Showtime turning Bill Clinton’s Book into a Series! Also, Bill Clinton is writing a book!

Monkeys Fighting Robots

George W. Bush has his painting. Jimmy Carter builds houses. Bill Clinton…is writing a thriller? Yep. With the help of James Patterson, Clinton is writing his first novel, The President is Missing. The plot is that the president is missing.

Spoiler Alert: It was Socks the whole time!

The novel isn’t even finished, and there’s no reason to think it will even be any good, but Showtime is already making it into a series. As CEO David Nevins said:

“Bringing The President Is Missing to Showtime is a coup of the highest order…The pairing of President Clinton with fiction’s most gripping storyteller promises a kinetic experience, one that the book world has salivated over for months and that now will dovetail perfectly into a politically relevant, character-based action series for our network.”

Patterson is happy for the opportunity, saying that “The White House is such an exciting world to explore and is made even more so with the unique insights of a former President”

Clinton is enjoying working in the world of fiction—well, literary fiction that is. “I’m really enjoying writing this book and working with Jim…and I can’t wait to see Showtime bring the characters to life.”

Hopefully, Clinton will bring a new depth to the political thriller, having actual presidential experience. Political ideologies aside, the idea of a former president writing a mystery novel about a president is pretty cool.

Watch: Netflix’s ‘1922’ Thomas Jane Goes To A Dark Place

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Netflix Friday morning released the first trailer to ‘1922’ based on a novella by Stephen King and stars Thomas Jane.

2017 has become the year of Stephen King with four films and multiple shows. ‘1922’ looks to get under your skin and gnaw at your flesh.

Watch the trailer below:

About the film:
1922 is based on Stephen King’s 131-page storytelling of a man’s confession of his wife’s murder. The tale is told from the perspective of Wilfred James, the story’s unreliable narrator who admits to killing his wife, Arlette, with his son in Nebraska. But after he buries her body, he finds himself terrorized by rats and, as his life begins to unravel, becomes convinced his wife is haunting him.

The film is written and directed by Zak Hilditch. ‘1922’ stars Thomas Jane, Molly Parker, Dylan Schmid, Neal McDonough, Brian d’Arcy James and Kaitlyn Bernard.

‘1922’ hits Netflix on October 20.

‘Neo Yokio’ Doesn’t Deserve A Big Toblerone

Monkeys Fighting Robots

After watching Hand Shakers earlier in the year, a series would have to do a lot wrong to be the worst anime in 2017. Luckily, a new challenger has emerged. Its name is Neo Yokio and you should do everything in your power to ensure no one watches it.

Writing

The story focuses around Kaz, a Magistocrat, a magician who also is an aristocrat. His job is to slay demons in a city which was the gate for a large group of demons to appear back in the day. Sounds like the standard setup which could go either way but luckily this show decides to take it in a total nosedive.

Kaz is bored with his life and it shows. He seems to both care about and give little thought to the Bachelor Board (a board which shows the most eligible bachelors in the two) in times square which regularly has him high up. Kaz asks “Who am I without the bachelor board?” He previously didn’t care about where he was on it. This is the level of vapid and shallow character who we have to follow through all six episodes.

Kaz is rich, spoiled, but still finds a way to suck the joy of more than half of his sentences when he means to. The character visits his own grave, not because he is dead but because he actually already has his grave picked out and is depressed over his ex-girlfriend. At the same moment a young girl is possessed, floating in her room, and it’s his job to handle it. This is our hero folks. He’s more worried about his own interests than about saving people from demons. Sadly, he is the center of the entire story and offers little entertainment to the viewer.

The idea of being humiliated at a party is the greatest drama a person faces in this series. This is beyond melodrama. Nothing has any stakes and frankly the characters do little to make the audience care about them. Everyone is just trying to act fashionable and be popular.

Neo Yokio

Acting

This show features voice talent by Susan Sarandon, Steve Buscemi, and Jude Law. Yet it still finds a way to be hard to listen to. Most of the cast is forced to spout some of the worst worst lines of dialogues ever written for a dub script. Lines such as “Her blog is our bible.” or “Her voice is like cashmere.” It feels like the script was meant for a dub for the 90s, but when the crew was told they were going to be put on the late night block they decided to occasional drop the F word.

As the series continues, you find yourself begging for the show to stop using the term “Herb” as an insult and name dropping expensive high end brand names like Chanel and Louis Vuitton. Clips of this show’s dub will and should be featured on future YouTube videos of cringeworthy moments. It needs to be experiences to be believed but this should highly be avoided.

Neo Yokio

Art

The artwork for the series is colorful yet bland all at the same time. Charles the mecha butler looks like a robotic design from the 80s and his all white esthetic just seems to highlight how underwhelming he is. Every character looks like they came from the late 90s or early 2000s when overwhelming color palettes were in high demand. This series started development in the last two years, it shouldn’t have production value this poor.

The series tries to redeem itself by presenting a few anime references here and there. There is a blatant Ranma ½ joke but it seems more forced than anything. Especially later as the character who turns into a woman use the change to hit on a lesbian. The joke seemed dead and wrong at this point.

Music

The opening and most background music is classical music and blues. It’s almost as if the soundtrack is trying to distinguish itself as being higher caliber. Until the pop or dance music comes in to remind us all of how it’s supposed to be modern. It feels more like elevator music then it feels inspirational which is probably what was originally intended. The soundtrack should definitely not be added to anyone playlist, ever.

Neo Yokio

Conclusion

Don’t check it out. Don’t give this series the satisfaction of your views. It’s the only way you will stop this kind of production from being made. This whole series is trying too hard to be classy, yet modern, and trendy. It this series gets a second season, the news will feature one line describing this bit of information, followed by a list of anime which never got a second season or are in need of a remake. All of those series are much more worthy of having additional content made for them. If you can’t tell, Neo Yokio is NOT a good series.

