6Wolverine: The End
In the original Old Man Logan story-line, Origin writer, Paul Jenkins, returns to tell one possible fate for everyone’s favourite killer in yellow-spandex. Stop us, if this sounds familiar, but with his healing factor not what it used to be and faced with his impending mortality, Wolverine is forced to reflex on his own legacy and come to terms with his past. In doing so, Jenkins revisits the plot-threads from his earlier work and reveals new elements of the characters tortured history. Logan makes one final attempt to re-discover the life he once lost so that he can die with a modicum of peace. In doing so, he confronts enemies and friends from his hundred year life as they all attempt to reconcile what they can. The spectre of the Xavier and X-Men looms large in both a metaphorical and literal sense throughout this piece. Logan is pushed to the brink, before finally understanding who he truly is. Its a gripping tale, one that forces the reader to question what they knew about Logan’s origins. Wolverine: The End cement’s Logan’s story as an almost Shakespearean tragedy. If this were to be how it were all to end, there can be no doubt that Wolverine would have had a fitting send-off.
