Robert Kirkman Knows Exactly How ‘The Walking Dead’ Will End

Monkeys Fighting Robots

There is an ending to Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, as he’s “always taking baby steps toward that point” in the comic, but it appears the creator is keeping AMC and showrunner Scott Gimple in the dark, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Kirkman explained the situation to EW.

“There’s no communication whatsoever. They have no approval over what happens in the comic. Scott Gimple is an avid reader of the comic, and prefers to experience the comic book as a reader, so he gets the advance issues as they’re published, but he doesn’t read scripts. He gets mad at me if I give him any kind of indication as to what’s coming, because he doesn’t like spoilers,” said Kirkman.

“So, they’re kind of a hundred percent in the dark, which I guess is pretty remarkable, and I would probably say it’s a testament to the trust that AMC has in me. I mean, I guess to a certain extent, at this point, the comic book is kind of a workshop of future seasons of the show, and it’s fun to think that I can just completely torpedo the story if I wanted to,” said Kirkman.

The comic book is in the middle of ‘The Whisper War’ and is about 62 issues ahead of the AMC series that recently introduced Negan, with ‘All Out War’ on the horizon. There is enough material available for Rick and his crew to reach ten seasons and beyond on AMC.

Do you think Kirkman will end The Walking Dead with issue 200?

New ‘Rogue One’ Trailer Features Plenty More Darth Vader

Monkeys Fighting Robots

A new international trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story  has been unveiled. And it heavily features everyone’s favorite Sith Lord, Darth Vader himself. At first, it seemed Lucasfilm was slow to dole out how much Vader we could expect in the movie, but it seems now like the classic villain will have a fairly substantial role. You can check out the trailer below.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Alan Tudyk, Donny Yen, Valene Kane, Riz Ahmed, Genevieve O’Reilly, Jimmy Smits, James Earl Jones,  and Forrest Whitaker.  It tells the story of the rag-tag team who steal the famed plans for the first Death Star, an act that allows for its destruction by the rebels in Star Wars: A New Hope. It is directed by Gareth Edwards, from a screenplay written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will hit theaters on December 16, 2016.

‘Kong: Skull Island’ Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts Shows Off Kong, Talks Movie’s Plan

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Kong: Skull Island is getting close to us, so director Jordan Vogt-Roberts sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about the direction this prequel will take.

The site also gave us our first look at Kong and, spoiler alert, he’s a gigantic gorilla:

Kong: Skull Island

He looks great, but about as expected. What’s more interesting about the EW article is what Vogt-Roberts had to say about Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla, about monster movies in general, and how he is ready to throw all sorts of action in our face:

We’re also fundamentally not playing the same game that Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla did and most monster movies do, which I’m sort of sick of the notion that a monster movie needs to wait an hour or 40 minutes until the creature shows up. Kong traditionally does not show up in these movies until very, very late, and the monster traditionally does not show up until very, very late in a monster movie, so a lot of these movies tend to have this structure that’s a bit of a slow burn. Something about this movie made me want to reject that and play a very, very different game.

This, on top of the cast that includes Brie Larson, John Goodman, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, John C. Reilly, and Corey Hawkins, and I am all the way in on this one.

Kong: Skull Island opens March 10 next year.

Psychics Chase Psychics in ‘Solace,’ a New Cop/Killer Thriller

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Solace was, apparently, going to be a sequel to David Fincher’s Se7en at one point. At least an offshoot type sequel. But that doesn’t matter much now, because Solace is its own movie, and it features Anthony Hopkins as a psychic chasing down Colin Farrell, a psychic who just so happens to be a serial killer.

