Greg Nicotero Knows How To Make Zombie Horror Fans Very Happy!

It seems like ‘The Walking Dead‘ and George Romero is a match made in heaven…or hell. Makeup artist, director, and producer Greg Nicotero keeps finding ways to place homages to zombie king into the show. The latest one is a personal favorite.

On the new episode of the hit AMC show, Nicotero featured an iconic zombie from ‘Day of The Dead‘. His name is Dr. Tongue and he has a bit of a cult following!

The appearance of Dr. Tongue was teased months ago on Nicotero’s Instagram so I’m glad to finally see him make an appearance! He’s the first zombie to appear on-screen in ‘Day of the Dead‘ and became a mascot for the underrated George Romero film.

Greg Nicotero got his start working with Romero and makeup icon Tom Savini on ‘Day of The Dead‘ so it’s awesome to his work come full circle. This isn’t the first time Nicotero has references the film as he also featured a zombie known as “Bub” before.

What other famous zombies do you think we can see on the show?

Let me know in the comments below if you caught this throwback Romero homage!

The Walking Dead’ airs Sunday nights at 9pm on AMC.
