Kevin Feige Wants Marvel to Have Their Own Comic-Con

As the Marvel movie machine churns right along into their third phase, Kevin Feige recently spoke about the benefits of comic conventions. More specifically, the Marvel puppet master wants to have his own comic-con one day.

Here’s what Feige had to say to Fandango:

“Over the years there have been discussions about that. I think what we try to do occasionally in San Diego we’re very proud of and think is a fun tradition. That being said, I think [Star Wars] Celebration is pretty amazing… I think we have enough content, and enough fans, and enough ideas that we could easily do something like that, I’m just not sure where or when.”

It makes perfect sense for Marvel to have their own comic-con, but what would that do for San Diego? There’s plenty to share between Marvel and SDCC, but it might dilute the buzz surrounding the biggest convention in the country. And what would DC, in their continuing attempts to mimic their more successful rival studio (even though they shouldn’t) plan if this were to happen? For now, it seems they should strengthen their brand before branching off on their own.

Like Feige says, there is more than enough content for Marvel to hold their own event. There’s no date or location yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see it happen sooner rather than later.