Morgan Freeman was going to be the Hopkins character back when this was a Se7en sequel, but the whole connection between these things gives me a headache so let’s move on. Check out this trailer:

When FBI Special Agent Joe Merriwether (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is unable to solve a series of homicides, he decides to enlist the help of his former colleague Dr. John Clancy (Anthony Hopkins), a retired physician with psychic powers. The reclusive Clancy, who shuttered his practice and retreated from the world following the death of his daughter and subsequent break-up of his marriage, wants nothing to do with the case. He soon changes his mind after seeing disturbingly violent visions of Joe’s partner, FBI Special Agent Katherine Cowles’s (Abbie Cornish) ultimate demise. When Clancy’s exceptional intuitive powers put him on the trail of a suspect, Charles Ambrose (Colin Farrell), the doctor soon realizes his abilities are no match against the extraordinary powers of this vicious murderer on a mission.

So, yeah, I like Anthony Hopkins. I like Colin Farrell. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is… also an actor who appears in things. But this looks incredibly generic. And it was on the shelf for several years so that should clue you in as to its quality too.

Solace will be available On Demand December 16th in correlation with its theatrical release, so if you’re awkwardly trying to find something to do with your dad around the holidays, here ya go. He will love it.

Childish Gambino Releases First Single Off New Album

Childish Gambino Just Dropped The First Song Off ‘Awaken, My Love! ‘

The rapper, actor, and comedian Childish Gambino premiered his newest song “Me and Your Mama” on Beats 1. The host of Beats 1 played the song six times in a row, more than any other song on the show.

“I just needed this right now Donald. Needed this record. It sounds like now. It sounds like this year. So deep,” is what host Zane Lowe told listeners. The rapper, who also is known by real name Donald Glover, recently surprised fans when a new album popped up on Amazon out of no where.

Now with the first song coming from ‘Awaken, My Love!‘, the hype just got so real.

What do you think of the new song “Me and Your Mama”? I think this is a definitive statement and a great indicating of what the album will sound like.

I personally can’t wait for ‘Awaken, My Love!‘.

‘Valerian’ Trailer: Luc Besson’s New Sci-Fi Adventure Looks Wild

Monkeys Fighting Robots

Luc Besson’s Valerian has its first trailer, and this looks like a pretty eye-popping sci-fi spectacle. I just hope the story can hang on to all these great visuals.

Check it:

Rooted in the classic graphic novel series, Valerian and Laureline- visionary writer/director Luc Besson advances this iconic source material into a contemporary, unique and epic science fiction saga.

Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner- blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him.

Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time- uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.

That’s about as much to take in as the effects all over the trailer. This has the look of The Fifth Element at 11, which could be awesome or it could be overwhelming. We’ll see when Valerian opens July 21st next year.

Horror Movie Review: ‘The Wailing’ Is A Mysterious Korean Masterpiece

Monkeys Fighting Robots

‘The Wailing’ Delivers A Convoluted But Beautiful Murder Mystery.

Some of the most intelligent horror films have came from Korean cinema. From ‘Oldboy‘ to ‘I Saw The Devil‘, the list of amazing Korean horror goes on. I’ve been waiting for the next great movie and 2016’s ‘The Wailing‘ might be it.

Describing this film as weird is a disservice. Trying to retell the events of the film is not easy but the feelings toward it is unshakeable. ‘The Wailing‘ is about the arrival of a mysterious stranger who brings drastic change to a small village. There’s illness and murders popping up causing a mass panic. The investigating officer is then personally involved in this case when his daughter gets sick. Without giving much away, that is just the tip of the iceberg.

This movie is so refreshing. Dealing with clumsy American movies, the focused narrative in ‘The Wailing‘ is a welcomed change. Everything attempted in this movie succeeded. Any humorous moment landed and the scares were plentiful. But, it was the obscurity of the whole thing that stands out. Wrapping your head around this piece is challenging but that’s half the fun. You never fully understand but you also enjoy that because ‘The Wailing‘ remains so masterfully crafted even at its strangest.

Something that drew me in is how deeply rooted it is in ancient Asian mythology. Horror films in America usually follow the same mythology or stories just retold in different ways. Diving into different elements from this South Korean horror film allows me to be even more intrigued. But that doesn’t mean ‘The Wailing‘ skips out on any horror tropes; it just subverts them beyond your wildest expectations.

