Awards season is about to start its big push. We still have Steven Spielberg’s historical drama, The Post, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread – which just so happens to be Daniel Day-Lewis’s last movie as well – on the horizon. But there’s been plenty to enjoy so far in 2017, a year of big movies and small movies and some tremendous movie moments in both. You may have forgotten about some of these – stuff moves pretty fast these days – so this Turkey Day, here’s 12 movie moments to be thankful for in 2017…

3The Triumphant Return of Nicole Kidman

It began early in the year, with Nicole Kidman sharing the wealth of praise heaped upon David E. Kelley and Jean-Marc Vallée’s HBO miniseries Big Little Lies. Kidman and Reese Witherspoon headlined a cast of tremendous talent at the top of their game. But that was only the beginning for the Oscar winning former queen of Hollywood.

From there, Kidman nailed the icy matriarch of the girl’s home in Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled. Then, she starred alongside Colin Farrell again in Yorgos Lanthimos’s dark thriller The Killing of A Sacred Deer. She also managed to fit in time to star in the small European indie How to Talk to Girls at Parties. She has a half dozen projects lined up, and another season of Big Little Lies coming soon as well. These are new, more daring roles for Kidman, who had spent the better part of a decade floundering in missteps and forgettable fare.

Those days are gone.
