Monkeys Fighting Robots

We’re celebrating Image Comics‘ 25th anniversary all this week by breaking down the company’s all-time best 25 series. With so much diversity in its catalog, Image truly has comics for everyone. Check them out for yourself! And leave some of your own favorites in the comments.

This celebration was originally published as a five-part series, but has been consolidated here for your convenience. Thanks to writers Tony Wendel, Nick Enquist, Wes Messer, and Manny Gomez (who thought of and organized this project).

17. Sex Criminals

Wow, this series. Sex Criminals is the truest example of “you just have to read it to understand what makes it great.” Simply put, there are certain people in the world who are able to freeze time when they orgasm. Two of these people decide to use this ability to rob banks and save their local library, like a couple of modern day Robin Hoods. The writing is about the funniest you’ll find in comics, with gut-busting artwork to match. As the series continues, creators Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky just get bolder and better.
