YouTube’s 10th Anniversary: Top 10 All-Time Videos

Monkeys Fighting Robots

The video-sharing website that we know as YouTube is celebrating its 10th anniversary this February. Three former PayPal employees created the service in 2005 and then sold it to Google in November of 2006 for $1.65 billion. With such an important anniversary, we should probably look back and reflect on the top 10 most viewed YouTube videos of all-time.

The one big disappointment of this list is that there is only one viral video on the list. The old-timers complain that MTV doesn’t play music videos anymore but apparently all you need to do is go to YouTube.

10. PSY – GENTLEMAN M/V – 797,135,527 views

9. Katy Perry – Roar (Official) – 802,150,137 views

8. Shakira – Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) (The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup™ Song) – 807,186,265 views

7. Jennifer Lopez – On The Floor ft. Pitbull – 809,313,085 views

6. Eminem – Love The Way You Lie ft. Rihanna – 811,737,254 views

The Walking Dead’s Josh McDermitt on the loss of his friend

Monkeys Fighting Robots

The Power Hour crew of Matthew Sardo and Amanda Borges spoke to Josh McDermitt, who plays Eugene on The Walking Dead.

How do the cast members take it when they find out a member of the cast is getting killed off?

“You know it’s really tough, it becomes kind of a cliche thing to say or maybe for people to hear is we’re a giant family. I’ve been on other tv shows where you don’t really…enjoy going to work, you enjoy the crew and maybe a few cast members but maybe there’s a few stinkers in the bunch and you’re kind of just like ‘Ah whatever.’ But with this show, everyone is such a tight knit group we have several text message chains going, and if someone gets killed off, then we’ll kind of just remove them from that chain so that they don’t keep getting bombarded with text messages. We’re constantly texting each other all the time and emailing and getting together to watch the show and dong that sort of thing and it’s really sad when you lose a family member. It has nothing to do with ‘Oh they may not work again’ or anything like that it’s just we don’t get to hang out with our friends. They don’t get to come to work and play with us anymore. It’s really tough I mean I’ll be honest, I didn’t know Emily Kinney (Beth) very well. But I’ve gotten to know her just in hanging out and that sort of thing and that hit me just as hard…can I say it? It’s a spoiler. It hit me just as hard as when we lost Chad Coleman last night, who I’m close with. So it doesn’t matter who it is, it hits us all really hard.”

What scene have you done on The Walking Dead that you’re most proud of?

“Oh wow. What I’m most proud of, I think probably the admission of Eugene’s lie. With that it wasn’t so much about for me, it wasn’t so much about me being able to spill the secret and being the focal point and the focus of the attention, but the fact that everyone in that scene was working together to pull off a really good scene and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the other actors there. (We broke up how we shot the scene.) We shot the scene where Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) was strong arming Eugene down the road and he pushes Rosita (Christian Serratos) out of the way and punches are being thrown and that sort of thing. And then we went to lunch and we came back and shot the part about Euguene admitting the truth and instantly without even questioning and saying ‘hey do you want to do this,’ we just actually picked it up from when we were throwing punches and running down the road again instead of coming from a zero starting point in a sense. And it just got us back into it instantly. We were just working on the same page as a collective group and I think that’s probably the scene I’m most proud of to date that we’ve worked on because it was pretty amazing.”

Facebook Finally Fixes The “If You Die” Issue

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Facebook announced Thursday that they added a Legacy Contact feature to you account. You can now make your wife, best friend or someone you want to play a really horrible joke on, the care taker of your account. Let the dead selfies begin.

Here is what Facebook said:
Facebook is a place to share and connect with friends and family. For many of us, it’s also a place to remember and honor those we’ve lost. When a person passes away, their account can become a memorial of their life, friendships and experiences.

Today we’re introducing a new feature that lets people choose a legacy contact—a family member or friend who can manage their account when they pass away. Once someone lets us know that a person has passed away, we will memorialize the account and the legacy contact will be able to:

Write a post to display at the top of the memorialized Timeline (for example, to announce a memorial service or share a special message)
Respond to new friend requests from family members and friends who were not yet connected on Facebook
Update the profile picture and cover photo
If someone chooses, they may give their legacy contact permission to download an archive of the photos, posts and profile information they shared on Facebook. Other settings will remain the same as before the account was memorialized. The legacy contact will not be able to log in as the person who passed away or see that person’s private messages.

Alternatively, people can let us know if they’d prefer to have their Facebook account permanently deleted after death.

Until now, when someone passed away, we offered a basic memorialized account which was viewable, but could not be managed by anyone. By talking to people who have experienced loss, we realized there is more we can do to support those who are grieving and those who want a say in what happens to their account after death.

DC Comics To Diversify Lineup In June

Monkeys Fighting Robots

This summer, DC Entertainment launches a bold new direction for the DC Universe (DCU) that is even more inclusive and accessible to a wider group of readers as the publisher continues to evolve comic storytelling for its next generation of fans. Award-winning, critically acclaimed writers are headlining the June 2015 slate of DC Comics’ new periodicals and graphic novels, including Gene Luen Yang, Bryan Hitch, Garth Ennis and Ming Doyle.

