Geekflix – Top ‘Netflix’ Picks For June 2017

With Memorial Day just around the corner, it’s the sign May is coming to an end. This means it’s time for another installment of Geekflix on Netflix, where 10 titles are labeled required viewing for anyone who wants to keep their geek credentials strong.

Arrow: Season 5 (June 1st)

Oliver Queen had an intense first term as Mayor of Star City in the fifth season of Arrow. In case you missed it, you can take the time to catch up on it. Also, make sure you check out the 100th episode which really is a love letter to the fans.

Full Metal Jacket (June 1st)


One of the definitive war movies ever made. If you haven’t taken the time to enjoy Stanley Kubrich’s enthralling look at the Vietnam War, you owe it to yourself to check it out. At the very least it will help you know which is your rifle and which is your gun and which is fighting and which is for fun.

Young Frankenstein (June 1st)

One of director Mel Brook’s best films. A movie which finds a way to both mock and pay tribute to the material it is parodying. A shame many directors aren’t able to understand how to repeat such a process these days. As an added bonus, you can use it to help honor the memory of the recently departed Gene Wilder.

Catwoman (June 1st)

Is it the worst comic book movie ever made? It’s up there. If you ever needed a reminder of why the more recent comic book movies have been so well received all you have to do is take the time to watch a bad movie based on a comic and everything will become very clear.

Zodiac (June 1st)

Zodiac
In the mood for watching one of the actors in your superhero films in something none comic book related? Then check out this film which features Robert Downey Jr. as a reporter in the middle of the one of the most infamous serial killers in American history. It’s a pretty chilling experience and may even help educate you on the case.

Trolls (June 7th)

Trolls
Looking for a cute little film to watch with a member of your family? Why not check out this adorable little story features Justin Timberlake as a grumpy troll who doesn’t want to get along with others. Also, it has a pretty addictive soundtrack you to it as well.

Orange Is The New Black: Season 5 (June 9th)

Orange is the new black
The Netflix critically acclaimed series is back for a new season. Watch as the inmates of Litchfield prison deal with everything which comes their way while at the same time flashing back to key moments in their lives to show how it has shaped them. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll want to stay away from Wikipedia because the entire fifth season’s descriptions are already there and they seem to have spoilers.

Agents Of SHIELD: Season 4 (June 15th)

Agents of Shield on top of things if you want to take part in the Inhumans TV series when it comes out. Or is everyone not looking forward to it?

Moana(June 20th)

Come on. You know you’re going to watch it. If you haven’t taken the time to see it just to know Dwayne Johnson does have a pretty good singing voice, give it a chance. And if you do enjoy it thanks to this recommendation…”What can I say except, you’re welcome!”

Little Witch Academia(June 30th)

Searching for a new anime series which you can enjoy? Look no further than Little Witch Academia, a show which is a little bit of Harry Potter, mixed with the randomness which comes from an anime series. It already has a huge following thanks to the two short films which preceded it. Give it a watch and check it out for yourself.
