Sony’s ‘Venom’ Solo-Film Just Got A Star & Director!
‘Venom‘, the solo film for one of Spider-Man’s iconic villains, is beginning to pick up some steam. Sony has said to move this project to the top of their priorities list! The first thing they did was lock down an amazing actor and director for the film.
As reported by HollywoodReporter.com, Tom Hardy is set to star as the titular Venom. Ruben Fleischer will be the director of the project. Fleischer is known for directing ‘Zombieland‘ so the needed mix of humor & horror is there.
Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner wrote a script for ‘Venom‘. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing along with Amy Pascal.
There are no plot details but Tom Hardy will play Eddie Brock, the character who first became Venom. Eddie Brock/Venom has been a very popular figure in the comics since his 1988 debut. Though he mainly is a villain for Spider-Man, seen in Sam Rami’s ‘Spider-Man 3‘, the character is known to also be an anti-hero. Seems like that’s the role he will place in this solo film. Fans are also hoping to see the inclusion of long-time Venom enemy, Carnage! He could be the perfect villain to kick-off these films, especially with the planned darker tone said to be used in this.
This spin-off of the ‘Spider-Man‘ franchise will serve as the start to movies based on many characters from the comics. The studio is also developing a Silver Sable/Black Cat. With the rebooted ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ coming this summer, Sony is finally starting to turn things around for the franchise. Marvel Studios isn’t connected to this film, though.
Sony also announced the film will be released on Oct. 5th, 2018.