Beginning June 3rd, the DC Comics line of comic books will consist of 24 brand-new series that will begin at issue number one, as well as 25 on-going, bestselling fan favorite series that will continue without a break in the issue numbering. The total number of periodicals in the DCU will be 49, with additional new titles debuting throughout the year.

“This heralds in a new era for the DC Universe which will allow us to publish something for everyone, be more expansive and modern in our approach and tell stories that better reflect the society around us,” said DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio. “Whether you’ve been a DC fan your whole life, or whether you are new to comics – there will be a book for you beginning in June.”

DC Comics will be keenly focused on going back-to-basics with its legendary characters, like BATMAN, SUPERMAN and WONDER WOMAN, while also reinventing key characters, such as BLACK CANARY, BIZARRO, CYBORG and STARFIRE, with a new contemporary tonality to ensure a diverse offering of titles. Top writers and artists, as well as emerging fresh voices, are on board to help create an expansive lineup of comics that appeals to a broad audience of fans.

Depicting some of these iconic characters in a more contemporary light include National Book Award finalist Gene Luen Yang who will join artist John Romita Jr. in the ongoing adventures of SUPERMAN. Comic superstar artist Bryan Hitch will write and draw new tales of the world’s greatest heroes in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA. The pitch perfect team of Garth Ennis and John McCrea returns to DC Comics for a limited series called SECTION EIGHT featuring characters from their popular Hitman comic. VERTIGO creator Ming Doyle will be lending her talents to DC Comics, penning CONSTANTINE: THE HELLBLAZER along with newcomer artist Riley Rossmo.

“More than ever before, DC Comics fans are being exposed to our rich portfolio of characters through multiple sources, including an unprecedented number of highly successful TV shows, video games and upcoming major motion pictures,” said Co-Publisher Jim Lee. “We are looking to extend that experience within publishing to ensure there is a comic book for everyone. For example, fans of the ARROW television show may want more stories about BLACK CANARY. Now they can find modern, fresh takes on the character in the pages of her standalone series both in stores and digitally.”

Breakout star, Brenden Fletcher, co-writer behind the all new, highly successful BATGIRL book will also be writing the new BLACK CANARY series launching in June. Fan favorites Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti will be the creative team on new titles STARFIRE and HARLEY QUINN/POWER GIRL and will continue to helm the perennially bestselling HARLEY QUINN.

“Beyond character and creators, the June slate will showcase different styles and approaches to storytelling as we add offbeat, irreverently funny titles such as BIZARRO, BAT-MITE and PREZ,” said Lee. “Truly there will be something for everybody as we simultaneously celebrate our rich legacy while embracing new voices and concepts.”

A first look at upcoming storylines will be the focus of DC Entertainment’s Free Comic Book Day issue – DC COMICS: DIVERGENCE – available Saturday, May 2, featuring three 8-page previews for the June releases of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s BATMAN, as well as Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok’s launch of the Darkseid War within JUSTICE LEAGUE featuring the biggest villains in the DCU – Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor, and Gene Luen Yang’s DC Comics debut with celebrated artist John Romita, Jr on SUPERMAN. More than half-a million free issues of the DC Entertainment sampler will be given away at comic book retailers globally.

“In this new era of storytelling, story will trump continuity as we continue to empower creators to tell the best stories in the industry,” said DiDio.

Victory Brewing Company To Distribute Helles Lager To 35 states

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Victory Brewery

DOWNINGTOWN, PA, January 20, 2015 – In response to growing consumer demand and appreciation for a crisp-tasting lager style beer, Victory Brewing Company (Victory) is excited to share their best kept secret with full distribution of Victory Helles Lager to 35 states. Long held as an extremely popular favorite in the Philadelphia region because of the area’s longtime love affair with lagers, Victory Helles Lager is made in traditional German style creating a full-bodied golden brew with unsurpassed balanced flavors.

Originally known as Brandywine Valley Lager when it made its debut in 1996, this lager paid homage to Victory’s pristine water source, one of the four crucial ingredients in beer. The brand transformed into Victory Lager and is now rebranded as Victory Helles Lager marrying the preservation of the traditional German style and the critical water source. Historically, helles lagers have relied on high-quality, pure ingredients to excite the senses. This flavorful brew does just that with its straw-blond coloring and lingering notes of Victory’s trademark whole flower hops that results in a delicious beer that is something of a refreshing throwback to when American brewing was largely inspired by Germany. Victory Helles Lager has an ABV of 4.8% and is available year-round in bottles and on draft.

Victory Helles Lager is available at craft beer bars, bottle shops, beer distributors and major gourmet grocery stores throughout Victory’s 35 state distribution footprint. Its suggested retail price for a six-pack is $9.99, however varies slightly upon location. Use Victory’s Beerfinder to discover a nearby location, or download the free Victory Mobile app for Android or iPhone.

“Having trained in Germany, Ron and I are devoted to the balanced flavors of Helles Lager as it emphasizes our quality, imported ingredients.” Traditionally, the Philadelphia region has been home to some of the best lagers in the country and as this brand rose in popularity locally, we decided it was time to share our passion for Victory Helles Lager with all our fans and expand into full distribution,” said Victory’s President and Brewmaster, Bill Covaleski.
