Sir Patrick Stewart turns 75 today and we need to celebrate it. The iconic British actor has gifted us some of the best known sci-fi characters in the history of television and film: Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek and Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movie franchise.
He was born in Yorkshire, England, in 1940 and has worked across all entertainment mediums, from theater to video games, since 1964. He’s been nominated for several Golden Globes and Emmy Awards (for Moby Dick (1998) and The Lion in Winter (2003), amongst other projects) and has won plenty of our hearts.
As for his future work, Sir Patrick Stewart has been confirmed to reprise his role as Professor X in the upcoming Wolverine sequel set for 2017, and he’ll also be starring in a tv series called Blunt Talk, were he plays Walter Blunt, a British newscaster who moves to L.A. to “impart his wisdom” onto an American audience, encountering some obstacles at the network and dealing with his personal baggage. We can look forward to that.
Also, his friendship with Sir Ian McKellen has gathered all kinds of social media attention, especially considering they have played mutant frenemies for years. It has granted us incomparable shots of them together, just being awesome.

“The three things that I am most proud of doing in my life is firstly, Extras; secondly,
my appearance on The Simpsons and thirdly, appearing on Sesame Street.”