“Not everything that moves, breathes, and talks is alive.”
Il-Gwang (Jung-min Hwang)

This did exactly what a great film has to do it. It answered enough questions posed within the film but stills lets your mind wander after it’s over. Never during the long running time did I find get bored. The mystery is so bizarre and the film is so sharp that it draws you until credits roll. You’re satisfied but you want more. That’s how I knew ‘The Wailing‘ was near perfection.

Other than a few stand out acting performances, the praise falls to the great work behind the camera. Director Na Hong-jin and cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo brought everything they could. Na Hong-jin has been doing great since his debut in 2008 with the year’s third biggest film and impressed Cannes this year with ‘The Wailing‘. The work with the camera and visuals that Hong-Kyung-pyo never had a wasted moment. He made everything count and it shows as the whole movie is beautiful even when it gets disgusting or disturbed.

Final Thoughts:

I’ve seen a lot of horror films from American cinemas this year but none of them come close to what ‘The Wailing‘ did. The perfect blend of surrealism, mystery, and horror is great but when it gets too bizarre like exorcisms AND zombies is when you fall in love. I recommend this to any genre fans.

The streak of amazing South Korean horror movies continues.

Wailing

The Wailing‘ is available on streaming services like iTunes, Youtube, and Google Play. It stars Kwak Do-wonHwang Jung-min, and Jun Kunimura.

‘Daredevil’ Actor Charlie Cox Wants Bullseye On Show

Monkeys Fighting Robots

The first two seasons of Daredevil on Netflix are packed with characters, storylines, and events from the DD comic lore; what’s missing, however, is the introduction of Bullseye. Daredevil actor Charlie Cox noticed the absense and talked about it in an interview via Screenrant.com.

“It’s no secret, I’ve said it before and I get in trouble every time I say it, I’d like to see Bullseye make an appearance at some point. I think it’s a really interesting opportunity. Deborah Ann Woll obviously does not want Bullseye to show up for obvious reasons. Elodie Yung, who plays Elektra, doesn’t want Bullseye to show up either.”

The character is an integral part of Matt Murdock’s story and I surely hope he pops up in season three, and possibly even The Defenders.

See Cox as Daredevil next in 2017’s The Defenders.

Review: ‘Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps’ #8: Corps Stand Together

Monkeys Fighting Robots

BOTTLED LIGHT” part one! The Green Lantern Corps may be back up and running, but how will they protect the universe with the Sinestro Corps as partners? Plus, what happened to Hal Jordan—and who can bring him back from beyond?

Writing

With the first arc of this series wrapped up, there is a lot of new material to address. Hal is missing, the Green Lantern Corps is united, and there are a few Sinestro Corps members who never really believed what Sinestro was serving up. It’s a lot to take in all at once but happens in a which flows nicely and doesn’t feel rushed.

Writer Robert Vendetti is on fire with this issue. On top of the impressive new storyline he has unfolding he also works to bring back some classic characters, have some great moments, and even bring back some individuals which have been lost for a while. For those thinking he wasn’t ready with a good follow up to the first storyline, you’ll find he knows exactly what he is doing.

hjglc_cv8_ds

Artwork

The sprawling visuals in this issue are very impressive. Ethan Van Sciver’s artwork mixed with Jason Wright’s colors is truly sight to behold. The best part of the issue comes from a particular two page spread which cannot be talked about in detail because doing so would diminish the overwhelming excellence which comes from seeing it first hand. It’s the kind of image you wish you could get a print of and be able to hang it on the wall.

Conclusion

This is just what the doctor ordered. A great issue about two factions coming together to stop a powerful force they wouldn’t be able to take down alone. A great analogy for two sides which may not see eye to eye but can become united under the idea of moving forward and working together for a better tomorrow. A lot of people could learn a lesson from the message in this issue and it may help to give everyone the ray of hope which is desperately needed right now.