‘The Punisher’ Release Date Leaks, Coming Sooner Than Expected?

Monkeys Fighting Robots

In light of all the marketing for The Punisher recently, it seems as though the show’s release date has leaked online.

The latest issue of the magazine Total Film has the show hitting Netflix on October 13 – check the image below.

As someone who has worked on magazines before, I can speak first hand that a typo like this can happen easily; while there is a chance that Total Film just spoiled the release date, it could definitely be a mistake.

The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal as the title role and also features Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as David Lieberman, Michael Nathanson as Sam Stein, Jaime Ray Newman as Sarah Lieberman, and Deborah Ann-Woll as Karen Page.

“Frank Castle is haunted and hunted after the murder of his family and becomes a vigilante known in the criminal underworld as “the Punisher”, who aims to fight crime by any means necessary.”

As of now, The Punisher still has no official release date.

‘Captain Marvel’ Star Brie Larson Wants To Direct A Superhero Movie

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Huffington Post recently put out an article all about Brie Larson and her new film, Unicorn Store; it’s Larson’s directorial debut, and represents a new chapter in her career.

After talking about the movie for a bit, the outlet proceeded to ask the actress/director if she’d be interested in helming a comic book movie in the future. Her response?

“Oh yeah, that’s my plan. Why not? My new life philosophy is I’m not going to tell myself no. I’m just going to do stuff until someone else tells me no.”

Given that she is the star of 2019’s Captain Marvel, Larson definitely has connections at Marvel and likely Warner Bros. (DC) too.

Can you see Larson putting her efforts behind a comic book movie? If so, what character should she tackle? Start a conversation in the comments below.

‘All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Heads Into ‘Legacy’ At The Cosmic Forefront

Monkeys Fighting Robots

One of the most crucial elements to Marvel Comics’ success is their cosmic front. All the best eras in Marvel had a healthy dose of space drama present. There has been a boom recently in cosmic titles and stories, with All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy at the forefront.

All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy 10 cvr

***SPOILERS LIE AHEAD***

Our favorite team of space scoundrels are attempting to pull a fast one on a cosmic elder, The Grandmaster. It quickly falls apart and the egg artifact they were delivering was a Trojan horse carrying this elder’s brother, The Collector. The two elders reveal to our heroes the plot unfolding concerning infinity stones, Groot’s species, Thanos, and the murder of another elder.

This run of All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy has been stupendous. Not only does it play a huge role in resurrecting the cosmic side of Marvel, but it’s also the best GOTG series since Abnett/Lanning. Writer Gerry Duggan is the first to find the voice for these characters that satisfies both new readers coming from the movie success and longtime fans of the comics.

All-New GOTG 10 snake god

It’s great to see some corner of the 616 universe addressing the fallout of Secret Wars having reshaped everything in existence. This is the perfect to handle it, as the gravity of the situation is fully understood and met with a truck load of sarcastic commentary.

One of the major strengths of this series has been it’s willingness to dive deep into the weird. A lot of that is due to the art, Aaron Kuder has been delivering top-notch art every issue. There’s a whole world of charm achieved through layouts and texture alone, not to mention the brilliant design of every alien creature and structure.

all-new gotg 10 gods

All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy quite frequently has the acid trip appeal of a Grant Morrison book. The beautiful balance of odd and awe makes this a supremely unique reading experience. It never takes itself too seriously but doesn’t shy away from high concept science-fiction. The blueprint for modern Marvel cosmic can be found right here.

Infinity stones, cosmic elders, universe reconfiguration, space pollen, and a ton of story threads continuing in the background, what more could you want? All-New Guardians Of The Galaxy is a must-read series and one of the most exciting as we head into Marvel Legacy.

“Riverdale” Star Involved In Car Crash

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Riverdale star KJ Apa was involved in a car accident last week after working a 16 hr shift.  Apa fell asleep at the wheel striking a light pole while on his 45 minute drive home.

The accident has sparked outrage from fans.  Many feel that when working late nights on a show transportation should be provided.

The Hollywood Reporter says, SAG-AFTRA announced Thursday afternoon that the union would investigate the set in Vancouver following the dangerous crash. “This is an extremely troubling situation and we are deeply concerned about the safety of performers on the Riverdale set,” the statement read. “We are sending a team to Vancouver to review the circumstances surrounding safety issues affecting performers on this production.”

Warner Bros. gave the following statement to UsWeekly, “The safety of the cast and crew on all of our productions is of paramount importance to the Studio. Productions adhere to the Screen Actors Guild–mandated turnaround time of 12 hours from wrap time to next day call time for cast members. In accordance with industry standard policy, if any cast or crew member feels tired or unsafe at any time after working, the Studio will provide a taxi, a driver or a hotel room upon request. This is communicated to all cast and crew, both in writing and verbally, at the beginning of production and is reiterated continuously throughout the duration of production.”

Apa wasn’t seriously injured, but the damage to his car is irreparable.

“First and foremost, we are extremely grateful that KJ Apa was uninjured during his recent accident” said Warner Bros. “Secondarily, we want to specifically address the characterization that conditions on the set of Riverdale are of concern. We have a large cast of series regulars, and our actors do not work every day. On the day of the accident, KJ worked 14.2 hours. The previous day he worked 2.5 hours, and the day before that he worked 7.7 hours. KJ has repeatedly been informed about making production aware if he is tired or feels unsafe, and if so, either a ride or hotel room will be provided for him. The accident occurred last Thursday. Additionally, it is untrue that KJ was taken to the hospital. He was treated by first responders on the scene and released by them. We also sent a doctor to his home later that same day for a follow-up to confirm his well-being.”

The second season of Riverdale premieres October 11th on CW
