure things got done properly so there is a good chance it is indeed him. Only time will tell.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphan Season 2 is streaming on Daisuki.

Evangeline Lilly Reveals The Wasp Will Not Appear In ‘Avengers: Infinity Wars’

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Marvel’s slate of films is growing by the day, but there’s one character I’m particularly excited to meet. Ant-Man & The Wasp will finally throw a female hero into the mix. After introducing her character, Hope Pym in Ant-Man we can look forward to Lilly suiting up in the MCU, just not in Avengers: Infinity Wars.

Infinity Wars

Blastr caught up with Lilly at New York Comic Con and asked her about Hope Pym’s development in Ant-Man & The Wasp but the actresses response was a surprising one. Lilly revealed that Avengers: Infinity Wars won’t include The Wasp, but the character will appear in the fourth Avengers movie.

Watch The Interview Below

This actually makes a lot of sense. Marvel wants to introduce all of its characters in the right way, and if waiting is what they need to do, then we should all be happy with that decision.

Ant-Man & The Wasp Will Land In 2018.

Diane Lane talks Jason Mamoa as Aquaman in ‘Justice League’

Monkeys Fighting Robots

man-steel

Diane Lane appears as Martha Kent in ‘Man of Steel,’ and ‘Batman v Superman’ and is reprising her role in the new ‘Justice League’ movie.

She appeared on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ recently, and Lane divulged information on tackling many things at once, as well as Jason Momoa’s’ on-set secrets.

At the time of filming ‘Justice League’, Lane was also learning lines for Anton Chekov’s ‘The Cherry Orchard.’ She had to do double duty, flying to London for the movie, and rehearsing her scenes for the production of ‘The Cherry Orchard.’ Momoa was quite the noise maker during this pivotal time in Lane’s day.

“Jason Momoa, he’s our Aquaman,” Lane told Colbert. “I didn’t get to meet him, but I heard out of my trailer him getting ready for his scene. That’s how he was preparing. I’m inside trying to say, ‘Save the cherry orchard!’ and learn my lines for Chekhov and out the window I’m hearing this death metal while he’s getting to do whatever he does in the film, which I can’t wait to see him do.”

The key point, she never got to meet Jason.

This fun gem, coming out just as Zac Snyder dropped the fantastic reel from the last day of shooting. The whole cast seemed to have a blast while shooting.

After Supermans selfless act of death leaves Batman in the superhero number one position in ‘Justice League.’ With the help of Wonder Woman, they begin making a task force of Meta humans to help save the planet from the new threats that have emerged. Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg sign on for this action packed adventure.

‘Justice League’ directed by Zack Snyder, stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher.

‘Justice League’ opens in theaters on Nov. 17, 2017.

Guillermo Del Toro Invited to Direct ‘Arrow’

Monkeys Fighting Robots

guillermo-del-toro-hellboy

What a rad day for fans of Guillermo Del Toro and ‘Arrow!’

Del Toro has been a busy man, especially in the comic book world. The man who gave us the ‘Hellboy’ films has been working on a project called ‘Trollhunters,’ an animated series with Marc Guggenheim, of the Arrowverse. The topic of Del Toro guest directing ‘Arrow’ has been an open discussion according to Comicbook.com

“I’d be lying is I said I never broached the topic with him. He’s so busy and he is filming right now actually up in Toronto. He’s got a standing invitation.” Guggenheim goes on to say.

Del Toro would not be the first famous director to get in on the comic book show game. Kevin Smith has spent a good amount of time behind the camera over at ‘The Flash.’ Smith, an avid comic book fan himself, takes that love behind the camera to show it in the best way possible on camera. With his directing style, and love of the universe, Del Toro could really add depth and range to the CW drama.

arrow-february-2013-sweeps-poster_fullArrow follows Oliver Queen, the vigilante Green Arrow. Season four left us with the shocking death of Laurel,  Season five has begun with both Diggle and Thea taking a hike from Team Arrow, leaving Oliver to handle things on his own, like the old days.

I for one, am on board with this. Guillermo Del Toro is an amazing filmmaker, with such warped and dark ideas. His style could really add to the already dark action packed show. What do you think? Should more serious filmmakers think about directing television? Should they divulge into their passions and make even more rad things?

Stephen Amell kicks some serious ass as the Green Arrow.

‘Arrow’ airs on the CW Wednesdays at 8/7c.

‘Trollhunters’ is scheduled to begin airing in December on Netflix.

Robert De Niro Posts A Video About Donald Trump

Monkeys Fighting Robots

We here Monkeys Fighting Robots try really hard to stay out of politics, but this year it is going to be hard as the pop culture, and political worlds merge. Luckily it’s October 8th, and we only have a little less than a month left of the chaos.

A video surfaced last night of Robert De Niro giving his thoughts on Presidential Candidate Donald Trump. If there is one thing the two-time Oscar winner can do, is give a speech. According to The Washington Post, it was supposed to be a quick, neutral video shot for a bipartisan campaign encouraging Americans to do their civic duty: vote.

Watch the video and post your comments in the section below.

‘I mean, he’s so blatantly stupid. He’s a punk. He’s a dog. He’s a pig. he’s a con, a bulls—t artist, a mutt who doesn’t know what he’s talking about, doesn’t do his homework, doesn’t care, thinks he’s gaming society, doesn’t pay his taxes. He’s an idiot.

Colin Powell said it best: He’s a national disaster. He’s an embarrassment to this country. It makes me so angry that this country had gotten to the point that this fool, this bozo, has wound up where he has.

He talks [about] how he wants to punch people in the face? Well, I’d like to punch him in the face. This is somebody that we want for president? I don’t think so. What I care about is the direction of this country. And what I’m very, very worried about is that it might go in the wrong direction with someone like Donald Trump.

If you care about your future, vote for it.’ – Robert De Niro
